Lyft Drivers

I have been driving for Lyft for about a year now, and I can say you will make LESS than the mandated minimum wage here in Ontario. They are aware of this, but do NOT care for the drivers. If you do not believe me, be my guest and try it out for yourself. Once you deduct all expenses and collected HST, your take home is less than minimum. 

Another reason I am very furious right now as I am writing this today I completed a ride that the toll fee alone was $15. I DID NOT GET PAID FOR THE TOLL!!! I contacted driver support, and they stated that yes they see this and they are not sure why I was not paid the toll. As for paying me back, they stated another department is in charge of that but THEY CANNOT BE CONTACTED BY PHONE ONLY EMAIL!! This is ridiculous, we already get paid less than minimum wage and they are not even paying us for the service I provided! I can't even speak to them, only via email!!!!

I began working with Lyft hoping it would be a good side hustle. Unfortunately, the reality has been quite different. I often find myself spending more time waiting for ride requests than actually driving and earning. While the income helps cover a few bills here and there, it’s far from meaningful.

One of the biggest issues is market saturation. Lyft continues to onboard more and more drivers, which just spreads the already limited ride demand even thinner.

The job does have a few bright spots. I’ve had the chance to meet some really interesting people, and the occasional bonus hours can be a nice perk. But overall, it’s tough to make a decent living doing this unless you're in a high-demand area or working only during peak times.

A typical day at Lyft Visual is where I would come in on time, be taught and then instructed to perform tasks (packaging, using the tape machine, cleaning) and meeting quotas (10 boxes of pamphlets, vinyl rolls must be packed by the end of the day).

This was a temporary job where I would be called in on and off throughout a 4 month period.

The most enjoyable part of the job would be the friendliness of the co-workers and supervisor.

The hardest part of the job would be remembering how to operate the tape machine after packaging for most of the time but I still managed to remember and was able to perform my task effectively.

Great company to work for, flexible work hours, good support staff, great bonuses and lots more flexibility that allows you to have a good work/life balance. 
The only downside is the company commission is a little high (30%) and the per km rate is a little low (0.80c/km).
Since one is an independent contractor there's also really not much room for growth. But this is a great side hussle good for side income. 
Not recommended as a full-time job since the weekly income isn't consistent and varies depending on the season and time of the year with times being extremely slow and at times being very busy.

I started working for Lyft with hopes of doing this full time. As it turns out, I spend more time waiting for ride requests than actually driving and earning. It’s good to pay a few bills but there’s no way this is sustainable unless spending the full 12 hours a day of driving time allotted. Only benefits really is meeting interesting people and the occasional bonus hour. I wish they’d stop hiring drivers though, maybe then the ones already signed up could earn the decent living that’s advertised. 

Meet people from around the world. Many good,some rude, some dangerous! Can be fun during nice weather and good traffic. Terrible during bad weather, bad traffic or drunk or nasty passengers! Lyft is a ripoff! Lyft takes up to 50% of your commission! Lyft will try to send you on the worst trips possible so you waste more gas and make no money! Very low pay! Expensive gas, high mileage. No minimum wage no benefits! You oay for everything plus taxes!!!

Long hours, low pay.  After covering operating expenses (fuel, maintenance etc), the earnings fall below minimum wage.  There are too many drivers on the road.  After a couple anonymous complaints or false accusations from riders, the company will deactivate you even though you have completed thousands of rides with a five-star rating - all without even telling you any specific details about the "alleged misconduct".  Would not recommend this company to anyone.  

The hourly rate is great, and I have done more than 5000 trips and had no issues with passangers, but the ware on your car adds up.  I lost my job recently and tried to do this FT, and it is fun, but busy times are spread out and wear on your car sneaks up on you.  Every time I feel like I am getting ahead, it puts me right back.

I don’t recommend any ride sharing company because they don’t care about the drivers. They’re all the same, that be Lyft or Uber or others. 

The o my good side is that it gives you amazing work/life balance. But it does start getting tedious giving those short rides. 

If you don’t have others skills then get a hybrid car and keep you head down. Otherwise find something else.  

Go away from this company! Drivers are not paid fairly for trips! No support for drivers. It is impossible to get fair decisions from the support team. The application is not designed to help you in this situation. Communicating with the application bot does not solve the problem. The cost of a trip for drivers is so miserable that sometimes you have to waste time on a trip with this company.
