After starting there in 2022 (by the 3 month mark) issues started popping up one after another. Having to fight and barter for a day or 2 of PTO. By year one I had been pulling most of the weight, completing tasks neglected by other staff members, doing the things that any good manager should've addressed. Consistently tardy employees would not receive any reprimanding or consequences even when it was a clear safeguarding issue. After 2 years I had to beg for 2 weeks vacation because of burnout. An endless list of tasks to do with little to no help while also serving customers and constantly being under staffed and reprimanded by the store manager and the district manager for not having things up to standards. When the store numbers started to significantly decline (after a change of management twice) the district manager blamed me for the declining numbers since I was on the management team the longest (3 years compared to the less than 1 year of experience of both managers and the second store lead), accused of having a bad attitude when it was clearly due to being severely overworked, lack of recognition, no work life balance and doing almost  everything around the store for 3 and a half years. All I got in return of loyal service was blame for something that wasn't my fault, threatening of job security for the final 2 months, nothing but stress and the boot bit before my birthday. I would never recommend a place like this to anyone. 

I have worked with Moores for 5 years going on 6 in the new year. I was hired 2 months into my co-op program while I was in high school. The management teams are overall fair but they tend to differ between stores. I don't have issues with getting along with management because I understand everyone has their own managing style, so I cater to what works for that manager.

A typical day consists of putting away stock, assisting customers to guarantee they get a great shopping experience, and maintaining store tidiness. My co-workers at my current location are great people ,we're all around the same age so everyone is relatable. 

I just recently came back from maternity leave so that would be the hardest part of my job. Remembering the order of how the store runs would be the least of my worries, but being separated from your child is not something you want to get use to willingly.

My most enjoyable part of my job is knowing that I've fulfilled my customers needs. Whether it be fitting their suit, putting together a shirt and tie combination, or helping them with a gift. I love prom season the most because the colours and styles are a bit of a challenge but I always seize the right outfit for the right individual.

Working at Moores allowed a fantastic learning experience in a fast paced environment.  Having to deal with customer relations as well as with colleagues, created an on the job education in interpersonal skills and facilitated personal reflection and self growth.  A typical day at work would include administrative tasks such as till counts, communication with upper management and making sure customers would feel that the service they are receiving was nothing short of world class.  That meant going above and beyond to make sure that the customer not only got what they intended when they arrived at the store, but also leave with a sense of satisfaction so that their return to the store would not only be welcomed, but be an assurance.  The management was quite supportive and encouraged communication and commitment, while expecting a high standard in customer service.

At times the stores could be overwhelming during busy seasons, but with a team that works together to enable the best possible service, the days would be busy, but feel enjoyable and satisfying.

My coworkers are the best part of the job, including and especially my managers. They're encouraging, challenging, and genuinely awesome people. I wanted to apply to Moore's because of the amazing experience I had as a customer; as an employee, I can say that the culture does not change once you are on the inside (the store, anyway. Can't vouch for management life). 

It's a great job, if you are a student: flexible hours, good sales experience, and great discounts to update your wardrobe. Stay long enough, and you get to earn commission. Coming into the company after finishing university and without past sales experience, it's not quite as nice. It's tough to wait until you can be promoted to WC while earning minimum wage without full time hours. Extra hours will be needed elsewhere. That said, hard work and an eagerness to learn gets noticed.

All in all, it's a great place to work. You'll learn how to sell, learn how to dress better, and meet great people.

I learned over the years owning and operating my own salon very challenging and rewarding. I also became aware that if you provide great service to each individual and make them feel special they leave happy and will most importantly return for that same service and will support you, which  felt very rewarding. I had many experiences with co-workers being in the beauty industry I was able to help  guide the new up and coming in our industry. The hardest part of being in the beauty industry was to deal with the amount of focus and  quality workmanship that is involved to becoming A successful hairstylist I sometimes could see which individual was going to make it in the industry. The most enjoyable and rewarding part of being in the beauty industry was to be able to create A comfortable atmosphere and to bring peoples lives happiness by making them feel good in there own skin.

The work entails all the same work as any other retail shop, with the added bits of having to physically measure customers and dressing men who were unfamiliar with formal wear. For men, this is all done wearing a suit (picture it: taking out the trash, in a suit; vacuuming, in a suit; stocking product, in a suit), an outfit that could cost several weeks' pay and not built for easy care or physical labour.

I learned how to measure and fit men in formal wear: suits, shirts, and dress slacks. 

The team was very good at supporting each other with whatever task was at hand. We all got along very well.

The hardest part of the job was dealing with unreasonable customers. The most enjoyable part of the job was helping a customer find exactly what they were looking for and sharing their excitement.

Greeting customers and assisting sales staff in sales, preparing/receiving shipments, cashier duties, store clean up, tuxedo rental management, customer service. Very flexible with schedule, effective training program, competent management. Hardest part of job was tuxedo consultation (group fittings, proper measurements, inputting orders, cancelling/changing orders, reordering improperly measured rentals) as well as properly folding dress shirts. Best part of the job getting paid to wear a suit everyday and learning how to dress properly. All my other coworkers were extremely helpful in teaching/assisting me if I didn't know how to do something. Each sales staff work off their own commissions but it is still a very collaborative work environment. Gets quite busy end of april (grad season) and through the summer for wedding season. I couldn't have asked for a better first job.

CON'S first...

IF you can sell over $15,000 per week in clothing you will make it ok. If you are under this amount you will find it difficult to make a decent living without going pay cheque to pay cheque.

If you are a fan of the television show - Big Brother then you will LOVE the political game at this company. You can climb the corporate ladder quickly if you find yourself in the right clique. 

PRO'S second

Lots of room for growth and advancement. Great opportunity for somebody in College or University. Sometimes the Store Manager will provide coffee/donuts, lunches, dinners. They have in-house training for wardrobe consultant and sales associates.

The employee discount used to be 65% off merchandise. Now it is lowered to 55% off and sometimes the sale promotions are a better deal than the employee discount.

I hated this job. Like a lot of minimum waged jobs, you will be taken advantage of and not treated as well as you should be, by both customers and your superiors. No room for advancement. I was given a 20 cent an hour raise about 6 months into working there, and my workload almost doubled and I was micromanaged throughout my shifts. Worst thing I’d have to say though about this job is that your hours don’t mean anything. You’re scheduled until close? Expect to be there at least an hour longer just waiting for your manager to finish up because apparently you can’t leave until they do. You’re finally scheduled before close? Sorry, you need to stay longer because we’re too disorganized. My coworkers were all pretty kind and fun to work with though, but it didn’t make up for the poor work environment and management.
