Typical day working with the elected Member of the Legislative Assembly involved answering a lot of email correspondence, answering the phones, greeting people who came directly into the office, arranging meetings, and all other administrative duties. The MLA I worked for was young and enthusiastic, very flexible with the requirements for me to be in the office, so I could work from home and from my overseas residence. The LAO offered continual training with software, people skills, professional development, and other provincial programs. Plus advice and support were always only ever a phone call or email away. The hardest part of the job was leaving! It was a fixed term contract which, through no fault of my own, was not renewed. The best part of the job was knowing I was helping someone, be that the MLA or local constituents who had issues or concerns that I helped resolve.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Working with little time of knowing what to do with the task ahead of time. Long waiting periods 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Considerate but very service based in a fast paced high demand environment 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Engaging and demanding with many tasks but available resources for staying peaceful

Must be self motivated and have experience dealing with difficult people. Knowledge of government systems and good research skills required. Interest in daily news and up to date government issues.  Each office is usually one or two people. Meet twice a year for learning and meeting others in your same position across the province. Once government changes your job ends. You can reapply with new MLA 

Very challenging and rewarding position. Management and staff very committed to providing top-notch service to Legislative Assembly and its committees. Excellent training and room for advancement and growth. Great teamwork and co-workers.

A typical day as a page involved running around to complete various menial or service tasks for the legislature or individual MLAs. It was challenging and rewarding and repetitive but overall, it was enjoyable. I just wish I didn't have to memorize all of the faces of the MLAs for them to check my name tag in every interaction.

They provide constant updated training with regards to the position that you were hired for. They also have yearly seminars for all the Constituency Assistants to get together and compare daily activities

This was a perfect job. The LAO is very supportive and helpful. Local staff and management was respectful and encouraging. Great opportunity for someone who enjoys office work and connecting with and helping community members. 

Enjoyed help constituents with Provincial Government matters. Networking with other legislative offices and government department was important. 

Not reacting to angry people, staying calm was my greatest skill.

Overall it was good. Friendly staff make you feel like family, but there are clear procedures and instructions regarding different tasks and it's a great opportunity for anyone who wants to closely learn how legislation works in Canada
