Where to start... 

The workload was enough for two people in terms of high-intensity job, three in terms of regular workload. My colleagues would just butcher it and then act innoncent when the boss would go around asking who didn't do their job right. I don't act innocent unless I know I'm innocent, so the responsibility for casual mistakes and things not done right would always land on me. Even after proving it wasn't me, they'd tell me: it has to be, everyone else says they didn't do it. They ended up apologising for most of them. 

The only positive thing, is that the managers were nice. They wouldn't yell or be mean, they'd smile. And they taught me a lot of things, like using a cashier, steaming clothes, calling clients on the phone, customer service, etc. However a lot of the trainings with the cashier were wrong and caused me to regularly make important mistakes I was then blamed for before, two weeks of mistakes later, they found out my trainer was making the mistakes with me (I was getting double the blame). This is on top of the smaller mistakes I mentioned.
 
They demand you wear a full face of makeup and do your hair. And will constantly complain about your clothes until you wear exactly what the store sells. I didn't even own a flat iron.

The sales reps would try to appropriate each other's sales by tricking me. The youngest sales rep had the same problem as me: she was nice.
 
I laugh now when I think back, but back then it was a nightmare. I would come home and cry because it was my first job and I thought they would all be like this... 6 jobs later, nothing ever came close to the horror of Laura Canada, and all of them payed more. Yes, it was minimum wage. 

Also, it's really a problem of administration and the model it follows...

At the beginning of every shift, we would have a staff meeting to discuss any issues, accomplishments, successes, new sales information, inventory changes and just communicate any or all new ideas and spread the joy and fun of working together.

We would be assigned our partners and our store dept. (Laura Petite, Laura Regular or Laura Plus/Petite) and then we would proceed to walk the store and locate all new products to better promote them and serve the customers.  

We worked 1 on 1 with our ladies and would be at their disposal from the minute they walked in to the minute they walked out, without being intrusive.  We would suggest, show and accommodate the customers to their satisfaction and complete the sales transactions for them.  We would advise them of any wonderful promos or sale items to help them select items of their choice.  We had a Gold Appointment program, which allowed us to work with our clients at their convenience. They would book the time and date and we would prepare a clothing rack for them before their appointment.  They would let us know their colour, size and style preferences.  We would advise them that there was no obligations to purchase any of the clothing during their appointment, the purchases were "optional".

We tidied up the store at the end of every shift so that it was attractive and welcoming to our customers the next morning.  The most enjoyable part of my job, was the interaction with my co-workers and the customers.  I met and supported many wonderful people and helped both, customers and co-workers to the best of my abilities.  I was then rewarded with the best feelings from the satisfied ladies.

I spent 2 and a half years working with this company at the Toronto Eaton Centre location (which has since closed). I was hired as a service coordinator with open availability, Monday-Friday, all day. For the first year I worked up to 40+ hours a week. After about a year that tapered off to a steady Monday-Friday, 10:00-4:30 usually. At one point during my employment I was the only service coordinator for that location for a period of time. I felt over-worked and under appreciated and asked my manager multiple times to hire one more person to no avail. After a few months of this we fonay hired more service coordinators. I was "promoted" (with no pay) to lead coordinator of about 2-3 girls. In that time I was learning/being taught in the visual department and enjoying it immensely. However I was never considered a position to be able to move forward in that field, even as opportunities to do so arose. 
In the start of my 2nd year my manager (of that location for 13 years) was relocated along with the entire management team. They replaced a 3 person team with, at the time, one person. And during the year this person was a manager, the company was unable to keep a management structure in this location. After multiple complaints and poor performance of the store, they failed to rectify the situation which ultimately led to this location closing. 
I was employed with this company at this location until the last day. 

I would have expected better from a company this size and reputation. I made the best out of a bad situation, a lot of the time.

I can say that Laura Canada has a great  working environment. Positive ambiance, friendly environment. I worked at Laura Canada for more than a year but all I could say is that it was a comfortable workplace. People were so warm and welcoming even the people on the positions. I could also say that the whole family that owns the business  are so kind and friendly. And my manager that was very understanding whenever something comes up, she knows how to handle and take care of the employees under her management, and the HR that's always there when there's an inconvinience at work and needed their guidance, they keep the workplace safety. These are some of the many good reasons why I would recommend Laura to my friends. If only not for medical reasons I wouldn't leave Laura, it was really hard to say goodbye to everyone. I love Laura and I love all the people working around, everyone is contributing their part to the company, everyone works hard. I could say that because everyday I was walking around the whole Laura I see everybody  so focus doing their jobs. I truly  miss working at Laura Canada, I miss everyone😪. Wishing Laura more success together with the employees❤🙏.
 

