Living Rock Ministries

A regular day at The Living Rock starts out with the breakfast program where teenagers can come in the morning to eat. Once all the teens have left when the program is over (9:30am), the youth who are involved with Rock Resources stay and clean. My tasks vary. Once I'm done with the janitorial duties, I would either help out preparing food in the kitchen with the kitchen staff, assist with the person working in the front reception office, stock shelves in the food bank, or do minor tasks in the admin office (stapling booklets, printing, folding flyers and brochures). I love the support I receive from the staff, they really know how to comfort a youth. The hardest part of this job, I would say, would be cleaning the washrooms. They can get really nasty at some points, especially the toilets and the garbage. But someone needs to do it. The Living Rock also provides what we call "Gathering" program. If you are one with the Lord and want to express your beliefs with in, Gathering would for sure take it in and listen to what you have to say. We also have a prayer room for those who are in need of advice and to get a prayer off their minds.

The best part of this job are the clients. All the youth are extremely helpful and appreciative of all the Living Rock services. The staff are also very good, especially Cindy (weekend staff) and Stacey (food Bank coordinator) The Living Rock Ministries offers a fun work environment, however because it is a non-profit, sometimes money is put into programs that is never compensated. There is also an insecurity when it comes to positions, because if there is a lack of funding your job could be at stake. Although an absolutely wonderful organization, it's a shame that there isn't more stability with full time staff and more budgeting for better wages. Overall, great dynamic, helpful and accommodating staff with great personalities. Living Rock will always be a favorite for me as a part time position.

The Living Rock Ministries Tri-Rock program was a 2 stage program where for the first half you perform various chores at their main building (Cleaning, cooking, laundry) and the second half for a few months they reimburse someone hiring you for a few months making it incredibly easy to get your foot in the door for a job.

The Hardest part of the job will likely be working in the kitchen if you have never done so before but once you know the basics that they teach you in the kitchen you will be perfectly fine.

As part of my placement in the field of Social Service Worker, my days at Living Rock Ministries were never the same. I was able to truly connect with youths on many levels. Part of my duties included completing intakes and case notes as well as the odd incident reports. I worked in their food bank, participated in the breakfast, evening programs and contributed to preparation of the food. Living Rock was such a great experience that I have return as a volunteer 3 days a week.

Living Rock is the definition of working "hands-on" with the youth. The staff members are all wonderful and it is evident that everyone is there to make a difference in the youth's lives.The most enjoyable part is seeing the difference a kind word, or a smile, makes in a youth's life. Living Rock is their comfort zone and a place where they feel a sense of worth and belonging and I am grateful to be a part of such an amazing agency, doing incredible things, for an often overlooked population.

A christian based organization who helps youth get job opportunities by allowing them to work through placement programs on site and in the community. They are a very useful resource for youth in Hamilton Ontario. Working with the staff  there was a very pleasant and enjoyable experience.

Living Rock is a wonderful place to volunteer and I am sure it is a wonderful place to work as well. I have learned in my few months as a volunteer, about many community resources as well as program resources available at the Living Rock. The staff at Living Rock is welcoming and friendly and inclusive to all.

I worked here as part of my volunteer placement. While working there I have learned so many different things. I mostly enjoyed my time there alot. I strongly feel that this place truly benefits those who are in need of such services.

Absolutely wonderful. Everyone was terrific. It was a great chance to help street-involved youth and I certainly learned a lot from working there.

A drop in center where i had the opportunity to learn basic but yet very important skills like, cooperating with the youths, ran little errands here and there for the organization took part in stacking the shelves whenever we get new donations.
