I have been working as a pharmacy assistant for the 4 years I have been in my Pharm.D. program and have worked in 3 stores. Management is very accommodating if you move and want to work from a different "home store" that is easier to commute to. You can also pick up shifts at any other Lawtons location and tell management to get the hours added to your paycheck, which has allowed me to work essentially anywhere while on my work terms and even on extended vacations.
However (and this is a big however!) across all locations I have worked there are some concerning issues: I am almost always denied breaks in order to meet corporates' rather intense standards for quotas and time/prescription. You are always expected to show up early (unpaid) and leave late (unpaid). You stand for the entire shift - very few stores allow for standing stools/chairs or even cushioned mats on the floor. Management is hit or miss when it comes to protecting you from shouting/violent customers, and many stores have issues with getting the schedule out. In all 4 years working I can count the amount of scheduled shifts that had more than 7 days notice on one hand, and I have currently worked the last 8 months getting the schedule 2 to 5 days at a time, making it near impossible to plan the rest of my life. 
There is training, but the pharmacists are so busy that they do not make you do it (have been here 4 years at 10-40 hours a week and have never watched the training videos).
You also get yelled at by the general public a lot for things you have nothing to do with, like the wait time at the doctors office, or how much their insurance wants to cover for their medication - this is fun if you are tough and like a good laugh, but stressful in the moment. A lot of assistants are brought to tears on a weekly or shift-ly basis.

Been with this company for many years and have learned way too much about how it operates.

This is a temporary stepping stone into the world of retail at best and usually best suited as a first job for teenagers and a side job for retired individuals however pay is the lowest in the retail sector as this is an Empire Group company whose focus is not on paying their employees what they are worth based on skills and expectations but rather what their profit margin dictates. The company has reported earnings in the millions yet pay their most important team members in customer service minimum wage. 

Management is "coached" to keep expenditures like wages low by limiting hours to prevent part time benefits. They do this by hiring so many part time employees that you will most likely never get to claim benefits unless your manager actually likes you because you work harder then everyone around you. 

This results in creating expectations to do every job for the same pay rate and limits wage increases to pennies on the dollar.

Communication from the top down is horrible and limited as even those above management are overworked. 

Because this is a company that treats it's employees as replaceable numbers rather then a valuable person it can cause a very toxic work environment if management in the store is too complacent.

Your best bet is to go to or stay in school and chase a better career with a company that will treat you like you matter rather then another grunt to line their pockets.

My colleagues/superiors in this position were amazing! They were very supportive, open to helping you out (not just with work problems), had the balance of professionalism and being personable. The training was hands-on, allowed me to succeed within the role and to gain experience for my current career. Job of course had its stress filled moments (due dates/certain patients), but overall had a good balance of workload. Though the days went by slow, my co-workers made it better. I do have a couple complaints though. First, the pay didn't quite feel suitable, there was oppurtunity to request raises after a while, but for a job that is aimed to be somewhat of a career/meant for full-time hours, along with the workload, didn't feel a match. Second, there was little to no advancement within the pharmacy dept, pretty much stuck in that role unless you have a pharmacy degree (makes sense), if you're looking for oppurtunity I'd suggest a different dept (have little knowledge on that though). Last, wouldn't recommend this at all if you're looking for part-time hours, as a student when I was working full-time hours during the summer, it of course worked since I was available, but you'll be given little/no hours when the school term starts again (isn't too flexible in that regard).

Over the 3 years I worked at Lawtons; I was harassed and discrimated against for a mental disorder, was told that the disorder doesn't exist, and then was threatened to lose my job if I couldn't "get a handle on my social issues." This was all after I asked a question, for another employee who didn't feel comfortable, about our Christmas party location. I had contacted HR, who then decided to call the front store manager and say that I was slandering my supervisor. So I got written up for "lowering company morale."  I transfered to a different location, only to find out that the pharmacy and front store employees were basically at war and hated each other. Pharmacy, including the head pharmacist, proceeded to insult and gossip about front store staff in front of customers in a completely unacceptable manner. At this location I was led to believe on 4 separate occasions that I would be getting a promotion, one of the times ending in my supervisor telling me the job isn't around anymore, that the company was "phasing it out". Next week, a co-worker of mine was promoted to that position. It's a high school bullying-ground for people who never grew up. I could go on for hours about how messed up this company is. 

