Local 488

Well there is no typical day at work when your a pipe fitter. One dar could consist of rigging for the morning to working with a welder in the afternoon the pressure testing the day after. I learned to work independently and with others as a team. Management is different on every job. The hardest part of the job is putting spools in a rack that is already full of pipe without touching any other pipe so you don’t wreck the insulation on them. The most enjoyable part was the great people I got to work with.

Workers seam worried about when the the job will end and if they will have another job to go to. I have learned over the years not to worry about things that you are not able to control. The benefits are good. A typical day of work includes receiving a permit, reviewing the task, filling out JSA, and start card. Completing task of fitting and welding pipe in position in a live Plant.

A typical day at work starts with a tool box talk and stretching. Then work tasks are assigned. Forms are filled to access possible dangers and hoe to mitigate them. Then you gather tools and equipment for the task and begin when it is safe to do so.

I have enjoyed my many years as a tradesman out of Local 488. A great organization for their membership. Their welding shop and training facilities are second to none and very reasonably priced.

At this job I experienced a lot of industrial work in refineries. Opened up many possibilities for advancement. Top of the line training for welding and other safety tickets.

Can't speak anymore highly of it. The place everyone should work. I went to school to see what I was capable of. Miss ever second of it since I left what else is there to say

i started from the bottom and earned my jm steamfitter the life i enjoy. I have worked away from my bed all my life. i am ready to sleep in my own bed. or at least try it out!

My review is there good to work for, over when economy is good they have lots of work. Very skilled trained professionals work there who for. The most part are will in ng to teach you Ger guys the right way to. Get jobs done.
