I could go on about the company. I’m not even sure where to start. HR is biased and still has not gotten back to me about my terrible work experience there. So much disrespect and condescending management makes your job so much harder even though they have half the work load you do as a product manger. I applied for a visual merchandising position and ended up working as an active manager/assistant manager/marketer/sales associate MAJORITY of the time and had little time to complete my own tasks. The work load for the PM position alone is unattainable and the PM before me (who was also black) quit for the exact same reasons. In fact every person of colour that has worked there has had some sort of bad experience. The manager I had would cry to not get in trouble and they would have nicknames for her/excuse her mistakes. “Can’t” take time off or call in sick without getting ridiculed but sales associates have that freedom. I have many many things I could say about this company and I’m willing to take it public so if you feel you have had your time, money, schooling and experience wasted by Le Chateau please follow “Le Chateau Work Experiences” on Facebook, i will created a page. I want us to be able to speak about this because they just silence or fire people if they have something to say. I feel Canadian companies do not have the right to do this and it’s an experience I see people (especially poor people of colour) and myself have all the time knowing they can just replace people. They all say “this does not reflect the company” and move on. I will be posting more in depth situations when I see people follow. TELL YOUR STORIES. These companies have been doing this for too long.

I have worked for this company twice. Once when I was 17 (2007), and it was ok to have crazy hair and tattoos. You could wear what you wanted as long as you looked nice and the manager was awesome and you didn't get over worked and upper management didn't look at you like you were garbage. 

The second time (2011) I worked there they cared more about appearance then how you dealt with customers. I was told to grow my hair out because I had a tattoo bigger then 2 inches on the back of my neck. I have worked retail for 9 years and have never had anyone say they didn't want my help because of my tattoos. When you leave to go on breaks or you're done your shift they frisk you, go through your entire purse, wallet, your jacket, every pocket, they even open up yogurt and hand cream containers, I'm not even sure if it's a legal search. You have to claim which Le Chateau products you're wearing as well. Maybe if they paid and treated employees better then criminals they might not have so much internal theft. The back room is plastered in anti-theft posters. I've never ever felt so horrible about myself working anywhere. The manager should not have been a manager, she would criticize what I would wear everyday. I had a pink/red streak in my hair that I would comb under while on shift because unnatural hair colours weren't allowed and she would come up to me and touch my hair to cover it up if it peaked out at all. I had a hand full of customers tell my they loved it too. For the first week of working there, (even though she knew I worked there before) she would steal my commissions saying I wouldn't make any until 2 weeks of working, I was also supposed to get 50% off coupons to get clothing and she took those too. She would also leave the store during her shift to go shopping at other stores. 

This place wants to be a high end brand, but it's a mall brand and always will be. In 2007, most of their products were made in Canada, they didn't use leather or fur either, they threw that out the window.

This company seems great to work for but without a doubt, will end your employment and turn their back on you at the drop of a dime.

I started in the Niagara falls store when it opened March of last year. I was a very dedicated employee who worked hard consistently, was never late, never in trouble for anything and always being complimented on my work by other employees and customers.

I found my job there as assistant manager and men's product manager to be extremely difficult because the other manager's who worked at this location did nothing. One was always tired and had sore feet blah blah blah. The other was way to laid back and the response to all of your concerns was "it is what it is"

I liked the store to be neat, clean and organized, but they didn't care. The problems I encountered were problems that were had by other staff since the store opening almost a year ago. Nothing was done in one year, of these ongoing issues.

There was an mutual argument between my manager and I one night and that was it, she claimed that she felt unsafe working with me which was completely used to her advantage to get me out of there.

That was it, FIRED! I was never given an actual reason for termination, never told what was said about me...NOTHING!!

The problem starts with the supervisor who comes into your workplace and is always probing the staff about what the manager says and does. So much negativaty. The whole company is a complete waste of time. Trying to pursue a career with these guys is next to impossible because you have no job security. A company under no circumstances should just let you go like this, no questions asked.

Le château is not welcome to contact me in any way shape or form except regarding current issues of why I was not paid lieu pay for being terminated without notice.

The team that I was working with were a great group of people, I have no complaints. Immediate manager had my respect and loyalty. Not everyone is so lucky.

Le Chateau's daily functions are what you would expect from a professional clothing manufacturer. The clothing is designed for a specific type of client who enjoys the finer things in life, is in good physical condition, and earns an above average salary, or has extra cash at the end of the week. They are good at what they do, and should survive what is presently a difficult time for enterprises in the retail market.

Their head office direction would like for all employees to be happy and comfortable; however, there are serious limits on what they are prepared to do to make this happen.

One major constraint is finances; the company is at a point in the business cycle where trimming expenses is a paramount concern, this could effectively lead to working with older equipment, chairs that no longer adjust, and other details that do not prevent an employee from working.

Another roadblock to supporting employee wellness is the lack of desire to manage employees who use bullying to get their way. Bullying in the garment industry has a long-established history and looks like it may be here to stay. Seeing this continue unchallenged in other departments was greatly demoralizing. To give respect where it is due, it appears as though the top people in the company are leading by example, and hoping that the others will catch on and change their ways.

If you can keep to your own and find yourself in a good team then you will enjoy yourself.

I worked as a key holder for about 5 months now. When I got hired, I enjoyed it because we had an amazing Staff  for such a small store. However, when new management came in, the store changed into an almost intolerable environment. 

To keep it short, I requested a transfer, same with the product manager and the new hire is quitting

Management is what makes or breaks up the team and is shown as an example in the location I worked

I honestly hope the new team hired for that location can bear it I honestly do.

