Working at Knights Table was a meaningful and eye-opening experience. A typical day involved preparing and serving meals, organizing donations, and assisting clients with various needs. I was with the organization for years, and I left every day of work with a headache. They barely let you take lunches, they expect you to stay 1-3 hours after your shift unpaid. They blame this on the hustle and bustle of non-profit... DONT BE FOOLED. There are plenty of non-profit organizations that value their employees, Knights Table is not one of them. There is no organization whatsoever, the CEO and Operations Manager (two highest levels) are nice to your face and different behind closed doors. You'll be expected to clean dirty, drugged-up washrooms and mop floors even if you have an office. Your leaders will frown upon you building positive rapport with the clients, and any smiling or laughter is seen as unprofessional. There is a reason why four of the main employees (there are only eight) walked out within one year. This is my ONLY negative workplace review, I try to find the positivity everywhere I go, but Knight's Table is only negative. Trust me, you can do better. 

A lot of work required along with some heavy lifting, but overall great work experience for volunteer. I was trained to work back of food bank, which involved stocking items, and organizing food into particular bins for families. The management was lenient, but strict job positions. They have a great team of workers there. Everyone gets along and does their specific jobs to help make for a better proficiency. The hardest part was dealing with some of the customers. Knights Table provides food for underprivileged families, and part of them were a little... weird. having to deal with drug and alcohol abuse, or mental insecurities was a big bump in the road. However, I really liked the Kids Zone* program. This was a relaxing part to the week. Parents and Kids were busy with each other, making the work pace slow down greatly and we were all able to take our time getting every order correct, or finish up cleaning and restocking items.

A typical day at Knights Table is fulfilling, by just helping people to receive a hot plate of food and giving items to take out is very rewarding.  I learned that many people are not as lucky and are less fortunate than most.   A lot of people are homeless and hungry so a place like knights table giving them a hearty meal is very rewarding to a hungry stomach and very rewarding to the people who are providing it. 

Everyone is humble and willing to unite to achieve a common goal.   The hardest part of the job is realizing that many people i our communities are less fortunate to even have a plate of food to eat.  The most enjoyable part is to provide the food for them and to see how happy they can be to have a meal.

Knights Table was a well rounded practicum experience. I was able to get hands on experience working with clients doing admin and intake coordinator, working in the food bank and employment office. I was also able to work in outreach and the children program called family zone. 

During my practicum I was able to development my professional skills as an Social Service Worker student, and also my confidence.My experiences there are both good and bad pushed me to be a better individual and future worker.

Very efficient. Customers would come to the window when they walk in, the receptionist would sign in their name and they would give a donation (optional). Then, they would continue through the next door and can get food. Once the customers leave, they have to pay $1.00 to come back in. The people that work there are very nice and helpful. The most enjoyable part for me was actually taking phone calls, because I was the receptionist.

Volunteering at the homeless shelter, was a blessing.
Seeing how people strive to live, find food to eat and how hard they try to have shelter for themselves at the end of the night was very touching.
