A typical day involved teaching engaged students and delivering meaningful, applied education. I learned a great deal about curriculum design, student support, and preparing students for careers in industry. The most enjoyable part of the job was always the students and many committed colleagues who genuinely cared about education and community impact.
Unfortunately, leadership and management decisions in recent years has significantly damaged morale and workplace culture. While administration frequently used language about a “culture of care,” a “psychologically safe workplace,” and being “student centred,” the lived experience of many faculty does not reflect that rhetoric. Communication from leadership was often poor, transparency was limited, and faculty concerns were frequently ignored.
The hardest part of the job was working in an environment where trust in leadership steadily eroded. What could have been a strong institution with passionate educators and motivated students was undermined by leadership that often seemed disconnected from the realities of the classroom and the students experience. 

In my experience, the workplace culture at Lethbridge College is  the healthiest I have experienced in my career. 

Training and ongoing support from coworkers and management is extremely valuable. 

The vast majority employed by the college are positive, helpful, resourceful, and friendly. 

Assisting faculty and students gave me a true sense of fulfillment. It wasn’t the highest-paying job in my career; however, the feeling it gave me to help others succeed, made me feel appreciated. 

I worked the first  nine months of my contract from home and most of the rest of the last five months on campus. 

I loved being on campus, meeting faculty in person, Interacting with students, getting to know my coworkers and other employees. 

I honestly loved my job with a passion. I would’ve stayed at the college,  if I had the choice. 


The job I was hired for was my dream job. Got hired and moved to Lethbridge after two weeks from interview. The course was outdated, staff was not accommodating to show me what was needed to to take over from previous instructors. You get no help from school staff to perform the job you came to do.
 Experience was negative from the start and got worse as the course proceeded. I should have checked reviews before I accepted a job. Picked up all my stuff and moved to Lethbridge to the worst experience of my career. Lethbridge is a great City but the College needs a check up.

Depending on where you work in this college, you may do okay. However, many new people have to work contracts for years and continuously worry whether they will have a job. Regular restructuring to move people around or get rid of them with no communication about what's happening. It's appears to be intentional to keep people stressed and under control. Several insiders have admitted to me this is normal here. If you are looking for a career, best to know people in leadership positions or prepared to wait a long time - otherwise take your chances somewhere else. 

The manager of the marketing team hired me, but left the office the very week I began work. As a result any of the tasks I was hired to do could not be approved without a sitting manager. Situation is everything. The work I ended up partaking in was engaging and fun, but for many days I sat waiting for the next task to come, and when it did it wasn't really important or necessary, but mostly something invented to keep myself busy since none of the "real" work could be done.

What happens when you place toxic people in leadership positions.  Mismanagement, poor decisions, backstabbing and favoritism.  They preach on transparency and then do whatever they want.  Horrible environment which is actively promoted at the VP level.  Some really good people there but when a few senior leaders are inept and lack ethics it is evident in the decisions which are made.

Working with the Learning Cafe was an incredibly rewarding experience. I often felt as though I was the one learning from the students, even though my official role was to support them in their learning. If the position was not casual, I could have stayed for a lifetime. 

My supervisor was also a wonderful, hard-working woman, and from her, I learned a lot. She was always kind and made my success possible. 

Even though the job sometimes would feel too much, I always knew I had the support from my supervisors. We were very close and they were very understanding towards my needs and the reality of the job. 
Typically, I did not have a hard time at work, even though it might be seen as busy.

There was far too much political jockeying amongst the management levels. Co-workers were occasionally pitted against one another without even knowing it. The work-life balance is great and there are a lot of good people here. The work itself is rewarding and not overly taxing. Just be aware that the chopping block could be lurking around the corner at any time.
