Day to day this was a basic warehouse job. As a warehouse worker you come in and are assigned a task or series of tasks from your supervisor... Could be order picking, could be unloading a container, building skids, staging etc. Pretty standard stuff.Full time delivery drivers had a set area of the city that they covered everyday which was nice because it gives the opportunity to get very familiar with a route and the customers. Eventually, they combined the roles of warehouse and driving staff and made it so everyone hired has to have a license and must be willing to do deliveries, but didn't offer any extra pay or bonus after raising the required starting qualifications for the job... On top of that you'd be thrown onto a new route constantly that you might not be familiar with and didn't know the customers shops. While the full-time drivers were allowed to do a route over and over to become familiar, you'd be left to meets the same standards but with little chance to get comfortable and learn. You'd do your best but still get told you took too long or it should be done faster. Then the next time you are asked to drive you try to rush and that leads to mistakes... Which you are then told that you're screwing up too much or simply pulled aside and written up. Direct supervisors seemed to understand more when things didn't go as planned and tried to listen and work with you. Too bad that effort seemed to get overshadowed by the operations manager who would sit in his office all day, only appearing to walk around just to make staff feel uncomfortable (imagine trying to work and having someone in management just stand around starring at you, not saying a word) and to insist the direct supervisors write staff up for small shortcomings or mistakes. Overall I think it starts out as a good job until you begin to understand the culture... which is toxic at best and downright abusive at worst. It has the potential to be an awesome place to work because co-workers are very friendly, the warehouse is extremely clean, and the work is easy enough. It really is sad this potential is wasted by clueless management who have about as much personality and people skills as a rock. Poor leadership combined with high expectations for very average pay...Also speaking of pay, don't ever expect any type of wage increase... They tell you after your probation period you'll get a dollar raise but I didn't see one and nobody else I talked to ever did either. You get paid slightly above minimum wage with no room for advancement. They'll pile more and more on your plate and won't blink an eye. If you're lucky, you might see a small raise of 20 cents an hour or even less after a year from what I've heard from longer term staff, and management will buy a big bag of candy for everyone to SHARE (lol)... I would recommend this job if you have a warehouse background and a drivers license and are desperate (key word). Keep your head down and watch what you say. And try to line something more worth while up ASAP. This place can be soul crushing if you let yourself get comfortable because its never long before all the negative stuff starts to pile up and you dread coming in everyday. The drama and downright terrible management, combined with low pay and basically zero room for advancement make this place NOT WORTH IT long term.

typical day is regular warehouse duties like order picking, staging,  forklift duties, unloading and loading containers, basic house-keeping. I learned alot in my 1yr here. the management team is very accommodating and welcoming. workplace culture is positive in-spite of the fact that all staff are over-worked and are spread too thin. only 1 person does a job for a 3-person job (yeah its that bad) no wonder the turnover rate is very high, people quit within the 90-day probationary period. and if you overcome this scenario, they will keep adding to your job responsibilities up until you become overwhelmed and stressed. Moreover, there is no fair monetary compensation for your hard work, as the corporate leadership makes it very complicated to earn a raise. people who have been in the company for 5+ years have nothing to show for it other than the wrinkles on their forehead. However, this company has the most honest and hard-working people I have even seen in the world. and that was the only reason why I stayed for as long as I could in this company. 

The best part about LKQ is that the workday goes by extremely quickly. There is never a shortage of work that needs to be done and problems that need to be attended to. If you show initiative and take on extra work, that unofficially becomes your duty ongoing. Management is swamped constantly but still somehow finds a way to take time off when they are needed most, leaving the warehouse at a decisional standstill many times in the week. The benefits package they offer is overpriced and in my opinion, the subsidized services do not provide value unless you have a family to take care of. As for organizational culture, it is the standard automotive industy- where communication barriers are always present and timely results rarely happen. This is a god job for people who just want to punch in and out on a daily basis without caring for the growth of the company they work for.

* A typical work day - come in, sign in, start sorting, verifying and loading of parts to be delivered onto trucks, begin deliveries, finish routes, return to depot, finalize paperwork, leave. Pretty straightforward day. 
*What I believe I learnt - How not to do certain things relating to transporting of heavy items such as engines, transmissions, differentials etc. 
*Management - not progressive, very poor decision making, stuck in the dark ages. 
*Workplace Culture - not progressive, very apprehensive to change. 
*Hardest part of job - loading of trucks in the morning
*Most enjoyable part of the day - just having the security that the Manager is a really gem of a person and he has your back is a wonderful feeling. 


The work is stressful with no real opportunity for advancement unless you're selectively favored. Management lacks basic leadership and communication skills—some don’t understand the work itself, others only care about stats, not people. Feedback is ignored. You’re made to feel heard, but nothing is ever done. Ideas can be proposed—never acknowledged, never followed up. Meetings are supposed to happen biweekly or monthly; they don’t. We’re told we're fully staffed, but clearly, we’re overworked and understaffed. It’s a toxic environment where suggestions are dismissed, and the priority is squeezing as much as possible out of each employee without support or recognition. Avoid if you value growth, respect, or mental health.

My days at working for LKQ Shaw, were great, it was a great place to work employees were absolutely amazing to work with, everyone was there to help each other out, if you need something done. A typical day at work for me would be getting paper work in order and to start loading the truck of parts for delivery, learning something there was pretty much everyday, there's always room for improving yourself and your skills. Management was OK, and by OK I mean, we went threw managers like a box of your favorite donuts. Hardest part of the job for me was the long hours and being away from my wife and kids. the most enjoyable part of my that job was actually being away from the shop, tends to be real stressful sometimes.

I enjoyed the work, interacting with the regular customers, and the work life balance,  they chose to let me go with zero explanation (I asked several times) my work performance was excellent, the supervisor would frequently blame me for mistakes in an aggressive manner that turned out to either be somebody else’s fault or not exist at all, he had zero control of his temper. If you want a job where they use disrespect and don’t care if they are right or wrong then this is the place 

Some of the longer longevity staff seem to make the place a lot more pleasant to work in while the Operation's team comprised of the operation manager and branch manager seem clueless about making their staff feel respected. There is no real incentives for increasing performance and the turn over is high.
The motto of the operation's team seems to be "my way or the hiway" with little or no room for input from the regular staff or at least no implementation of suggestions being put in place. 

Immediate supervisors are caring individuals.

Great group of people. Good salary. However, you are just a number. To many boss'. I got pulled multiple directions and would get introuble. Hard to advance in the company. I asked for assistance with building my portfolio to move up in the company, never recieved a response. Later that year I was told I was not making an ambitious enough to move up. Some management are great, others are not qualified to be in the position they are in. Great disappointment for working with LKQ. I was extremely excited to finally get the opertunity to work with them. However, by the end of my employment I could care less.

The manager here is a scum bag. If your ok about getting screwed over and a high turnover of staff because of the awful management than this is the job for you, otherwise I would suggest to look elsewhere. I only lasted 4 days because my job was given to someone else. When I got called into the managers office he just hid behind his computer quietly while he got my supervisor to tell me I wasn't the right fit for the part. I wasn't even given a chance or an explanation and I had already put in my notice for my other job. so in 4 days I became unemployed and I wasn't given any time to look for another job.
