I was hired and let go within a couple of weeks of being there. I have over 20 years experience as a receptionist and admin. I was hired to take care of the clinical side of the operation. Training was minimal, but I did manage to learn the pretesting and how to schedule appointments, take payments and check OHIP cards. I thought things were going pretty well, obviously not...there was no feedback, until I was dismissed. There is a lot of pressure to find people to book into appointments in ten minute slots...almost to the point of harrassing people by calling them generally three times leading up to an appointment which I find over the top. I think they didn't like me asking what day I would have off each week, as I want a work life balance of 5 days per week. they didn't know enough to put up a schedule at the end of each week for the next week. They probably didn't like that I asked to be paid for overtime that I did either...as the manager told me they don't pay overtime...but they did! Lastly, I was told I was doing a good job by the manager on one busy day, so go figure...I don't recommend working here.

I worked here and the only reason was because I wanted experience. Like you see in the other reviews, if you want job experience and being taken advantage of then please do apply here, other wise save your time. I am a university student and I made that clear when I started working for this company. At first they made it seem like they were able to work around my schedule but slowly they became more and more demanding to the point that I would start missing a few classes. Finally during final exam time I told them in advance that exam dates were out of my control and they made it seem like i should miss my finals for the job. To be honest working there made me feel like they wanted me to quit school and work for them. Finally when I couldn’t take it anymore , I quit and it was the best decision ever. Do your self a favour and avoid this company.

I have been working at Laurier Optical last five years; company has new owners since 2018 and they are holding great professionalism; I do understand all bad comments and reputation are coming from previous owner but those days are gone and Laurier optical is offering a great deal of opportunity for optometrist  and opticians. 

With all good changes at Laurier Optical stores; we have new professional staff, amazing designer frames and excelling on customer service; I will kindly ask all Ottawans  to go visit Laurier Optical locations and see how things are way better. 

Professional Management is already proven itself on effective store operations, employee and customer satisfaction.

My review is for Laurier Optical in Carlingwood Mall for the Clinical Assistant/ Sales Associate position:
- Do not work there, as top management promises salary increase before hiring you, but once you're hired, you're stuck with that salary.
- There is no feedback from top management, they never answer your inquiries either through phone or email.
- Customers are never happy because their orders are not delivered at time and sales associates have to deal with their frustration.
My recommendation is to stay away from that company!

This job was recommended to me by a friend who works there, the first day I went in for a trial period, I was told after this if the boss likes me she will call me back to continue working, in other words, I would be hired.  
The thing is when my shift is over I will go home unless I'm asked to do otherwise, I worked on day with the boss in my two months there, one day, and she got annoyed at the fact that I punched out and left (when my shift ended and I finished my work) and I didn't wait for her to be done too?
On top of that the way I was 'fired' was so unprofessional; I worked there for almost two months when I was told by my FRIEND (who had nothing to do with HR and nothing to do with hiring or firing people) not to come to work anymore because the boss never hired me?

You will be hired at a low wage, with no benefits, if you want benefits you have to pay into them and they are not typically worth it.  Management is the problem with this company, it is awful.  They move you from position to position without asking, and they never give you a chance to settle and do a job well.  If by chance management likes you, the boss will move you to other problem areas and expect you to succeed again, if you do not it is entirely your fault and you have failed the company.  Loyalty is never rewarded.

The store manger threaten to hit a staff member for asking a question, would yell at employees for mistakes.  Head office bombards the stores with e-mails singling out employees by names.  Vice President of sales only looks out for managers and upper management.  There are no protections for employees, employees are constantly getting switched from one location to the next. Head office will call and yell on the phone if  sales are down or the clinic isn't full. Monthly manager meetings are just a method for head office to abuse them, and then tell them to be tough on employees. THE WORST PLACE TO WORK!!!

They will use you to do whatever outside of your job, from construction work to delivery. Often keep you working overtime without pay. Terminate you before the 3 month probation so they don't have to pay you benefit. Upper management is a big mess. It's a family own business and you should always expect their drama. The company's focus is its franchising business instead of optical goods. They will often blame you or guilt trip you for things that you're not responsible, nor even heard of, just to prolong their payment term with suppliers or satisfy their franchises.

I work as a Receptionist at Laurier as well as a Sales Representative , I deal with the public daily and feel that I am a very approachable and easy going individual ,I deal with conflict with customers and know that I can handle every situation with respect and Dignity.The people I work with and the customers and patients on the most part make my job easy , I love dealing with people so this job is good for my personality.
