What is the best part of working at the company?
The best part of working at LHSC is the continuous education. It’s incredible to work at an organization that encourages you to keep learning and where you are provided with opportunity to mentor others to continue to learn

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Like any healthcare setting, it is stressful being short staffed and burning out. Unfortunately a common issue sonce pandemic 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Fast paced and energized. The culture is shifting as we emerge from the pandemic chaos. I feel ‘Team’ is become the priority again. Their is a lot of work to help with employee wellness 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Busy, with a lot of virtual meetings can be hard to connect with team. Thankfully there’s an ability to attend in person meetings now where I find connections more meaningful

What is the best part of working at the company?
Department manager created a toxic work environment through poor management decisions, indecision and favouritism.    It is impossible to staff properly when too many staff are given time off and the manager has not hired anyone.
Manager created a toxic environment between clerks.   

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Having poor management and unrealistic expectations.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very catty.   It feels like high school.   People going behind others back.  I would say no to a vacation day given the staffing levels.  Management would approve the day and getting mad at me when we did not have the staff to meet the levels needed. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Hours were decent (8-4).  But management did not respect breaks.

The London Health Science Centre is a lead innovator for medical advancements and is a staple for career growth in the medical field. I worked as a staff member at Sodexo Canada and I worked on the midnight shift on weekends, while maintaining my studies at King's University College as a first-year student studying Political Science. Management was very accommodating in several aspects of the workplace including hours, scheduling, and suitable environments. This was very important to me since I was a student and needed a dependable job for some financial support and hours that worked for me. Safety was a number one concern for this company, especially since they are operating in a large hospital.

On the bad side of the job as research staff (assistants, coordinators), first is the fact that your work load will depend on your PI. I’ve seen many relaxed research assistants, others barely surviving the stress. Second, there is no room to grow as research staff. You may jumó to work with another team but will stay in your position until you leave.  Pay as research assistant is one of the lowest, coordinator is higher but still not quite living wage (if you need to be the sole provider of your household). Good side: once you know the ropes is easier, people are usually nice (but be ready to be invisible for investigarors and looked down by medical staff). Nice perks like gym in site for employees. 

Unfortunately there is a great deal of verbal abuse & bullying in this environment.  Which leads to very poor job satisfaction & self esteem. There has been an increase in positions for RPN's but with this change comes resentment from other staff members. Hopefully some day everyone will realize the goal is to provide good patient care in a respectable & professional environment. Everyone has their role to play at LHSC. Work together  & respect  each role for a healthy, happy work environment.

A lot of bullying. 
You’re unheard by management. 
Your quality of life in an assistant will be a direct result who you were working with. I’ve had wonderful experiences with people who are above me who treat me as a teammate but I’ve had terrible experiences where the person above me treated me very poorly  and regarded my job/ role as unimportant. Assistant roles within LHSC are disregarded and ignored and there is far more bullying and harassment than there should be. 

Great team-orientated work environment, geared towards patient care, cleanliness, and organization. A pleasure to work for. Most co-workers were very enjoyable to work with. A typical day could be challenging, as patient status changes frequently. This was both a pro and a con to working at LHSC, however the challenge keeps each day very interesting.

To many hands making decisions that don’t know the job. Management and worker divided. Management gets in the way wastes money cause they don’t know what’s going on in the front lines. Way too much money spent on paying management salaries that end up costing the corporation more money. The pay is not covering the cost of living. 

Preceptors are not supportive. They expect you to know everything from day 1. One may think shy they precept you. Some of the staff are not polite or cooperative at all. They do not accept you as a new staff as if the property is theirs. Poor management is obvious. They do not come to observe how preceptors treat the new staff. I would never ever recommend seeking employment with LHSC. 

It was a good place to work obviously its very faced paced and can be stressful but my management was great others may have a different experience. Only thing is if your part time your schedule sucks and you dont get benefits you may also end up being part time working full time hours. overall a good place to work with great people and good pay
