This was one of the most frustrating workplaces I have experienced. The environment often felt focused on internal priorities rather than supporting frontline staff in delivering quality services.

Workloads were difficult to manage due to staffing shortages, scheduling challenges, and limited time for preparation and cleanup between sessions. Employees were frequently expected to do more with less, which contributed to burnout and high turnover.

Communication from management was often inconsistent. Concerns raised by staff were not always addressed in a timely manner, and follow-up was frequently required to obtain responses or guidance.

I also found the workplace culture challenging. Professional communication was not always maintained, and I experienced situations where employees were spoken about in a disrespectful manner. This contributed to a work environment that felt unsupportive and discouraging.

There appeared to be a disconnect between management and frontline employees. Staff feedback was not consistently acknowledged, and many employees felt uncomfortable raising concerns about workload, programming, or service delivery.

Frequent operational pressures and performance targets created additional stress for staff. Overall, I found the workplace culture to be characterized by poor communication, low morale, high turnover, and limited respect for frontline employees.

This is easily one of the most toxic workplaces I have experienced. The biggest issue is management, which appears to thrive on gossip, favoritism, and micromanagement rather than actually supporting staff or leading effectively.

Employees are constantly scrutinized and treated as though they cannot be trusted to do their jobs. Every minor detail is monitored, questioned, and criticized, creating an environment where people feel stressed, undervalued, and afraid to make even small decisions without approval.

What is particularly disappointing is the lack of professionalism from leadership. Management frequently discusses employees behind their backs, spreads workplace gossip, and contributes to unnecessary drama rather than addressing issues directly and respectfully. It is difficult to feel supported by leaders who participate in the very behaviour they should be discouraging.

Staff morale is low, turnover is high, and concerns raised by employees are often ignored or dismissed. Instead of fostering a positive workplace culture, management creates an atmosphere of distrust, anxiety, and constant tension.

Unless significant changes are made to the leadership team and workplace culture, I would not recommend this organization to anyone seeking a healthy, respectful, or professionally managed work environment.

This role offers a wide scope of responsibilities that go beyond traditional psychotherapy. In addition to providing therapy and completing case documentation, the position involves intake, care coordination, administrative tasks, inter-agency collaboration, crisis response, and supporting clients with housing, employment, and system navigation.

The team is highly compassionate, skilled, and committed to client care. There is a strong sense of collaboration, and colleagues are supportive of one another. The role also provides a high level of autonomy, allowing clinicians to develop their own approach and grow professionally.

Due to the breadth of responsibilities, the workload can be demanding at times, and strong time management and boundary-setting skills are important. It can be a valuable experience for those looking to build a wide range of skills in community mental health.

History:
This company was the amalgamation of 5 of the greatest child youth and family mental health organizations in the GTA.  They combined, management got greedy and no one wanted to give up their jobs. So they cut programs, then they cut staff, and finally the compassionate managers were ousted by those who play politics.



I've enjoyed my time at Lumenus mainly due to co workers and the amount that I have learned. 
Unfortunately, there is not much room for advancement. The pay is below market value. There is a very high staff turn over rate. Keeping that in mind, many staff bare the weight of previous staff's work with little to no recognition and absolutely no increase in pay to match the increase in work load / expectation. 
Minimal communication between departments, creating difficulties for facilities as a whole. 
Lack of accountability. Each department will advise staff to ask another department when there is a question with no real answer. 
Could be a great working environment if staff needs were met & staff voices were heard.

- read the contract carefully before you accept a job here. It will give you clues as to how you might be treated later 

As a young person, Lumenus has been a great place to work- I've received great supervision, benefits, and paid time off. However, there has been a ton of turnover, especially in upper management/director positions. Some staff are not receiving the necessary direction and management supports that they require, so they often get away with putting little effort into their work, which is frustrating for other staff and for families. But overall, most staff are friendly/approachable and do good work. Salaries are not amazing compared to other Autism organizations, but if you're on the younger side its not bad. 

Ultimately, most of my complaints are systematic. Everyone who works there is super lovely. My manager gave me very clear direction and helped me take sick leave when I was obviously struggling mentally.

The pay… a joke. The stress… not a joke. 

As admin, you aren’t given the skills to professionally work with people who are distressed. Why? No one thought to give it to you. 

Uuuhhhh work with them if you have a clear idea of how Lumenus can be a “stepping stone”. From what I heard from social workers, this isn’t the company to depend on for years

When i was first hired it was great, a mess but doable mess. 
Lots of gossip, and drama. unhealthy clics. people wont help others if need. hires unqualified managers. 
people who interviewed me didnt even look at my resume or know the pay. 
pay doesnt matter on your qualifications, everyone starts at level 1. 
no pay raise due to them not making money 
not great place to work 


The pay and benefits were the only positive part of working at Lumenus. The management is terrible! they allow for bad behavior from employees to continue, they allow a lot of gossip to happen, they don't care if employees are put in unsafe environments and the list goes on. Advancing in Lumenus is also very difficult.