It was a pleasure to manage and work with older women to whom I could call my grandma. 

They where all lovely hard working women that had been working at Laura's for many years some over 10 years. 

The pay was just average for the sales staff, they are very thrifty with pay and raises. Women working there for over 10 years only got like 10 cent raises and would complain to me all the time about other women stealing sales, all their woes and problems but they where generally nice older women.

There was never any room to really grow even though as appart of management you where always being trained to do managers job and did it on a regular basis. 

Not my cup of tea for a forever job, but if you are just a happy go lucky gal that likes to get out interact with the public and loves fashion this is a good part time job for you. 

note: there is alot of heavy lifting and cleaning especially during busy seasons and holidays.

VERY STRESSFUL PLACE from beginning to end you are micro-managed have quotas to meet and have to purchase there own clothes to work there. WHEN HIRED they never tell you you have to clean bathrooms and mop floors and clean. Targets have to be met and so much competition and favoritism that makes the job uncomfortable to work and if you do not meet targets you get written up, IF they don't like you you are targeted to fail. IF YOU VOICE YOUR OPINION YOU ARE ALWAYS PUT DOWN AND AFTERWARDS TARGETED TO FAIL. WITH 14 DOLLARS AN HOUR THEY GET THEIR ONEY AND THEN SOME. have to make mothly calls for birthdays and promotions to clients have to put away clothes meet targets that are sometimes unreachable, the only plus side to it you get discounts for the clothes you have to buy to wear there which again is too high average pants 100 dollars and it cost you 50 dollars plus tax. then the tops and a must of black shoes which is your responsibility. OVERALL BAD MANAGEMENT you can not complain.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Clean environment with moderate physical labor required. Customers are usually very respectful and well mannered. 
Working with small  team so feels like family as you work longer with colleagues. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
You have to approach customers to meet your sales goals each shift. Clienteling is part of your jobs as well as in-store sales. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Overall it’s good as you get familiar with the culture of your store but depending who is managing the store.  You will find out after you enter the company. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
You start selling from the beginning till store closes but in between you also maintain the neatness of the store to make Laura merchandise appealing to the customers.  Also you will help customers to order the outfits and assist with return.

I don't have a lot to say about working for Laura Canada, other than I wish I had done more research on working for the company before I started.  

It has very basic benefits, there are no perks, and the offices are dreary and difficult to access. 

The 5 family-member owners are the heads of all departments, it is very much run like a small family business, except it employs thousands of people. 

The managers are poorly trained, employees aren't given clear directives, and training, courses and career development don't exist. 

You are a number, you do your job, collect your paycheck and that's it. Layoffs and dismissals are very common occurrences, the turnover is high.

Recently went from full remote to 2 days a week hybrid. 

They are extremely short-staffed in the warehouse and force office staff to work shifts. It's called "volunteering" but you are expected to do it. 

Very disorganized on all levels, if you value a company that treats it's staff well, look elsewhere. 

The owner is an incredibly smart and an affluent businessman, who created a massive empire.  His sons, on the other hand, don't know how to motivate their employees, and allow their managers/directors the freedom of taking ownership of their job tasks.  They micro-manage, and worst, they do not know what they are talking about.  The Director of Construction/Maintenance/Procurement, for example, does not know the difference between plywood, MDF, and gypsum.  He has no sense of construction, nor project management, yet he is the Director of this division.  It is a shame, because if they empowered their professional managers to do their jobs and not micro-manage them, the company would be far more successful.  Happy employee makes for a successful company, not here!  My position has been filled by a different person 4 years in a row.

Working at Laura Canada was a pleasure! As service coordinator, my team's job was to handle the day-to-day affairs of the store including: receiving and processing shipments, markdowns and price adjustments, running point-of-sales procedures, merchandising the store according to corporate's seasonal aesthetic, and many more such duties to keep the store running efficiently. 

During my time at Laura I learned to keep pace in a dynamic sales environment and adapt to the ever-changing demands of my position. I truly mastered multi-tasking in my role as a service coordinator. 

The best part of this job was the people. The entire Laura team was very supportive of one another, fun-loving and genial. The managers were helpful, approachable, and always willing to put in extra effort to train employees. The customers were a pleasure to serve!
