A typical day involved unloading pallets of assorted rig freight from trucks, and then allocating the freight to it's designated rig area.
You check the packing slips against the item requisitions to make sure everything is there, and sign it. Once you have all the freight stacked on a pallet, you wrap it and label it so that it can be shipped out at the end of the week.

It's a fairly simple job, but requires an attention to detail, and ability to manage your time well, as everything runs on a fixed shipping schedule.

The people I worked with are what made the job enjoyable. We were able to have fun at work and it helped to get rid of the feeling of "the daily grind."
There are always events and activities going on. Pancake breakfasts, barbeques, free mugs and shirts and all sorts of things to express gratitude towards the employees.
But only until they decide it's not worth it.

Once the economy went into a downturn, Nabors began lay-offs and terminations and cutbacks on employee benefits. They would use any excuse to let someone go. There is no corporate loyalty, and if you are hired at Nabors, remember that you are nothing more than an interchangeable cog in their machine. If you do anything they don't like, you'll be thrown out. You are expected to praise the corporate dogma of the oil industry and swear your life to them, but any slight, however significant will see you cast out.

Nabors Drilling was a complete package as a career for me. If you have your skills and attitude in check or you just have a major desire to succeed this is an environment that each employee is given as you are given more than a chance to grow and expand. Advancement in the company is something that you desire and you are given the confidence and skills to actually learn and achieve at Nabors. There are really great benefits throughout my whole career there. The laughter in the building is infectious. The desire to help you do your position is what brings the building together. Management will go above and beyond to make sure your success in Nabors is achieved.  Show some initiative in your personal life and it flows through into your career. Loved my career there.

Nabors is a good company to work for, especially recently out of academia. Common for oil firms the work group is either very senior or very junior with minimal in-between. Nabors respects a work life balance, for those that would like to do their forty hours a week and clock out that is encouraged, for those that wish to put more in and get more out they're met with equal enthusiasm. My experience at Nabors was very much, you get what you give. 

Being a driller in the oil and gas sector in the US they are subject to relatively frequent layoffs due to market volatility.

This place of employment had so much potential until the economic downturn. I never felt pressured in my position, I was afforded the time needed to learn my role and become an active team member, they provided any required training and or advice to seek training. My Manager was always courteous, considerate, and very respectful. They would always communicate with their employee's keeping us informed on where the company stood with regards to safety and how we measured up within the world. I enjoyed the staff and management and miss working there.

A typical day at work would be sorting through skids and picking eoc local stock pieces for freight, asking the buyers to print rig papers and sort out rig numbers and freight, later in the week we would wrap up full skids and load the trucks later being sent to rigs.

What i learned most is how to complete a given job in a certain amount of time, be ethical, pay attention to detail and always ask as many questions as possible.

Day starts off with performing a job safety analysis. We then do a pre trip inspection on the equipment and drive out to location. Once on location we meet with the oil company representative and go over safety paper work and the daily objective. We work with multiple people each day. We perform lease inspections and identify all hazards on location before performing any duties. The toughest part of the job would probably be dealing with the changes in the scope of work and the daily changing weather conditions. The most enjoyable part of the day would be getting the job done safely and returning home to my family.

Working on a drilling rig is not easy work by any means but with Nabors you have the tools necessary to do your job and all the safety apparatus you need constantly inspected and logged. your career path is laid out ahead of you and you know what it is you need to learn to take the next step. You're out in the elements and away from family but if the crew you're on is any good everybody there recognizes you're in the same boat and work together to make whatever needs to happen happen!

Worked at Nabors for just over a year. After they built a new shop in another town, I found it difficult to commute. Received lots of team awards and recognition from my co-workers for taking the lead after my partner, was laid-up with broken ankle for 3 weeks. Hardest part of the job was working with men who thought 'a woman' had no business being in the warehouse. Decided to leave after the driving became too difficult and I wanted to finish my apprenticeship courses, which my supervisor did not approve of.

Daily reporting, P.M. and filing is completed and on time, rig moves and necessary permits in place. Ensure all crews are following company policies & procedures.
I learned how to coach and mentor crew members, while in a Managing role of personal & equip. 
No scheduling structure and not knowing when or where your next well would be. Although getting to see different parts of the country was challenging and exiting which made the job more enjoyable.

Travel and work international on all types of rigs. Working as specialist on rig electrical systems and top drive systems. Giving training to rig crew and maintenance crew in how to troubleshoot and repair rig equipment. I normally get send out to rigs that are experiencing problems and assist the rig in repairs and troubleshooting. Main focus is to reduce downtime and prevent problems from reacquiring with detailed reports and recommendations.
