I worked at Lifestyle Options as a HCA prior to becoming a nurse. I appreciated the fact that the company prides themselves on being leaders and innovators in caring for the client with dementia. They focus on best practices and are resident centred. The organization is family owned and run. While some might seek out a union based work environment, I felt valued, supported, and encouraged to grow professionally in this environment. I saw many benefits to the more personalized dynamic. There were opportunities to learn, contribute, and be a part of a seasoned team of professionals who have been employed by the company for many years. I returned to Life Style Options sites during another role that I was in professionally, in a nursing/leadership capacity. I witnessed the management team working alongside the team and residents, providing exceptional care and services. I continue to recommend this employer to people looking for a positive work experience and friends who are looking for a home and supportive care environment for loved ones.

In a typical work day I receive reports, deal with resident's health concerns, process Dr.'s orders, perform nursing assessments, promote healthy working environment for health care staff, report and document, along with over seeing staffing.
I have learn to work successfully with people regardless of their background or culture.
The Management team is very supportive and allows room for critical thinking and skill growth. Across the different departments we network and support to provide a pleasant working environment that shows once you enter the building.
The hardest part of the job is sometimes getting the multidisciplinary 
group to work together for greater interest of the resident.
I love working with seniors and would attribute this as being the most employable part of my job.

Upper management is micromanaging the sites from a business standpoint when they should be focusing on the care and happiness of the seniors and staff. Site staff make the company money and get nothing in return. They took certain stat holidays away, don’t provide sick pay and the 25 cent raises every year definitely doesn’t cover the bills. 

If you’re looking for an employer that will provide support, don’t work here. If you’re looking to advance within the company, don’t work here. If you’re looking for an employer that will listen to your concerns and work hard to provide positive solutions, don’t work here. Lifestyle Options is a mess. And until something is done with their upper management it will continue to be a mess. 

If you are a people person, this is a good place to work.  Residents are great (there are only few who are naturally grumpy and demanding) like any other facilities.  Work is at times heavy and at times easy and it depends on your attitude how you handle stress.  Staff are generally nice and helpful.  It all depends on
how you fit in as a team.  Management is not the best but can be approached anytime.  Paywise, it is quite low compared to other facilities.  Easy schedule as you can arrange for workmate to pick up shift if you really need to take time off but no work, no pay after taking your PTO during the year.  Also it is advisable to have two jobs so you can be enjoy Lifestyle easy workplace environment thus flexible and earn the most. Just don't be caught in work stress and having a positive attitude.

By being flexible and available for any shift, especially short notice, you can attain job security. Management has an open door policy, and looks at the facts before making decisions. You will get along with everyone but know that there  will be days when there will be friction. Be open and honest and be willing to communicate. The hardest part of the job is getting too attached to the residents and then they pass away or need to move to higher care. Our residents interactions on a daily basis make my day.

Worst place I have worked in in 20 years in food service. Ownership is out of touch and family run business is embarrassingly incompetent.
They keep numbers and most of the inner workings very secret because there are some shifty business practices occurring and by the turn around in the departments I should have known its a horrible place to stay but I am stubborn. Waste of months of my career working for these idiots and its sad to see Covid expose the low level of care they had before and during this towards Seniors. Lifestyle options is a vote for government stepping in and sorting out the Seniors Care industry.

Minimal stress biggest stressor was the demands of the residents

Overall it was good, although there is a disconnect from high up management and not a lot of care is put into overseeing the recreation department

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Day is not too crazy. The usual emails and paperwork and programs

I do not recommend working at Lifestyle Options. Unfortunately, my experience there was highly disappointing. The organization prioritizes profits over staff well-being, safety, and quality care. There is little to no investment in employee development, and the workplace environment lacks support and respect for its team members.

If you're seeking a positive and growth-oriented workplace, this is not the place to gain valuable experience or feel valued as an employee. I strongly advise others to carefully consider their options before joining this organization.

They do not care about the residents, they are just a number. Departments fighting with each other constantly, it is run on a corporate level with nepotism and unprofessionalism. Managers are great people but when the company treats staff and residents like numbers it doesn't make for a great work environment. They couldn't even take the time to get our names right at the service awards. Bunch of old out of touch white people running a company with diversified workers. Bottom of the barrel seniors care in Edmonton and they expect us to serve food. I did not go to school to serve food.

Consider it’s a high end facility and the residents pay thousands of dollars a month for rent, let alone food and care on top of that. The facility cut costs any chance they get, especially paying their staff… lucky to get $16 with plenty of experience. Management can be good if you don’t expect too much, and keep to yourself. It seems like a friendly atmosphere but having of been there working different positions for over a year you find out it’s really all a front and people try to make it as positive as could be.
