Little House Residential Care Services Inc.

I worked at Little house for 3 and a half years and I have nothing but great things to say. 
Each house had a flat screen tv, the kids are involved in a lot of activities. The upkeep of the houses is good considering when I was there there would often be damage done by one of the children. 
Every summer the kids were involved in summer camp and we would also do family camping. 
 Each week there was trainings and I know there had been an issue with gossip but the owners were very passionate about putting that to an end. 
Also the schedule would change but that was only because they were a little too nice when it came to changing the schedule to help the workers. For example I could recall a few of my coworkers getting time off last minute for trips or family emergencies so that would put a little strain on the rest of us but it works in your favour if you have an emergency haha. 

I fell in love with the job because of the kids. The reality of the job is that these are not perfect children. But can say that this organization is based on the needs of the kids. The administration is VERY organized and VERY accommodating. I called them one time at 11 at night because I was having an issue with one of the kids and they came and stayed talking the child down and making sure the staff were okay for over 2 hours. I have never worked somewhere where the administration was that hands on.

The staff that work there are amazing and management tries their very best to be as accommodating with your schedule as possible but it is understandable when the home is understaffed. When there's an issue and you call the managers they will be there to support you 100% sometimes its undermining the staff but they try. The adult home was very stressful not feeling like behaviors were being properly dealt with because of the inconsistencies of staff members ( which means nothing can be accomplished). It was hard to accommodate meaningful activities with the kids in the home as their schedules were so different and with only one staff member in the house I just felt I was driving around all day. For the most part the relationships you build with the residents is very meaningful, they are very sweet kids probably the hardest part of leaving was the kids in the home, just unfortunate you don't get paid nearly enough for the amount of work and effort you put in.

Felt like there was no time to yourself to just destress as compared to the other homes when the children were at school. For being paid daily for 8 hours, it was enough to live when your living at home and just getting by paying bills. 


My experience of working for Little House Southwest Region Kingsville was good, I learned so much from working there. For me it was about the children to make a difference in their life, to make it as much of a home for them as we could  a place where they felt loved, safe  and excepted.  It was a great  experience to learn how each child was unique and special in their own way and how each child had different needs,  then learning how to work with each child, what triggered, motivated, encouraged and discouraged them then to see them grow and mature. I liked the different variety that came with this job like taking children to appointments, shopping and  activities. Then there was cleaning, laundry, cooking and baking so if you didn't know how to do those things you learn how to do them.
Lots of time off and you could plan your vacation and they worked with you  to make it work.
I work there long distance, so I missed out on a lot of the social life when I was on days on.

As a direct care worker in a treatment foster home my role was to support foster parents in caring for children with complex and challenging behavioral needs. I assisted in all aspects of the day to day care of residents such as helping children get ready for school, assisting with homework, cooking, cleaning, supervising and spending quality time with children, administering medication, attending medical appointments, and writing daily logs and plans of care. Providing emotional support, resolving conflict and assisting people in crisis are also crucial parts of this job. Thankfully, Little House provides ongoing crisis prevention and intervention training which is invaluable. Working for Little House can be stressful and challenging work but it is worth it to see the difference you have made in the children's lives.

Working here has been a meaningful experience. The children are well cared for, especially when you consider the difficult circumstances many of them have come from. It's incredible to see how much they can grow, excel, and even thrive when they feel safe and supported.

The staff genuinely care and do their best every day, often going above and beyond to meet the kids' needs emotionally and practically. It’s not always easy, but it’s fulfilling.

Management has also been very understanding and accommodating, particularly when it comes to time off or personal needs. They work with you, not against you, and that makes a big difference in a field that can be emotionally demanding. It's also very nice that they added a night staff so that live in staff now are able to sleep uninterrupted through the night. Overall, I’m grateful to be part of a team that makes a real impact.

I found the bosses to be very accommodating in terms of scheduling. Sure sometimes the schedule is very last minute but the bosses do what they can to accommodate your schedule
the children are very loveable, some being more difficult than others.
Sometimes I would have to clean more when starting a shift, but I had some issues with relief staff and they were not the cleanest of people. 
the benefits were good, was able to get several massages that were 100% covered. 
The children told me that they all went to Disney World and Universal of last year and a co worker also mentioned they had just had several children on a cruise last year. 
sure the pay can be better...much better, bosses have told us they have been working hard with the government to give higher wages. 
but when the kids are in school and there are no appointments you literally have that whole day. but sometimes it can be hectic


Management stops by at meal time unannounced and it is very disruptive to the children's schedule.

Expects house parents to do home repairs that go above and beyond regular maintenance.

Staff all seem very uneasy around senior staff and management.

Senior and longtime staff talk about any newcomers right in front of them and also deny doing so, makes for an uncomfortable working environment.

There seems to be an 'us and them' mentality with regards to others.

The children are amazing and it is unfortunate that there  is a high turnover in staffing supports and there are understaffing concerns.

You are required to complete a home and historical study of your life so they can get to know you, this information may in fact be brought up at a later date. 


Working at Little House was put in my life at the right time. I loved the relationships I developed with the kids and staff, who became like family during my time there and after. The job itself is a combination of housework (doing laundry/helping the older kids with theirs, cooking and cleaning up for meals, everything that helps a house run), running kids to appointments or extra curricular activities, and documenting the children’s days and medications. It is good to have patience, compassion/empathy, and a general knowledge of child guidance as sometimes complex scenarios come up as is expected in a foster home. Supervisors have experience, were flexible, available, and stepped in as extra support as needed.

Great experience and support. 
I got along with most of the workers, would be awful if you didn't though because it is a live in position.
time on was always better when the work load is shared with co workers, you're taking care of a home and it's property as well as the children so it's important to have life skills like cooking and money management and cleanliness and to also be able to take care of the children.

overall great children based company

Funded for house parents and two staff at each house but pay one employee for all 4 jobs at 1 staff rate.  Terrible benefits, don't even have vision coverage and the kids can break glasses very easily. Only paid for 12 hours when they are there 24 and don't even get 8 hours sleep as they are woken through the night.  Pay works out to about 6/hr. and still have to pay room and board out of that.  Cannot ever move out on their own as they could not afford it.
