LIONS GATE HOSPITAL

Lion's Gate Hospital is like a small community, and each department often overlaps or provides for work and personal interaction. Hospital much like a TEAM overall. Hiring practices are fair and ask appropriate questions for the position. 

Was very proud of the fundraising created by and with volunteers to assist with funding such as additional equipment, but I was most impressed by the new Psychiatric building (which is now open) and the Mental Health Awareness. Patients First was the slogan and we all worked hard to ensure that motto was actually an activity and not just words. 

OR booking team worked very hard. The team was approximately five staff, each with different OR specialties. The job was high paperwork and high demand, and often things changed in a second. We were responsible for ensuring patient medical history, eg. diabetic was included in the form and the EMR. Also, we had to ensure ALL the right specific physician requests for equipment were entered ACCURATELY. We understood although paperwork, peoples lives and quality of lives was directly related to doing our position with due diligence and full accuracy, lest an operation could be compromised. 

Essentially, everyone took pride in working hard. The nurses in the OR and the doctors were all professional. My husband attended as a patient on several occasions, and it was reassuring to me to know that Lion's Gate would provide him with excellent care and they did.

I left my position as commuting took 1 1/2 hrs per day back to South East Vancouver and I was offered a full time that was attractive.

I learned a great deal about the world of pharmacy, and how to mix chemotherapy drugs and IV drugs.  Plus, I learned how to use a few different computer systems.  Also, how to interact with other health professionals.  The culture was very friendly and professional.  We always had lots of laughs and good camaraderie.
I really enjoyed the people that I worked with, and also mixing IV's and chemotherapy drugs.  The hardest part of the job was the shift work; having to work evenings and weekends. 

Lion's gate Hospital is a very small Hospital with about 600 beds. Due to it's small nature it is very easy to adapt to the work Environment. It is very multicultural.
A typical day starts at 7 am in the morning and is a 12 hour shift,The night nurses hand over to the incoming nurses, then patients are assigned to the nurses and by 7:30 the nurses start by checking patient`s vitals and continue with the regular nursing assignments and routine until 7 pm. Then they give their reports to the night shift.
Management is supportive and the collegues are also very supportive.
I loved the Job because i learned alot of skills in the orthopedic field.

The work itself was enjoyable. Intensive care requires good communication between doctors and nurses to provide care for clients who are quite ill with sepsis, overdose,post surgical complications,respiratory and cardiac compromised states. 

The most difficult aspects are the changing hospital culture towards corporate style medicine which is motivated more by number crunching and the budget. More management, the lean team and less nursing care.

typical day at work is transcribing on to charts, kardex and Mars,  processing physicians orders. Making changes and updates to patients daily care. Processing Lab's paper work, calling for Tests. Processing Drug orders.

Hardest part about the job was to see patients in pain and distress.
Most enjoyable part of the job was to know that you are helping to make patients get better and making a difference in their lives.

Socialized medicine experience as this hospital was in North Vancouver, BC Canada. Floated to different floors (see resume) Very busy as well, but excellent team work. Mgt very supportive of their nurses.

A very good environment for the worker that enjoys fast paced problem solving. I learned how to think quickly on my feet  to assist the managers and nurses during stressful times. The most enjoyable part of the job was the job itself. It was rewarding to assist people in need.

low salary ,lot of works, heavy stress, Physical injury...I do not feel calm at all
  I am constantly humiliated by my manager
And I always feel worried

I have a good experience as a graduate nurse. The environment is super busy but it has its benefits, for example, you practice a variety of skills and advance your critical thinking in various health conditions

Generally speaking,it was great.I liked to work with staffs,help patients, learn from them and enjoy from the events.I highly recommend everybody to try to experience this workplace.
