It was honestly one of the most disheartening jobs I've ever had. If you're thinking about joining this company, I strongly urge you to take a step back and think twice.

First off, let's talk about management. It was a bit of a mess, to say the least. Communication was seriously lacking, and it often felt like we were left in the dark about expectations and goals. Important information was sporadic, causing confusion and making it hard to get things done efficiently. And here's the kicker: late payments. It happened way too often, leaving us in financial stress and wondering when our hard-earned money would finally hit our bank accounts.

The company culture was a major downer. There was a distinct lack of appreciation for hard work and dedication. We were constantly overloaded with work, given unrealistic deadlines, and constantly felt the pressure to perform. Instead of supporting us, it seemed like management enjoyed nitpicking and pointing out our mistakes.

And let's not forget about the compensation and benefits. They were seriously lacking. Salaries were below par compared to what we had to do, and there was no real opportunity for growth or advancement. Despite promises of career development and better employees benefits, they often hired from the outside instead of recognizing the talent right in front of them. It was a major blow to employee morale.

To top it all off, work-life balance was practically nonexistent. We were expected to put in long hours, even on weekends and holidays. It was tough to find any downtime, and it seriously took a toll on our well-being. No one wants to live for work alone, right?

All in all, my time at Kiokii and... Inc. was incredibly disheartening. The lack of effective management, toxic company culture, inadequate compensation, and poor work-life balance made it a downright unpleasant place to work. I strongly suggest looking elsewhere for a job that values its employees and creates a positive work environment. Kiokii and... Inc. falls far short of being a company you'd want to work for.

"Kiokii is such a good place to work" is a sentiment echoed by employees who have found a unique and fulfilling professional home in this organization. There are several key factors that contribute to Kiokii's reputation as an exceptional workplace.

The new store is currently suffering under extremely poor management and falling apart due to shockingly poor leadership. The store manager lacks even the most fundamental skills required to run a team — no communication ability, no knowledge of the products or operations, and no willingness to contribute to daily tasks. Instead of supporting the team, the manager hides in the back and watches people through security cameras. Micromanagement has replaced collaboration, and fear has replaced trust. Feedback is rarely constructive — often abrupt, unclear, and delivered in a condescending tone.

There is no sense of direction, support, or consistency. Morale has dropped significantly, and several capable workers are considering leaving or actively job hunting due to the toxic environment and unfairness in scheduling.

Scheduling is handled arbitrarily, based on favoritism instead of performance or fairness. There is zero accountability or leadership — just control for the sake of control.

Advice to Upper Management:
Start taking leadership seriously. Hire leaders who actually understand leadership. Watching people work through cameras isn’t the same as managing them. Unless serious leadership changes are made, turnover will only increase along with employee disengagement and operational decline. 


This store only looks good if you visit as a customer. Actually, I take that back. Even as a customer I don't think this store has much to offer unless you don't care about customer service at all. I applied to work here because I thought the store was very cute but that is only the outer layer. Once I started working here I have realized the mistake I have made. I have worked in other small businesses before (which this store claims to be) but none of it was as mentally taxing as this store is. Management is super horrible and they don't even care about you unless you look a certain way or stuck up to them. Who even wants to work in an environment like this? Furthermore, the pay is very questionable. I have never heard of any business paying their employee one week after the month has started. Do they think people that work there are there to just have fun? Are they that ignorant to understand that paying people on time is important? Not only that, if they miscalculate your pay they expect you to wait another month to get your hard earned deserved money. I am honestly surprised nobody has reported them before for this kind of mistreatment. I saw people leaving good reviews and I am seriously wondering if they have Stockholm Syndrome or they were paid to write those since they look more like a commercial essays on how good the company is more than their own opinion.

I was honestly so excited to work at Kiokii because I love skincare and thought it would be a great place to learn and grow. But after starting, I was really let down.

Top management didn’t seem to know how to manage at all — they came across as really inexperienced and unorganized. There was barely any proper training, and a lot of the time we had to figure things out ourselves. Luckily, some of the other staff and managers were kind and helpful, but it still felt like we were being set up to struggle.

Even when we weren’t fully trained, we were still expected to help customers right away. It was stressful being told to just focus on customers when we didn’t have enough knowledge yet. And on top of that, it always felt like we were being watched and judged constantly, which made the work environment even more uncomfortable.

It honestly felt like the company cared more about how the store looked to customers than actually making sure the staff knew what they were doing. The whole experience was exhausting and disappointing. I thought this would be a fun and positive job, but it just left me feeling anxious and drained.

