LAKE SCUGOG LUMBER

I worked at LS Lumber for 5 months before I had to head off to university, but it genuinely such a good time. You’re constantly active, and depending on your job you guy to work and chat with other people. It’s a very go-go-go environment, but as the shifts are long it was nice to get it over and done with. There is always the opportunity to work more (overtime) if you so choose, and they are quite generous when it comes to taking time off. 

This job is not for the weak/unmotivated, but it is definitely lots of fun. If you can work quick and pay good attention to detail, this is the place to be. 

The truss plant management (where I worked) was very nice and genuinely felt like family. They are easy to talk to as long you don’t lie and are straight up about what’s going on.

I have never worked in a place where your superiors don’t care about you, they treat you like a dog here and even if you ever go above and beyond for these people they’ll only tell you what you did wrong and never show appreciation for your work.
They tell you that if you work hard enough and get enough lists done you will get a $500 bonus at the end of the month but what the supervisors do is pic favourites and give the easy lists to people that don’t even need the bonus making everyone els struggle and go as fast as possible to try and get the bonus too but that’ll never happen because of the way they do things around here. If I could give zero stars I would…

Lake scugog lumber has had rough years in the past, and yes the wages could be better. But let's be honest there is always room for improvement no matter where you work and no one ever complains about making "to much" money.  This company has great full time hours available for most months of the year with Saturday shifts always available but not mandatory!  They are always happy to work around busy sechdules that may include things Such as school, children, appointments etc. Overall this company is happy to give anyone a chance with the minimal requirements of just showing up on time for your schedule shift.

Wasn’t the best experience that’s for sure. No job security constant lay offs, worked very hard for little pay, if you stand up for your employee rights they will make sure you do not work another day. Very unsafe and dirty work environment, constant injuries. The employees who have been there forever feel like they can treat you however they want because they won’t get fired and it’s true. You are just a number at the end of the day. Constantly hiring because so many people get frustrated and quit. Do not go here, it’s toxic.

This job is the most enjoyable job I’ve ever had. Management is easy to talk to, kind and understanding. All they ask is that their employees show up prepared and that they don’t mess around. If you’re a good worker your efforts don’t go unnoticed! They didn’t skimp out on raises or bonuses and I could always get more hours when I asked.
This job could feel physically demanding at times (handling lots of lumber) but it helped to keep me in shape. I also had very nice coworkers. Plus driving a forklift is pretty fun!

Build trusses. Catch wood off the saws.
I usually build, but on ocasion i catch the pieces off the big saws for the big trusses. I have also helped catch off the ALS wich is short for Alpine Linear Saw, it cuts the smaller wood for the smaller trusses in the mini At LSL(Lake Scugog Lumber). I usually build in the big shop , we can build any truss as long as its not longer than a 100 feet.

The pay is not good. The people are even worse. The work is okay depending where you are but still not worth it. Don’t listen to them when they say there is room for advancement, because there is not. Avoid the boss at all cost, he will blame you for his poor decisions and will get very angry with you and even call you names. Having put up with this for so many years, I owe it to them to steer anyone else clear of here. 

Lots of people go through here and leave soon after because of the hard work and the people are not very nice to work with and the pay is as low as it can be because they are so cheap and do not want to pay their workers. A very grumpy boss who makes poor decisions and then blames his workers for slow production. I left here and if I can stop anyone from working here, I will.

I did not enjoy this place. Management is poor, the boss is very shady and just angry, takes advantage of his employees. Co-workers are just grumpy and ignorant impatient people, and the work can be quite back breaking at times. Always being pushed to do more. Just find another job and save yourself the stress of working here.

The company puts a lot of trust into their employees allowing them to handle expensive product while driving an expensive machine.
Very good at training their employees until they feel confident to handle orders on their own.
