Working for the school board has been an incredibly positive experience. From the very beginning, I have felt supported and valued as an employee.

One of the things I appreciate most about working for the school board is the emphasis on professional development. There are always opportunities to learn new skills, attend conferences and workshops, and collaborate with colleagues. This not only helps me grow as an individual, but also improves the quality of education for students.

The school board also prioritizes work-life balance, which is especially important in a field that can be demanding. Flexible schedules, generous vacation time, and supportive management make it easy to find a healthy balance between work and personal life.

Furthermore, the school board's commitment to diversity and inclusivity is evident in every aspect of the organization. There are ongoing efforts to create a welcoming and supportive environment for all students, staff, and community members. This creates a sense of pride and purpose in the work we do.

Finally, the school board is a place where ideas are welcomed and innovation is encouraged. There is a culture of creativity and collaboration, where everyone's voice is heard and respected. This makes it an exciting and fulfilling place to work.

Overall, I highly recommend working for the school board to anyone interested in education. It is a supportive, inclusive, and innovative workplace that truly values its employees.

I chose to teach music education at the Junior/Intermediate level because there was flexibility. There was a basic curriculum to follow, but I was given permission by the principal to add to the program.  It gave me great pleasure to be able to modify the curriculum to accommodate gifted and special needs students.  I enjoyed adding pieces from contemporary movies, top 40 and old jazz standards to keep my students motivated and interested in practising their instruments.
    The teachers were very supportive of my ideas and we collaborated well on all levels. Some principals were more strict than others but we managed to convince them by showing the support of the students, parents and other teachers. The school recitals displayed the wonderful end result of students who enjoyed contemporary music mixed in with their regular curriculum. The flexibility of selecting contemporary music, with the collaboration and teamwork of management, teachers, students and parents displayed a 100% increase in the motivation of all my music students, in all grade levels.

   I sincerely enjoyed my placement as a music teacher with the London District Catholic School Board.  I  am presently teaching private music lessons in North London, Ontario but I really miss the wonderful music teaching career that I had with the London Catholic School Board.

My 33 years working for the Catholic School Board were the best years of my life.  I met and worked with so many wonderful people, and formed lifelong friendships.  Sorrounded by the greatest people, I got through the worst times of my life and enjoyed even more of the best times.  I loved every aspect of my job and would not have traded it for any other career in the world.  

This board is likely not much different than others when it comes to being an EA. Violence and aggression on a daily basis. Not enough staff, not enough backup, lack of support from admin. 

It takes years to get hired permanent, and if you get injured by a student when you're a casual staff, prepare to be treated badly by occupational health and safety. They refused to meet the accomodations outlined by my healthcare team, on the basis of me being a casual employee. It's not worth it to risk your health for an employer who doesn't have your back. 

LDCSB is a fun, collaborative and engaging place to work.  It challenges you to get creative and working as a team is crucial to success. The work environment is supportive as is the administration team.  This is a place that wants it's employees to succeed at being the best you can be. The pay is reasonable and work/ life balance is too.  The work day can be fast passed and challenging but you learn a lot and the best part of the job is inspiring our children with confidence, faith and great educational resources to help them to succeed.

They pay looks good on paper, and the job is enjoyable with good coworkers, but factor in 2 months off in the summer, and unpaid holidays for March Break and 2 weeks at Christmas, and you will net about $24k in your first year. A part time-paying job for someone with a masters degree. Support workers are not paid well in the education sector. A librarian with a masters degree makes less than an EA will. 

Lots of marking with no paid marking time. No benefits. No pension. You make 10 dollars less an hour than senior staff - forever due to some weird Job Evaluation thing that happened before I got there. It's a great job if you can put up the demands on your private life. If you go full time at this job - you won't have one. The people are great, and it's a great place to start, but there are better options out there.

A typical day of work involved cleaning schools at night.

I did not lean any new skills.

My management was always very nice and accommodating to my needs and appointments.

There was not much of a culture because I usually worked alone.

The hardest part of the job was not knowing if or when I'de be working that day.

The best part of the job was seeing all the happy kids that always said hello in the halls.

Substitute teaching post-COVID is not for the faint of heart, but working as a Temporary Classroom Support Personnel (TCSP) is a decent paying gig that requires little preparation, great hours, and a lot of flexibility.

Note to the employer: Consider updating the program used to schedule substitute teachers. Needing to carve time out to take phone calls every morning/night isn't ideal for employees. An online platform would likely be more effective.

Camp BLAST was a 3-week contract program in which students grades 2-5 got to come back to school for the summer if they needed extra help. Although this was my only experience with children I feel like it taught me so much. I was the recreational leader, so I was responsible for leading the games at recess and any other activities within the program. It was so much fun and I absolutely loved going to work every day.
