Long hours due to labour costs. Tip system is terrible. Almost half of the tips goes to BOH who does the bare minimum. Endless cleaning shifts before actual service (The money they’re paying staff per hour can be used towards hiring professionals instead). Ridiculous standards and expectations. For example, cannot be out of uniform in the restaurant, discreet makeup, 1 stud earring per ear. This is not an upscale, fancy establishment… We basically shout at guests when they arrive. Extremely high turnover of servers, basically hire Japanese students who are on work/holiday/student visas to work here. They spend so much time and money just to train people who end up leaving in a couple months. 

minimum wage chefs assistant position works you as much as the full-time chefs but pays less than the waiters (not a lot in tips)

Hours scheduling is very unorganized and you will get shifts last minute, often evening shifts are extremely late hours. getting a sick day is unreasonably difficult

Start the day getting briefed on how busy it will get and the current menu specials. Learned alot about Japanese service and Japanese language making you call out phrases enthusiastically. Management and staff is pretty supportive in teaching and training you for the job and the culture. The hardest part of the job is when the restaurant is fully busy and it's really chaotic. Really enjoyed my time with the staff and the culture.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Good tips. However , head office likes to rotate people on different positions. I saw people come and go in 3 months

Strict management. No mistake allowed from day 3

Typical day could be busy or not it depends

They started cutting hours after hiring a bunch of Japanese employees. All the non Japanese employees barely got any shifts and were made to do all the stuff like dishwashing, prepping, cleaning while managers be chilling at the front. Even after working here for almost a year they still treat me like i know nothing and continue to cut my hours and over work me. 

Fun work environment. Management is kind and understanding especially allows for various scheduling if you are in school and doing part time job. It could get super hectic especially on weekends, but the teamwork and collaborative environment between coworkers make up for the crazy nights. Customers are genuinely nice and appreciate your service.

Very disorganized and a lot of favouritism. Job security does not exist. Communication was a big issue whether it was a language barrier or upper management just choosing to keep everyone in the dark. 

The title of "kitchen helper" is misleading because it was essentially a line cook position in disguise.  This would be fine if there was an actual training period rather than a "throw you into a den of wolves" kind of scenario.  If you already have experience as a line cook, then I'm sure you'll be fine.

Working hours were long, management were not supportive of staff, and the tip pool was both weird and unfair. Not much positive other than having kind coworkers and working well as part of a team. All of the yelling take a toll on your voice, too

I had worked at there as part-time. They can make a shift very flexible so it you are looking for part-time job, it's really good. Also they teach you how to work at there very kindly. If you are interested Japanese food and culture, you can enjoy.
