Did I catch your attention with full stars captioned by "BEWARE!"? Awesome. I have formerly worked as an assistant manager in different companies. I joined this company as a part timer while attending school. Enough about my life story let's get to it.

You will find your typical work day to be typical and what you'd expect to do. Nothing you do task wise will be unfair or unjust. I love everyone who works there and it saddens me to may never see them again.

Here's why I say BEWARE:

1. Look at all the other reviews. Crazy how a cute français patisserie store could have such f a n t a s t i c reviews right? I won't say anything that's already been said or I feel is untrue or unfair. This is all from MY perspective and experience so use your judgement. From the date of this review everything that has been said in other reviews I can not say they are being unfair with their reviews.

2. Management likes to direct and actively seeks duties to fulfill while sitting in the back room with the door closed for more than half their shift. They will look for anything to say something to tell you to do something then go back to sitting in the back without notifying anybody. You'll find upper management coming into the store taking food out of the stock for their own consumption. This is done without notifying anybody, directly influencing our inventory counts for end of day procedures.

2.1. Dehumanizing and snobby attitude by upper management. I have addressed that I would like a pay raise as I discovered other employees were being paid more (full $1/h more) for less work. I ended up being well-rounded throughout the entire store from being a part time barista to store & bar lead. I even found myself begin to pick up managers' negligence. Upon asking for a very well reasoned and justified raise I was told by the CEO, "life is hard".

3. I missed a MANDATORY meeting due to school and I discovered that upper management said at the meeting behind my back that, "someone doesn't belong". This was after the fact that I was asked the question of, "are you happy?". Human to human, how do I answer that question? I was conflicted to say yes or no. I was surprised, confused and illprepared for such a profound question.

4. Here is why I feel like I was nothing more but a tool. A week prior to my employment termination, I was pulled aside by management asking what could be done to improve the store's functionality. Where focus needed to be. I extensively gave my opinion through my experience of years of management on how things could improve to sail smoothly. I was then fired right before my shift a week later. Apparently after they hired 6 new people and trained them to be able to handle closing shifts alone I was no longer needed and no longer fit in the company.

5. In the month of July there is a reason why 8-9 employees including 3 out of 4 management team quit. Refer to the "under appreciated reviews".

6. Management will react negatively and come up with excuses or reasons in response to any challenging remarks. You will get a ton of customer complaints about the food due to the quality inconsistency and negligence of the kitchen.

I am an employee who has been terminated without cause by Nadège Patisserie. Never have I been terminated before. Especially without cause or even a warning.

A Review of My Experience as an Employee

Working at nadege was one of the most emotionally draining experiences of my life. The environment was deeply toxic, characterized by emotional manipulation, rampant gossip, and a severe lack of professionalism. I often found myself reduced to tears on a weekly basis, overwhelmed by the stress and unfair treatment.

The pay was unreasonably low, and while tips were collected, they were distributed unfairly, creating resentment among staff. The lack of benefits further exacerbated the situation, leaving employees feeling undervalued and unsupported. Additionally, management frequently cut hours without warning, making it impossible to plan financially or maintain stability.

Sanitation standards were alarmingly poor, making the workspace not only stressful but also unsanitary. Training was inadequate, leaving employees ill-prepared and setting them up for failure. When issues arose, upper management was unhelpful and rude, often resorting to manipulative tactics rather than constructive solutions.

The lack of fairness and respect from upper management trickled down to every aspect of the job. There was little to no effort to address concerns or improve the work environment. Instead, employees were subjected to criticism, belittlement, and blatant favoritism.

Overall, this job was a toxic experience that I would not recommend to anyone. The emotional toll, unfair treatment, and lack of basic respect for employees made it a place where morale and trust were nonexistent. Save yourself the stress and look elsewhere.

Years ago, I enjoyed working at Nadege however management (within the store & within the offices) drastically declined late last year/this year. Recent management lacks integrity and is very unprofessional. It was said that all employees could be fired and they could have a new team within a day- that does not foster team motivation or lead to a healthy stable work environment. Staff is also constantly told what they are doing wrong and never receives praise for any positive actions done; it is very demotivating. Managers also favour certain employees and hours are basically based upon that. Manager unprofessionally speak behind their employes' backs and it leads to a very uncomfortable environment to work in. We also were promised direct deposit for months but are still receiving checks. Your pay will occasionally be a day (or days) late- sometimes without any notice. There is also very little communication between the head office and the stores which causes much confusion for us workers within the store. Managers and supervisors would also sit in the back for the majority of their shift and chit chat leaving the associates to complete the work. There is a constant understaffing adding a lot of pressure to the working employees. The company does not care about seniority so I believe there is no use staying loyal to the company for a long amount of time as they will not regard your years of dedication & hard work. I overall do not recommend working here.

