Had heard things had been gradually going down hill, just has gotten worse in last several years. Managers and directors in many departments that don't have a clue, being replaced by even worse kids who think they are now the next coming of Jesus. 
You rent their equipment which nobody cares about, and when it breaks (which it will) you are subject to sitting around waiting for their corporate / repair policies (many shops will not even touch their equipment unless driver guarantees payment) which can take days to be followed. Do not expect to be paid for any of this down time unless you are ready for a fight that drags out for weeks or even months (technique is to just ignore requests)
If any dispute arises with a load, the agent is always right, in spite of them recruiting with slogans as: No matter who you are, you're always good enough to become a freight agent at our Landstar agency!! This gives you an idea who you are dealing with while you are on the road. My apologies to the few good agents out there, but the 80/20 rule absolutely applies ( 80% being absolutely not so useful)

What is the best part of working at the company?
The support team,you are your own dispatch,lots of freight that you choose,hazmat dept has a team that goes thru your bills before you leave customer to avoid fines.rewards or gifts for safe driving,very good securement training,finance repairs if need be.the eld dept can be very intrusive...compliance is a must at landstar

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Tornadoes in texas,Arkansas,heavy weather,and safety when in Laredo texas( Mexican border)

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Great! I loved it nobody bugged me while doing my job

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Putting in those miles,loneliness,talking with God and just enjoying all the sights and scenery

Canadian owners from Western Canada should steer clear. There's just not enough work for you. 

You would have to be away from home for 2 or 3 weeks at a time to earn a good living here. Stay in the Midwest/South and Ontario to have a chance to haul any good paying loads. 

Other than that their insurance/warranty options are horrible. Every single claim I put in was denied and Landstar just doesn't offer any recourse action except for going deeper into debt with them. 

If you stay out of trouble, you will never hear from them. You have total flexibility in determining your work pace and schedule.

My experience at landstar was one of disappointments andisappointment ends right now I believe also regret it's a good company to understand the truth you understand the true and bigger picture of trucking of trucking but to be completely honest if you are not an American citizen you are wasting your are wasting your time as the loads provided will not even go far in terms of financial in terms of availability on the loadboard most of the available loads are gone that's as soon as they're posted the brokers need to be regulated more

Canadians (after jumping through  hoops) will have a remarkably limited load board; literally, too often a 1:5000 ratio compared to the US load board, useless LCAPP (tires is about it), no access anymore to the warranty program (thanks for that) and the brokers; supposedly experienced and qualified but more often outsourced to Gods knows where and then add TQL and well... Best of luck with them. The infrastructure is antiquated and support… anyway, go elsewhere.

- learned that I can accomplish anything I set my mind to within short periods of time due to deadlines
- management was easy to work with
- your co-workers were easy to get along with
- the hardest part of the job was being able to separate my home life to my business life as I was on call 24-7
- the most enjoyable part of the job was learning about the logistics environment

Good company to work with if you like to be your own boss. But, as any big corporation, guys in the office have the mentality of "make your boss happy, don't care about your team" so many times they are ending up going over their own rules. Also, if you are a Landstar agent with big numbers rules just don't apply to you. You can screw any driver you want. Landstar will be always on your side. 

Awesome company I worked there for 14 years  I loved being part of a very safety oriented company and lots of help of answers and communication  that's what makes things work  .I have and will always remember their safety aspects that makes me a million mile driver 😲 I went on to do many driving jobs in different areas 

I am always treated very well and the hours are totally flexible according to my needs. However lately there has not been enough business to keep me busy and as a result I have had my hours drastically cut. That being said, my boss feels terrible about it and is doing her best to keep me busy.

The pros no dispatchers to deal with, you pick your own loads
Very pleasant people at Landstar, always friendly and helpful.

The con is that there very few Canadian loads, and a lot of Canadian BCO’s. There are times when a person may sit for a week or more.
