Managers lack empathy and have a very corporate view of what’s supposed to be a non-profit organization, serving seniors. The organization wants to gain funding not to help their clients but to give management bonuses and not give bonuses to the frontline workers. Some managers aren’t even qualified for their roles and only keep their roles because of friendships with senior management. When social workers advocate for their clients, the organization’s outlook is that clients should take whatever support they can get and if they don’t, that means they don’t really need the support. Lack of training, lack of support, lack of professionalism, lack of care for the wellness of their employees, lack of care for the clients. Caseloads are unmanageable as social workers were also expected to provide support to community clients online 7 days a week, be apart of 1-2 committees, create policies and procedures, look over and approve of legal waivers, etc. Management delegated creating policies and procedures as well as liability waivers to social workers as a response to the team feeling overworked and not supported. When concerns are brought up to management and senior management, more work is piled onto employees so they don’t have time to bring up concerns and everything is swept up under the rug to protect its managers rather than ensuring clients are holistically supported. Social workers were very siloed by management and were not encouraged to speak to other managers to gain information. A lot of micromanaging and lack of trust of employees.

Satisfaction and fulfillment derived from helping clients, putting smiles on their faces, and seeing them get the help they need, it has a family friendly environment and rewarding accomplishment to make a difference in the lives of clients and their families.

Multitasking, and conflict management and resolution 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
A friendly work environment and supportive co-workers and front-line staff who look out for each other. Respect client dignity, culture and beliefs. Giving client preference analysis autonomy over their decision 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Leaning new skills and admitting new residents as well as giving the clients the utmost care for their healthy well-being

Very productive and satisfying when seeing others are getting the help they need at the right time. The management is supper in trying to accommodate as much work as possible. The most enjoyable part of the job is when clients are happy of the service. The hardest part of the job is when meeting with clients who do not want you to help them for their personal care and this is understood as some of them have dementia , lost loved ones and/or  irritation due to lose of mobility. Would like to go back to Luma Care if they start hiring as they are very reliable and caring. Luma care provides the best and professional PSWs to customers according to their needs.

My work at Lumacare was a horrible experience. No management support to front line workers... As a frontline worker, you are somtimes expected to handle over a 100 case loads without being appreciated for your effort. The pay is a complete trash considering the level of work we bring to the organization. Decisions concerning clients are made by upper management without consulting the front line worker who actually have one on one interaction  with these clients. As a staff, you can get laid off without good reasons or notice.. Very very bad experience. I would not recommend anyone to work there. Period!!!.

The place is full of gossips, mini bosses, people that refused new hired as they will never give you all the information you need to do a good work, and are always ready to make you feel incompetent. They even recognized that they are known for not welcoming well new hired. They claim they need staff in the management but will never really let you do your job. Not open to new ideas, new information.  I will never recommend that place unless you are my worst enemy

Some of the staff are nice to work with, while some are two faced. The management are out of touch with the real world and staff turnover is extremely high. Too much politics and red tape going on, and you could loose your job if you are not liked by any of the senior staff members.

The salary is quite poor compared to other non-profit organization around, but nonetheless it is a great place to get an entry level job and build professional experience.

Everything from the friendly staff to the excellent clients I couldn't ask for a better job I enjoy every hour spend with clients.

I have no stress working with this company.

The environment is good and they have a multicultural company

Very busy most time I work 7-9 hours a day

There are so many things lumacare needs to work on. It department is not effective. I don't get enough hours .phones are needed for community based work not iPad. .I don't have anything more to say. Work on the salary and let more hours be given for those who are ready to work. People leave because no hours  .and do a follow up on staff complaints about clients. Clients are sometimes abusive towards staff. I have had my share of experience, verbally and body shaming.

It is no best part. The management including HR very unprofessional.
Very high turn over rate. Low pay

The manager asking you to do task that you not supposed to

People coming and leaving this organization. Because of the low pay , they able to hire people who not train properly. Supervise such a team a big challenge

Management that refuses to assist you in any meaningful way

The overall team culture was fantastic, the staff truly looked out for each other. You were able to feel welcomed by any department.
