Kootenay Co-op

My role at the Kootenay Coop in Nelson was to oversee the colleagues, activities and equipment of the Customer Service and Checkout Department.  I was responsible for scheduling, training, regular meetings and ongoing feedback for 28 colleagues.  I also worked closely with the Managers and Assistant Managers of the five other departments in the Co-Op to ensure a cohesive workplace and customer satisfaction.  I adored the people I worked with, both colleague and customer alike.  I was proud to be part of such a forward-thinking and environmentally responsible organization.  I learned that every single person I came in contact with in a day had the power to change my world for better or worse, and that change was all in the way I approached that person.  We had wonderful employee benefits and lots of fun working with each other and every person who walked through the door.  I wish there was an agency such as this in every town in Canada.

I never thought I would last working as a grocery clerk because it is really far from my background but working here give me a lot of opportunity to see what's beyond the industry that I've worked on and the main reason why I stayed working here is the job culture, everyone seems really friendly and almost everyone have positive outlook in life.

People there are chill, and you can get leftover items for free. Occasionally there will be nice customers, and I loved that. Hard part is that I constantly felt like managers really did not care much about entry-level employees. They will talk to you kindly, and that's about it.

 I left my job here due to some health issues. It was so hard to leave, but necessary at the time. If ever a position came up that would work for me again, this is where I would like to be. Always welcoming, always community minded, a place you want to be. Walk through the doors and you feel the sense of community. That’s why I went to work here.

Constantly amazed at how hard working and committed everyone is here. Managers care about their staff who care about their customers who care enough to become co-op members. It's a virtuous loop of goodness.

Fun environment with great people to work with. Many opportunities to grow in the way you want to. They provide great training programs to help ensure you have knowledge in many departments and receive other training such as first aid.

This company is going through some growing pains and it shows. The general manager is very stressed and dealing with him is challenging for many of the staff. I would not recommend working beyond the clerk level here

Such an amazing, community oriented workplace. I love their commitment to environment, community, and ethical treatment of employees. Good benefits and lots of pros.

I wouldn’t recommend to anyone to work there. Despite my clean work history and ethic, due to my tattoos and appearance I was fired as I wasn’t the right “fit”
