For the most, you do get what you put in.  This is one of the few places where you do get rewarded for going above and beyond the scope of your contract.  I was told that management does keep an eye out on those who puts in the extra effort.  So far, I have seen that.  In my particular area, the property managers that we manage the gym for, can make the job a great experience or a bad one.

For my day-to-day routine, I mostly maintain the facility and liaison between the property managers and the people from LIVunLtd to service the fitness equipment.  I also interact with the tenants of the building when they are in the fitness facility, mostly to make their experience in the fitness centre enjoyable.  I create programs and activities for tenants to participate in, to help enhance the gym experience.  Teaching classes and conducting personal training are the other tasks that I perform.

Since I've started working for LIVunLtd, I've had tech issues with my work laptop twice, and the company ultimately just replaced the laptop.  The people working the sales and service side of things are mostly easy to communicate to.  As for the fitness management side of things, I've been supported well by management, from business merging and change in company name & logo, shuffle in personnel, and changes in policy and procedures.

Generally speaking, I work in a region with a small team.  Our team comprise of four locations relatively close to each other.  At times, we may be a bit isolated from the rest of the company.  But, our small team frequently communicates with each other for ideas and support.  I've not ever felt like management ever needs to step in to micromanage.  We are mostly left to do what we are hired to do, and we aren't restricted for the most.

Spending the past 2 years working with HSG has been a very rewarding experience. I am often encouraged to grow my role and am always supported and directed by my supervisors. 

When I first started with the company it was for an entirely different position. I was at a cross roads in my life and I truly wasn't sure if this would just be another destination along my career path. After two great years and several role promotions I am happy to say that I feel as if HSG is home and a company that I can continue to grow with in this industry. 

The job does come with many challenges and obstacles, but the best take away from each day, week, month is always the fact that I get a blank white canvas and can truly add my own unique taste to the job at hand. I feel very l fortunate to be in this position and surrounded by great people who want to see my succeed and improve each day!

I have been with HSG for about 2 years and have really enjoyed my experience so far! Having been employed at various locations, HSG's service standards and pillars have remained consistent as all staff are committed to providing quality service. I have worked for HSG for 20 years - starting as a group fitness instructor and moving into management.  My experience has been rich with opportunity for advancement and professional growth.  We are a group of people who care deeply for each other and support each other in striving to live with work/life balance.  We treat each other fairly and do our best to allow individual strengths to flourish and shine.  We are a performance based company and provide ongoing performance coaching and guidance.

Originally I was hired for another company but when Health Systems Group won the contract renewal they decided to keep me on as part of the staff for the facility. I was the only part time employee that was kept on staff and I would have continued to work there if I had not moved to Thunder Bay. Getting people at the workplace to come down to the gym and workout either before work, during lunch or after work was very rewarding and many people saw great success while saving themselves time in traffic by not leaving during rush hour or by coming on thier lunch.

Entry level work is low pay but there is opportunity to earn extra income through teaching group fitness classes and personal training.
Management pay is fair but again there is opportunity to increase income depending on one's own ambition.
Unlike most commercial fitness clubs, work prioritizes service first over sales, though sales is still vital for overall success.
The company culture is relaxed and stress generally low but if there is stress, it is usually attributed to administrative duties.

HSG's focus on Customer Service means your salary is based on the relationships you build with the members. I appreciate this approach instead of being on a fee-based service that requires you become a pushy salesperson in order to make a living. It makes it a much more relaxing and enjoyable work environment.
