I have been with Medavie Blue Cross for less than five but more than 2 years, and i have strong feelings about the contact center. 

Although it is more money than I have made at other jobs, the amount of workload that is expected out of the CSRs is too much, and then you hear about how the pay is far below industry standards. 

They go on and on about MENTAL HEALTH! But the job itself and what is required of you will destroy your mental health. Worst of all, you can't vent to any co-workers/management/senior agents because you are only supposed to love every aspect of the job and hate nothing. The call volume is non-stop, and adherence is hard to keep when you have zero time to breathe. 

You are given 8 sick days, but if you go past 3 or 4, you will be considered a problem employee. They really shove it down your throat that being present on the phone is important above all else. They send metrics emails daily along with everyone else's numbers (adherence, number of calls taken, not ready aux) so in case you are having a hard time in life, you can start obsessing about how much worse you may be compared to other complete robots you work with who have perfect numbers all the time.

The team leads are all over the place. I have had 3 team leads in a matter of 2 years. 2 of them micromanage a lot and only reach out to you to provide criticism, and the other one didn't check in about anything and didn't respond to any emails I sent them about anything. 

If you have to go into a Not Ready code to breathe and take a break from talking non-stop for a bit, withing 3 mins you will have between 1-4 team leads messaging you to see what the problem is. Although everyone is on a "team", because a lot of us work remotely and there is such a high turnover rate, we never get to know anyone on our team except for seeing their names listed in the call taking software. There are no "Get to know your team" meetings, no "let's check in on each other" meetings. No time for any breathers or casual time. It's basically work work work work, take your 2 15s and 30 min lunch and work work work work then log off or by all means! Do overtime and work even more! 

No one tries to get to know anyone here, no one can vent if they are having a hard day, I wouldn't dare bring up my mental health issues to my manager because I am sure they would just say "well no one else seems to be having problems". I have heard of people here trying to go on stress leave and then being fired immediately upon returning.

Here are the good things : steady pay, a chance to work at home, company paid benefits, raises, weekends and holidays off.

But there are no real incentives, you can't take a sick day without worrying if you will get in trouble or be made to feel guilty because some of the robots were able to work non-stop through having covid/death in the family, etc, no emotional connection or commradery with anyone, no Christmas party or meal, 



I badly wish I could go on stress leave because it takes every bit of mental strength I have to log on daily.

I got laid off from an IT job I had for nearly 10 years which is what prompted me to try this job and I had really high hopes. But the job is so taxing on the brain and feeling like you are constantly getting scrutinized because you aren't taking close to 100 calls in one shift or you aren't above 90 for your metrics every minute is so hard on one's mind. Pay us a lot more money because we are all working far to hard for far too little. We also need more recognition and positive encouragement. Allow people to use their sick time because why advertise 8 days when you actually mean 3? 

Just by comparison, the IT company I worked for gave 10 sick/personal days that you could use however and whenever you wanted, and only after those 10 days were used up did you start getting penalized for still calling in for those that did.

My spouse drives for Halifax Transit and they earn sick time like they do vacation time. I know this model wouldn't work for a call center but just using it as an example.

Maybe if I move to a different department things will improve but the contact center will take every bit of your mental strength and wreak havoc on your mental health.



Getting close to my one year at the contact centre. It is pretty intense being in the call center, you need to be knowledgeable in a broad range of company policies. It’s a lot to learn and no time to read over the material in between calls.  As much as my trainers prepared me with all the tools to succeed. In reality training starts the first day you start taking calls.
You learn a lot from trial and error.

When you work remotely and you have a question, you need to reach out to our MES department, you may need to wait on hold for a bit before they can help you. They are all very professional and knowledgeable.
They finally opened a chat for questions, the response time is quick and the process is less intimidating.

 This is a small price to pay for the convenience and opportunity to work remotely.
The company encourages you to come in and work from the office anytime if you need extra support.

My Team Leader is amazing and and super supportive. I agree working at the call Center can be very stressful but once you have been there for 1 year and your quality Scores are minimum 85% you can start thinking about moving on to another position outside of the call center.
I am excited for future opportunities and creating a career path here at Medavie.
 All my co-workers are genuinely good people.
It also a great feeling helping members everyday with such important issues.

