A typical day at TBC/Loyalist College involves preparing for lectures, setting up quizzes, assigning group assignments to large classes, responding to emails, and teaching each class for three hours. There is a lot of room for learning, not only from your own preparation but also from students who have worked for years overseas in different countries. The management is supportive and respectful, which adds to a positive work environment. 

The most challenging part of teaching is at the beginning of a new semester when students are not yet accustomed to being quiet while the teacher is speaking or while student groups are presenting. In such situations, the teacher needs to be strict and authoritarian to maintain discipline in a large class.

What is the best part of working at the company?
This is an incredibly rewarding place to work. The faculty are amazing and, for the most part, incredibly helpful and kind-hearted people who care deeply about what they do. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Administration are not always entirely straightforward and there can be a lot of politics. Pros outweigh the cons, though. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It can be very supportive and encouraging. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
There really aren't any "typical" days as faculty... but teaching, marking, and responding to students is commonplace.

While I enjoyed my time as technician at Loyalist it was my understanding that I would be taught new methods to solve problems and complete my work in a neat and orderly fashion. However most times I would have a problem thrown at me without instruction and then be told I had messed up royally which would be fine if I had not made it clear I had never worked with the material before. Complete distrust from management and being constantly chastised for asking questions led to me leaving the job prematurely.

I have been facilitating online course for the food worker certificate for 7 years.  There has been a few staff changes but they are excellent at notifying who has taken on each role applicable to my support team.  Every staff member I have had interaction with has been helpful and friendly with excellent communication.  As I am not working AT the school, I cannot comment specifically, however my time with Loyalist has been profitable and worthwhile.  As I work from home, the job/life balance is excellent.  Job security and advancement is based on enrolment which cannot be controlled.

Some Deans are oppressive bullies, and do not care for the  wellbeing of their staff and students. Regardless of the push made for a better work/life balance, more work is dumped on staff and hours keep being taken away. By the end of each semester, my stress levels are through the roof. The sad thing is, I'm not the only one that feels this way. 
Although some areas seem to function well, others do not. Management needs to deal with some of your Deans. Regardless of how many wellbeing sessions you do, if you allow toxic Deans to remain, Loyalist will still be a toxic environment.

Being undermined by a manager who was not qualified for his position 
Then he gets promoted

Typical day at work was to calibrate the instrumentation, process samples as requested by manager, report data to manager.

Learning experience was due to physically using the instrumentation to process samples.

Management is great. Absolutely nothing negative to say.

Hardest part of the job was peeling shrimp... 50kg of shrimp.

Best part was the educational experience and learning new processes.

I agree with another contributor. The Dean and management don't care about their staff at all.

Working for Loyalist was the most toxic work experience, ever! 
Major management & co-coordinators changes required - yesterday!

I'm technically in a working place, but it is more of a learning place more as I am in college for Culinary Management. Every Thursday and Friday the "Resto 213" is open at Loyalist College, which is a restaurant that the Culinary program runs. this is where us (the students) learn how to work in a restaurant both severing and cooking. 

 The chefs that work at the college to teach are very understanding, and are willing to show us how they want things done. They also give us excellent feed back and advice

I learned different ways to help build programming for students that lived on residence. The most enjoyable part of the job was to communicate with students and help make their experience at Loyalist College a positive one. The hardest part of the job was finding programs that everyone would would like to participate in. In the age of technology, I found that events where you could get the students to communicate and off of their phones were the most successful events!