TLDR: if you expect basic human decency or want to be treated fairly, don't work for this company. What a waste of my time and effort.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The stuff that I work with are exceptionally professional and wonderful just a pleasure to work with since I started my position there they've been very accommodating understanding and very kind I cannot say enough good things about this company.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
There really isn't anything stressful about the job I find the work is at an ease pace there's no pressure there's always somebody there to answer any questions you might have if you're unsure of things there is proper training and guidance again it is a wonderful company if you're looking for outgoing friendly and kind people

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Lawtons Drugs is accepting of all cultures of all walks of life the environment is cleanliness kindness and acceptance. They are really good company to work for they get a 10 out of 10 from me 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Happy enjoyable pleasant wonderful experience a typical day there is a very happy one there's no drama no stress no criticisms it's all professional and very well organized.

The management and co-workers are very collaborative, friendly. Working at Lawtons has been a rewarding experience that has helped me grow both personally and professionally. The environment is fast-paced, but the support from coworkers and supervisors makes it manageable and motivating. I’ve had the opportunity to develop strong customer service skills, learn about retail operations, and take on responsibilities such as cashiering, stocking, facing, and inventory checks. The training is straightforward and effective, which makes adapting to new tasks much easier. I also appreciate how Lawtons emphasizes teamwork and clear communication, ensuring that shifts run smoothly. One of the highlights is interacting with customers and building connections, which makes every day feel meaningful. While retail can be demanding at times, Lawtons provides a balanced and supportive atmosphere that makes the work enjoyable. Overall, it’s a great place for students or anyone looking to gain valuable retail experience while working with a friendly and professional team.

The girl who was training me handed me all the work that she did not like.  Almost every shift she came in atleast 10-20 min late and leaves 5-10 min early and does not change her time so she end up getting paid for her whole shift.  She is gone 10-15min to go the washroom or cafeteria and have a break every hour.  Everyday she went over her break 10-15 min.  She is close with the supervisor so she can change shift all the time and she end up having the easy shift.  She can leave for appt whenever she likes and comes back when she likes and still gets paid for the whole shift. She swear about customers as soon as she turned around and dealt with them.  One time she had the nerve to get mad at the hearing impaired guy when it was her who made the mistake.  She told me she was the supervisor and gets paid higher but it was not the case.  
The Korean lady who worked with us started doing what she does and hilarious when they fought.  
I do like majority of my coworkers.  Pay is like what many complained - real low

Lawtons was a great place for me to gain valuable work experience. I learned a lot about interacting with customers, how the operations of a company could work, and how to work with others. My management had a great balance between professionalism while having good relationships with workers which I found was a very valuable aspect to working. My coworkers were similar to me in which we were all fairly young, however our backgrounds and interests varied which gave me a great chance to learn to work with people who may have different personalities. The hardest part of the job was taking on work that I wasn't comfortable with since I hadn't done certain things before, however I gained a lot from these experiences. The most enjoyable part of the job was making relationships with me coworkers that will last for a long time, and enjoying my time at work rather than having a work environment where I wasn't comfortable.

I work at the Warehouse for Lawton's and let me tell you, it is not at all merit driven. The only satisfaction is the Union gives reasonable job security against the management's whims.

I achieved very high KPIs, didn't take holidays, didn't waste time talking, but I didn't get a promotion I was qualified for. Instead, when I once drank coffee in the lunchroom for 5 mins longer than I should I got scolded! 

On promotions, the management DID promote  "yes man" type employees who fake laughed along side them and were willing to share the conversations they overheard of coworkers. That's regardless of their incompetence, and or poor attendance which are core parts of any role.

I would come here as a last resort, and leave ASAP. There is no room for growth.

A typical day was pretty easy, count your till, wait on customers, give customer service, keep cash area clean and tidy, and do any assigned jobs given to you by the manager. I learned quite a bit as you will see in my resume but most importantly I learned to be the best I can be and no less. My Manager was a very fair person, understood and very helpful if there was something I needed help with. Well my co-workers were the best, we may have had our moments but we were friends through everything. The hardest part of my job was dealing with shoplifters, but I did it. Meeting new people and the customers who left a lasting impression on me was my most enjoyable part of my job. I made numerous friends(young and elderly).