First job out of college, they are a not-for-profit organisation which puts an emphasis on work life balance, benefits and community support. They would donate 8-12% of annual profits back to the community while recyling the rest back into the company.
Pay was lower than what would be normal in the industry but benefits would far outweigh the difference especially for families.
My management and co-workers were all very welcoming and friendly. The atmosphere very relaxed and low supervision. 
My work was application, security and data intergrity support. Although the applications/system was becoming obsolete, they one of the largest IT teams in all of the atlantic and were working hard on keeping up with the competition. 
The company offered amazing benefits and products for the value of the customer.
Company has been voted in the top 10 best employers in Canada. CEO was also very transparent and overall amazing man, would have annual update prensentations company wide.
The company, although containing over well over 900 employees in Moncton alone would also do things like pay for annual BBQ, Thanksgiving supper and Christmas Party at the Casino.

My two years with the contact center were awful. Unless you have been there for 5+ years you will be stuck on a late shift, don’t listen when they say otherwise. They will also change your shifts without discussing it with you, work life balance is NOT something they care about. You will be expected to help customers with things you are not trained on and management couldn’t be bothered to take you off the phone for 1 hour to give you proper training on all the new things being thrown at you. Even though they give you sick days, you will be in trouble for using even one. The bonus structure has always been unrealistic but after changes made in the summer, it is now completely unobtainable, unless you are a robot. My mental health has never been worse in my life than when I worked here and many of my coworkers were feeling the same way. You are also not allowed to apply for other jobs within the company, and if you do your resume will not be considered. I have heard wonderful things about working in other departments but I absolutely do not recommend applying for a job in the contact center.

Thought this was going to be my last job. Turns out they changed their mind about it and decided to let me go without any notice or warning. No explanation, HR has zero empathy. Manager couldn’t even look at me while firing me, and left the video meeting after his one sentence was said. They shut down my computers WHILE I was having the meeting with HR, which was frankly a huge slap in the face. My team was great, I had amazing coworkers, super supportive. More helpful than management, that’s for sure. They have a history of firing people without notice for no reason, as it happened to a couple of my coworkers as well while I was there. Definitely two-faced, they force you to travel for team-building events when this is a remote job. They give you a lot of sick hours but they actually don’t want you to use it all, you get a written warning that you’re only supposed to use 4-5 max during 12 months. Feels like a love bombing toxic relationship, they give you gifts and goodies and then kick you to the curb. All in all would not recommend. 

Was once a fun and challenging place to work, but that was oh so long ago…

If you hate yourself and would like almost guaranteed ptsd only to be put off work and forgotten about by your employer. This is the place for you.  

If you enjoy working long hours, missing special occasions and holidays with your family. This is the place for you.

If you enjoy working a permanent full time position while getting denied vacation and bank time off requests because your employer lets their casual and temporary employees make their own schedule.  This is the place for you.

If you like having great health care benefits only to be threatened to have them removed by your employer likely when you most need them.  This is the place for you.

If you like taking pride in committing half your lifetime to a profession only to have the standards for employment be basically erased for staffing purposes and be slowly and quietly replaced by a cheaper and more readily available option.  This is the place for you.

In short, if you  enjoy working in a toxic, life shortening and unappreciated environment. This is the place for you.

Started working there  as a claims representative processing health claims in a customer service role. I was in a branch office, staff were great the first few years, great morale and a positive working environment. As the years went on salary increases were minimal, very little chance for career advancement and staff morale seemed to go down. Staff in branches located in other provinces were often paid higher for doing the same job. We were told this by management and explained the reasons were the higher cost of living say in Ontario. Work demands were also always increasing year over year. If you processed a required number of claims it was certain to increase the next year to a point that was unattainable to qualify for merit increase for salary. 

It is a great place to get claims experience, office experience, etc. But unless you are willing to move to Moncton, don't expect opportunities for growth.

The work was fairly consistent, which is good for those who like a steady workflow with few changes from day to day.  If you enjoy more variety in your work, this may not be the best job.
Lower management was very friendly and helpful, and one of the best things about the job. My superiors enabled me to effectively perform my duties without abandonment or micromanagement.
However, upper management seemed to evidence a comparative distaste for their employee safety. Although located in an area with numerous heavy winter storms, the company resisted cancellations or delays, even when employees were getting into major accidents getting to work. This led to numerous disgruntled employees.
Most of the coworkers are friendly, creating a comfortable environment to work in. However, the workplace need not be an overly social atmosphere for those who prefer to come into their desk and work quietly and depart.

Coworkers are very helpful, friendly and supportive. Management/team leads nitpick every little thing that they can to keep you from passing your probation period, and they will extend your probation period for any little thing. Not to mention, they can also put you back on probation if they think that you’re not “meeting expectations” - as mentioned above, they’re expectations are very high. 
They communicate everything via email, no matter how big or small news they are - totally unprofessional. 
You have a set amount of sick days per year, but you’re not really entitled to use them unless you can “prove” to them that you were “really” sick. No support from team leads or management here. They will shove the employee help line down your throat for any given reason.