I’ve never written a negative review in my life! But this environment just brought this out of me. First of all, the expectations here run VERY high and you are expected to deliver the world. While that may be expected of a job, if this is the case employees should be compensated accordingly. The turnover rate is high for a reason. There is ZERO respect for staff, despite the fact that everyone is always working and cleaning nonstop. Everyone is under appreciated, overworked and stressed. Breaks and schedules are unfairly organized. Management is very condescending and talk down to staff. It doesn’t matter if the store is short staffed because of “budget cuts” you will still be held responsible if the store is a mess on a busy day even if there is no time or enough hands on deck for the amount of work required. 
Simply put...You are to blame for everything.
I would not recommend working here if you are someone who is looking for a regular service job. There are better places out there that don’t demand so much out of you. Im sure you could find a minimum wage job where you are respected and treated like a person. Think carefully before subjecting yourself to this kind of job and if you’re going to shop here.

Poorly orchestrated training. Trained on product for 3 days and briefly everything else. Trained in a quiet store then left to fend for self in a giant, fast paced store with little experience. Always under staffed and asked to work longer than 8 hours. Managers stay in the back office and don't help. Team meetings are rare but when they do happen, owner always negatively reinforces all the things she thinks we do wrong. When owner comes in to fix things they micromanage. The staff are all overworked and unappreciated so the staff mood is always tense. No one is having any fun. There are policies we are told to follow but none of them are executed after training. The only thing owner cares about is fake smiling at customers and getting more money from them. The owners are ignorant to the goings on with their staff and rely only on number values to assess the store's success. There is little respect from the owners towards their staff who only ever hear negative comments through managers, but are still expected to work hard for them.

the initial interview is easy then they bring you in for a trial interview where you do a ~3 hours of a shift (unpaid). they hire you with little to no experience and expect a lot of you quickly. I learned A LOT about french pastry - entremets, macarons, etc. 
tasks:
- mise en place (measuring out ingredients)
- making things like creme anglaise/bavaroise/patisserie, macaron fillings, mousse cakes (assembling, filling and removing molds) 
- baking cookies and macaron shells
- assembling macarons
- using macaron piping machine
- cleaning
there can be a bit of time when you're exposed to the cold - in the freezer and pushing racks that just came out of the freezer.
the job is generally very tiring as you are on your feet for a long time and carrying some heavy things like bags of milk.
hr is pretty helpful and they are very understanding of sickness and taking time off. the pastry chefs I assisted were very kind and helpful.
there is a high burnout rate because job is exhausting and they expect a lot from you 

If you're a hard worker, they'll take advantage of that and make you do most of the hard grunt work while they stand and watch then criticize. Management fails to strive for equal responsibility for all team members leading to single workers to do 50-75% of the work. Can't turn to management for help as they gossip behind your back and don't help out. If you make them upset, they'll do passive aggressive things like cut your shifts and assign you even more work. Random expectations for different employees depending how much management likes you.

Work environment is hard to strive in - had coworkers have anxiety coming to work, and that shouldn't be the case just for a part time job. Have raised concerns about unequal responsibility and nothing changed.

The job overall is not hard. It's actually one of the easiest jobs I've ever had. You also get paid a little over minimum wage plus tips which is great! I will say sometimes the staff can be a little shady (you really never know what there saying behind your back) and it can become very stressful to keep up with the fast pace environment (expesically @ Christmas and on weekends) it can really drain you at times. Overall is was a good experience and my managers were really nice, always understanding and very funny and happy with my work. My best advice to anyone interested is to always be productive, and have a smile on your face! :)

Long hours, constant budget cuts and an 'everybody is replaceable' outlook, nobody is valued, no matter how hard they work or how long they stay at the company. As people leave, the work load simply gets spread to the remaining employees, who then have to stay even longer to get the job done, just for management to turn around and stay there is too much overtime.

Reviews rarely happen and when they do they purposefully evaluate you lowly to get out of giving raises. This bakery has the potential to do better but instead relies on the fact the French pastry is a passion for the people working there and they take advantage of that.