After working for a while, It became really tiring and stressful. I thought I’d enjoy working here, but it just made me feel anxious and disappointed.

Hard work, long hours, high turn over rate, little support from management. No pay raises. New manager came in two months ago, there are announcements on what they expect, instead you will hear what they say about you behind your back from other people. Most managers will be leak your personal problems to other employees. 

They also have been cutting all store hours since the beginning of summer so instead of 12-15 people working on the weekend they cut it down to 6-8 people. 
Meaning there are essentially 
2 managements (opener and closer)
2-3 stock people 
1 sales opener
1-2 mid shift sales
3 people closing (management one stock and one sales)
They want us to help more customers and reduce loss prevention but there aren't even enough of us on the floor to watch every area lol. 

If you want to work I would highly suggest you apply to be stock instead of sales
a regular sales associate has wayyyy more things to worry about than stock. 

Oh and! if youre sales dont be too good at cash or you will only be put on cash for all your shifts!
 I signed up to sell skincare not to be a cashier!

Note to management:
Make all expectations clear
- sick day policy
- attendance expectations
- roles descriptions 
etc


My experience at this company was extremely disappointing. The management is unprofessional, disorganized, and focused solely on their own interests. There’s a clear lack of diversity in the workforce, as the company seems to prioritize hiring from a specific group, which created an exclusionary and toxic environment. Non-Chinese employees were often mistreated and overlooked.
The leadership had no understanding of proper management or employee development. They were only interested in results, and once they got what they wanted from you, they discarded you without hesitation, often replacing you with someone from their own circle, regardless of qualifications.
The newly hired accounting manager was a prime example of this failure—completely unqualified and unable to manage basic financial tasks. The overall management structure is weak, and the company lacks any long-term vision for its staff. It’s clear they’re more focused on exploiting workers than on creating a healthy work culture or providing fair opportunities.
I would strongly advise anyone to stay away from this company. The toxic atmosphere and lack of leadership make it a poor choice for anyone looking for a respectful, inclusive, and professional work environment.

Working at this company was one of the worst experiences I’ve had. Management has zero respect for work-life balance—they expect you to be available 24/7, even on your days off, for minimum wage.

Payroll is a disaster. They frequently issue incorrect payslips, and the company only pays monthly, which is highly unusual for retail. Promised bonuses and benefits? Don’t count on them—you’ll never actually receive what they claim to offer.

There is no proper sales training. You’re left to figure everything out on your own. The entire management structure is a mess, and they use a poorly designed system that constantly causes issues at checkout. Barcodes don’t scan properly, inventory is inaccurate, and not all employees can read Chinese, yet they rely on a system that isn’t user-friendly for everyone.

Additionally, favoritism is a major issue. Certain employees receive preferential treatment based on race, while others are micromanaged and even spied on. The workplace culture is toxic, disorganized, and completely unprofessional.

If I could give zero stars, I would. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere—this job is not worth your time or effort. RUN!

I would not recommend working at this company due to several concerning aspects. Firstly, there is a consistent expectation of working overtime without receiving appropriate compensation for the extra hours. Additionally, the management team lacks professionalism, which negatively impacts the work environment. Another issue is the absence of a formal contract, leading to uncertainty and potential difficulties for employees.

Communication within the company is poor, causing misunderstandings and hindering productivity. Furthermore, rather than taking responsibility for their own failures, the management team tends to unfairly blame employees, creating a toxic atmosphere. Lastly, employees are often forced to undertake tasks that fall outside their designated responsibilities.

Considering these factors, it is advisable to seek employment elsewhere, as this workplace and its management team do not foster a positive and supportive environment.

I'd say it's a pretty standard customer service position. It's tiring given how busy it can get, I'd really only recommend it over other places if you have a preference for selling makeup/skincare. Do note that the company is growing, which means there is room for advancements, it's just something you have to take initiative for.

Holiday season and kiokii's anniversary are considered blackout periods, so if you're someone who would want to have time off during the holidays, maybe work somewhere else.

Workplace culture will obviously change with different staff and management. For the location I worked at, I find sales associates will at least try to be cordial with each other face to face. However, everyone seems really avoidant about actually confronting their issues with other people. Letting it simmer beneath the surface until they can't take it anymore and go straight to the managers with it instead trying to resolve the issue with each other first even when its just a misunderstanding.