The new location however is just well run because Its all about management. The staff and manager works together well to achieve the main goal for sales and just having a blast.

Shifts are flexible and if the location you work at doesn't accommodate the amount of hours you want, you can definitely get hours in other stores that need an extra man therefore there would be little to none in shortage or cuts in shifts. 
*another plus point in working in other locations is that people in the company would know you better and increases you work ethic as an employee For the company.

Sales depends on which location you work in. The higher the volume, the better chance of commissioning out. However, you get more stressed especially in women's wear.

Breaks are great because you get 1 hour break for a full 6-8 hour shift,  5 hour shift is 30 min and 4 is 15 minutes. Therefore, you get about twice the length of breaks than most other stores that offer.

All in all, I do enjoy working for this company and they do have their ups and downs and I believe it solely has to do with the staff that makes the experience enjoyable or utterly abysmal. 

I don't plan on leaving anytime soon because I am pretty loyal to this company and I do have more ups than downs working here. 




Do not work for this company, they are the worst. I worked there for just over a year and 20+ people ether quit or were fired. I worked under someone in upper mgnt and it was terrible. Legit made things up, pretended they didn't know about certain issues which were stated in black and white in emails, said great things to employees, but talked about not liking their work to myself. Was beyond petty and just plain unprofessional. Would speak to staff behind my back to"pump" them for information about the store then they would come to talk to me about how uncomfortable it was. Discount cards for a big Christmas  promo didn't show up in time and it was like oh well. then they wondered why we didn't do the same sales as the previous year. Bonuses? don't even bother trying, most days there's 25-40% increase from the last year so it's next to impossible but it's sold to you like it's a joke not to be able to them. The hours for the size store  worked in were hilarious.We worked our butts off trying to sell along with all the other store operations. Basically you can have 3 people on the sales floor at a time which is nothing for the size of the store, and two-3 of them have merchandising to do. There's your lack of sales and shrink right there, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out. Basically their expectations are out to lunch and it becomes an extremely frustrating place to be for everyone. Oh and if you have certain tattoos, facial piercings, or coloured hair, forget about this place. The dress code wont allow it, last time I checked it was 2018 and none of those things dictate how you are as a worker....If i could give you any advice it would be to save yourself the headache and look for another place to work.

A typical day at work involved greeting customers, helping them find styles and items best suited to their body type, bringing them sizes and styles and also putting unpurchased clothes back to the their place in the store. At the end of the night we clean up, which includes putting all items back in their rightful places and organizing items according to size on their racks - sizing the store. I learned how to take initiative and how to communicate with people and approach customers in a friendly and helpful but not pushy manner. Management was well organized. We had a friendly store manager who pushed us to take initiative, come to work looking very presentable and to do our best to meet our sales goals. Most of my co-workers were friendly and cooperative people who I could chat with during slow times The hardest part of the job was trying to meet sales goals during slow days or slow times of the year - it is necessary to find the fine balance between promoting products without being too pushy with customers which only leads to their frustration. The most enjoyable part of the job was when I would vastly exceed my sales goal on good days. It made me feel good and motivated.

Very unprofessional and draining workplace. Enployees are encouraged to flirt with customers to help with sales. Very competitive as Employees are encouraged to steal other employees sales.

Employees are paid minimum wage. Upon hire, they will explain (in little detail and is it hard to understand) how commission works. They explain that if you sell what you are supposed to that you will be making more money than management. little did I know that if you do not make your minumum commission (which is very hard to do) you do not make commission. Commission is much more than selling $260 per hour. You will also have to sell 2 items per person (how do you do that?) well.. If someone walks in wanting pants (you have 2 seconds to greet them at the door) then you have to bring them at least 4 pairs of pants and 2 shirts. While they are in the changing room you HAVE to ask: what size are your feet? (So they can't say no) then bring them 2 pairs of shoes and say "just so you can see the whole outfit." VERY PUSHY!!

I was hired on as full time. Instead of fulltime hours, I got fulltime days. I only worked 21 hours but I worked 6 days a week. (How does that work you might ask?) 5 and 3 hour shifts. 

You also have to wear le chateau clothes, but with the discount it is nice. Although in doing so, you will spend most of your pay checks there.

Pay is based on minimum wage or commission, whichever is higher at the end of the week. Little to no sense of community among employees, everyone is fighting to have the highest sales. Little to no training and most management is completely unequipped to handle the personal concerns of their staff. Management often noticeably holding grudges against employees who resign, regardless of the reasoning. Blaming the employees for the company's continuous loss of money. Products are overpriced for the quality, and the exchange policy is ridiculous. Almost every return/exchange transaction involves staff getting verbally abused by customers. Staff is taught to not mention the exchange policy unless a customer directly asks about it, and little signage indicating the policy either, so many customers don't actually know the policy until they try to return something. This is EXTREMELY common, as the competitive, money making atmosphere leads customers to feel forced to buy something they don't actually want.

Very unprofessional from beginning to end. Wasted a lot of time during interview process, HR made me come in twice more than I had to. The first time because HR did not coordinate their schedule with my department's management for an interview and the second time was to confirm what they had told me the second time.

However, management was very nice and so were my colleagues, except for the woman I worked with. She was controlling and abusive, would not allow me to do anything without her approval and refused to answer my questions. She was condescending and would never allow me to leave until much later (she is in the same junior position as me but has worked for over 10 years).

Management does not know how to deal with these problems, would blame you for being in that position in the first place.

When I gave in my two weeks, management gave me the cold shoulder for the remaining two weeks. Did not even wish good luck, pretended I did not exist anymore.

Do not work here unless you really need a job.
