Instrumentation, working conscientiously through many different roles in our industry. Planning with purpose has been my goal. It is with significant and gratification that I have been honored with the opportunity to mentor electrical apprentices and journeymen through the challenging processes of work procedures, quality installation practices, and safety-first practices within our industry.  As a core value, I firmly believe that one must focus on achieving performance goals, building mutually beneficial relationships in a team environment, while promoting a culture of success which maintains safety. given opportunity to supervise crews, build turnover packages, build QC documentation and calibration records, worked with good supervisor to build a division within the company that made them money, got experience pricing work, scheduling, purchasing equipment and materials for projects, given freedom to develop proposals for ways to build the company and increase work capacity into new areas. unfortunately Management went through changes and many ideas were discarded or ignored and shortly thereafter other companies came into the area with the same or similar idea and took that opportunity away from Laird.

They had to make hard choices during the oil crash, so I don't blame anyone. Early on, I was working through the Fort McMurray location, and during the migration, it was long hours. There were many times I would have to travel to the Oil Sand sites, which involved a lot of planning. I would have to get a truck in advance, get HSE and security approvals. The whole process would take an hour just to get into site. Later on, I was moved to the HQ in Edmonton. This was a completely different environment. It was a bit laid back, good co-workers, friendly people. There was a lot more of workplace culture involved. I enjoyed the change from work site office to business environment.

Job plans changed causing delays. Equipment, tools and materials were not readily available near work location, and was locked up with limited access (Costs time and money). Workers were hard working and froze their butts off trying to meet deadlines (Warmed up when ever they wanted to, no questions asked). Great guys. People above me at the time were trying to solve various problems all at once due to previous upper management issues. Good company for the most part.

Just another company. The enviroment was dirty and chemically toxic.  There was a sense of "losing ur job" at any minute all the time there.  The hours available to work did not compensate the cost of having to fly out there to work let alone the emotional strain of having to work away from home.  Just depressing and sad.  I feel the life of being a journeyman tradesman is pretty depressing.

The days were pretty straight forward, structured and well organized.
I learned the value of being organized and teamwork.
The management was pretty decent for the most part. Lots of encouragement and support. 
My co workers generally had good work ethic and were easy to get along with.
The hardest part of the job was new people with language barriers. e 
Growing in the company and embracing the new knowledge gained.

Working on a job site is totally different than any other job. Very challenging and rewarding with constant changes. Always learning new tasks and skills. But i usually worked turnarounds which required you to hit the road running and work long hours and long schedules. I loved the fast pace and the experience

Employed by Garda on loan to Syncrude. The Syncrude corporate security was exciting and very challenging work. Management was great. Garda on the other hand did not support their employees in any manner. Raises, benefits etc., were never part of their plan. Besides the site manager, I never met any management from town

The people i worked with were great, but the management seemed to be behind for the whole job with information.  We would Terminate Cables and then we would get information that these cables go to different terminal blocks so on and so fourth
