I worked at Layfield for 6 years and there were lots of politics in the shop. Many of the lead hands don't want their people to succeed and advance within the company. They also are bitter against each other most of the time. I saw lead hands putting each other down in front of management, backstabbing to get ahead of their peer. Management saw what happened and did nothing to stop this. They also don't care about their employees' well being by putting everyone on a rotating night shift working 8pm to 8am. They have a progression system in place, but there's always delay after delay to get verification from your supervisor in order to progress into a higher level. The culture really needs to get better in my opinion

I have been able to develop my skills quickly and effectively for my position.

The work environment is overall positive and friendly.   Management maintains a open door policy, which prevents discouragement and negativity.



It’s a good place to work, benefits is great, management not much bad, because some leaders are raises, and pay according to the levels and knowledge of training you get through the process.

They never tell you where (anywhere in Ontario) you're going to be working and for how long. Inconsistent hours could be getting 60-80 hours a week could be 30-40. If you work here you will be frustrated with the lack of information that gets passed down to the technicians. Lay offs for winter but could be laid off December 1st without notice.

Fair place to work at, lots of exercise. The place was different day to day. Plenty of various jobs to work at to keep things interesting. From oil or chemical liner fabrication, to wood-stake fence-bundle manufacturing. Good people to work with as co-workers.

Welcoming atmosphere. Multi cultural, plenty of faces to see, people to meet. friendly environment to work at. lots of walking, movement. always thinking of ways to make the work load smoother.

The whole staff goes out for dinner  and plays bowling or go kart once in a while. Management and the production workers.share the same lunch room and kitchen items.

Great coworkers and management is great too. Seasonal work so very slow in the winter until you are certain level tech then year round work available. On your feet a lot for the work but not hard and the compensation is fair.

Learning new Engineering applications outside of University.
Workplace culture is great. Layfield is multicultural.
Peers are friendly and easy to work with.

Plan to work like robots when you come to the field with angry illiterate supervisors and shouting every time. Everything is hard, management, pay, everything is not normal, being treated as we are from prison.
