Le Moulin de Provence

I did an apprenticeship in France few years ago and I have a bit of experience as a pastry cook in France.
I worked at Moulin de Provence for only 2 weeks.

The job offer I applied for was mentioning $15 per hour.
After the interview, I was told that I would get $13 per hour during a 4 day trial period. 40 hours per week. And then I would get $15 and the opportunity to work overtime.

At first I enjoyed working there. Co-workers are very nice and pastry chef is nice also. I was highly motivated to show what I was made of.
But I quickly understood that I would not get a chance to evolve in the job, prove myself, and get a salary that match my skills. I was asked to do tasks a monkey could do. No need to be a skilled pastry cook to do what they asked me.
The pastry chef openly told me that he didn't expected me to be an outstanding pastry cook. He much rather have a basic employee that would be easy to replace the next day with a new un-experienced one. He said "I want to be able to replace workers like I would replace standard parts on a car, you go to the shop and buy a new one, that's it".

Also, I was told that no overtime is possible. "If you were to live one day, we would have to hire 2 persons to replace you instead of one".

On my last day, I was told "Nobody is irreplaceable".
I agree, in this company this is actually perfectly true. Artificially true. As a mater of fact this company is organized around this concept. They won't let you become irreplaceable and have any leverage to negotiate your salary.

This is totally not the job that was depicted to me in the ad and during the interview.
I came to Canada to work hard as a skilled worker and get a better life. I didn't come to Canada to work only 40 hours a week at minimum wages in a unqualified job and not even be able to afford the rent and food.

In a typical day of work you have to ensure that all products sent for sale are beautiful, tasty and fresh,  you have to see which events are coming, or special orders and prepare the items that are required.  See that all ingredients are available et fresh. You might have to discuss orders with customers when necessary.  Ensure the cleanliness of the work surfaces, tools and fridges is essential to avoid cross contamination and germs. Talk to suppliers and discuss prices, quantities, delivery dates, etc..
The most enjoyable part of my days was to be part of a great team of pastry chefs and prepare nice baked goods.
The hardest part was probably to work standing up all day but you move so much that it does not really matter.

Regular work days lasted 8 hours and consisted of working in the several different sections of the restaurant (deli, pastries, bread). Employees would usually switch between working at the cash register, taking clients orders and working the espresso machine.

This job taught me to work well under pressure, particularly doing rush hour, where we would get hundreds of costumers in only a couple hours.

The most enjoyable part of the job was to be able to interact with a wide and diverse group of costumers everyday. I truly enjoy costumer service and the diversity of costumers, particularly tourist, allowed me to use my linguistic capabilities and serve many of them in their native language.

Extremely unprofessional management. She asks extremely invasive and unprofessional questions about your life and everything will always become your fault, even if there's no possible way for it to be your fault. If anything goes wrong financially, and its tracked back to you, you will be asked to pay for it. 

You are constantly expected to keep busy and will get asked to do something even if you're stopping for a drink of water. 

There are ZERO job perks for such a high stress environment where you're treated like garbage. Find another place to work.

It is good if you are bilingual

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The owners are very mean and they do not care about your well-being, they’re very intense and treat you like dirt

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The culture was awful. Inappropriate behaviour from all the men working there - including the owner.

Hard working, friendly co-workers. Very flexible and understanding management who will often go above and beyond for their employees! An environment you wake up WANTING to be apart of!

I was responsible for advertising for the hotel among the travel agencies and other related organizations. I also was responsible for organizing and running some domestic tours.

The work environment is for the most part enjoyable. It can be stressful at times. It is great for a first time job, but is not a permanent career choice.

I use to be cashier at coffee shop that was my first job and first experience in my life 
I start looking for better job after while doing customer service

I encountered a boss with a very bad behavior towards workers. Managing the work place is function of his mood. Sometimes he consider workers like slaves. Sorry for that.
