The mill in Dawson Creek has, for a few years now, been making Siding for the home building market. Much of the management is new to the mill, but well experienced in the industry. When I was interviewed the team was professional, clear about the challenges they faced and what skills and experience they were looking for, and forward-looking. This mill has been a fixture in the community for a long time, and depending on who you ask opinions are mixed. I think this is because it's hard to see the potential in the place for those used to how it has been. I joined the team this year (2022) and I've been impressed with my co-workers, pleased to see the corporate side has a vision and the gumption to take strategic risks, and that the product made here has a bright future. All these things make the Dawson Creek LP team worthy of my review. 

What can I say first…
Pros:
- good pay
- care about their employees
- safety orientated
- opportunities to move up
- union, so you can’t be fired without warning
- employee benefits (dental, cheap massages, chiropractor etc.)
- pretty lax on breaks unless you’re on the green end
Cons
- mind numbing work —> very repetitive and boring
- can feel like forever before you are trained on something new (maybe I just sucked) but also there’s always a short staff in the winter so it’s hard to train
- seniority based so it’s hard to book time off in the summer
- summers are extremely hot, don’t forget a water bottle




Western Canada Human Resources is non existent. If you have a problem expect it to be buried rather than resolved. 
Mngt thinks they know more than employees and lack the experience to back it up. 
Coworkers are aware that nothing ever changes so they put up with it. 
Pay and blue cross benefits are a little above average. Thank the unions for that not Lp’s kind heartedness. 
Overall, if it’s a short duration employment your looking for this is the fit for you.

Upper management is an excellent example of poor morale integrity and a serious lack of experience. Constantly lie to employees, constant lay offs that aren't disclosed to perspective employees during the interview process. But the most concerning is the serious lack and acknowledgment of safety concerns within the plant and the bare minimum the management is willing to do, if anything to address them when brought forward.

Hard work in hot, dusty conditions. Some good front-line managers with confusing, cheap upper management. Training isn't good, and HR is inadequate. 
Some good coworkers, but many aren't knowledgeable or experienced. Some get promotions or apprenticeships, but most stay where they are.
Not a career, but okay for a job if you really need one. To be fair, this is the whole industry.


They pay well but you will have to work hard and long hours in uncomfortable situations.  The management team at this division is toxic and many have quit because of it. 

This was one of the worst career decisions I made. Management was horrible, the supervisors lacked professionalism, and the HR person at the time was completely oblivious, due to lack of knowledge and education.  Do yourself a favor and never ever work in that place.

Fix equipment just enough so it runs for the rest of the shift

I love the job security I have here. They treat me well and I feel appreciated. They have strived to keep their promises to me and I’ve been training in new positions and advancing. 
Dispite previous reviews, they do appreciate and try to reward hard work, initiative, and a positive attitude when they see it. 

I used to dread getting up and going to work. The job was ok but it was a place where your coworkers would stab you in the back.I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone who wants to have a life.It is unionized but if you have a problem they are not there to help you. They side with the company.
