when this driver job was posted it stated 45,000 a year but after accepting the job suddenly it was one week on and 1 week of,because they gave my hrs to another driver because they wanted to keep him he was part time and they wanted to make sure they had a spare driver so they gave him my hrs so I went from 45,000 a year to less than 24,000.They never told you you would also be sorting mail and loading mail and parcels,and that you only have 1 hrs to load a 16 foot cube van by yourself and how large the loads would be it was just to pick up and deliver.the mail bins were never stacked in postal code order and most every day the parcels that were sorted were mixed up and you had to check every parcel to make sure it was going to the right location,and you have to load all the parcels in the back of the truck then climb in the truck and stack them all in order of delivery,every day you get parcels that are 100 lbs and over even thou Canada post claims no parcels over 100 lbs but they still ship them down the line.Our pick up location was changed from Blind river to Elliot Lake because the amount of mail and parcels have steadily increased and now we are actually having to separate the parcels and mail,we separate and load around 5 to 700 parcels and mail and it is suppose to be Canada post job to separate it thats why the corporate people in the city give you 1 hrs to complete all this.We went from being delivery drivers to mail sorters and loaders and delivery drivers,they now have us doing traditional Canada post jobs even thou we are told we are not suppose to touch the mail since we are NOT employed by Canada post.We were also given time limits as to how much time we have to deliver but they timed the distance and drive time but not the actual unloading and having to go off the highway time .So you have to go into to work on your own time and work for free everyday to get the job done as well they expect you to fill the truck every day on your own time and even if it needs to go to the shop you have to take it and sit there and wait for it since we only have one vehicle but they reuse to pay you so I haven't done it but I have been going into work every day a half hour early and by the time you do your final return mail drop off and take the truck to be fill with fuel you end up working at least an extra half hr so thats an hr of free work every day.The local postal outlets lie to head office and tell them the mail and parcels come separated already and its not at all,and then they complain because we are late and they think we are wasting time smoking and drinking coffee thats why it takes more than an hr to do a 2 man job in 2 to 3 hrs

Driving the highway at night brings challenges but with rest it is manageable

Positive and easy going atmosphere. People help each other 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Get your load ready at Canada post, carry mail to post offices in other towns. Come home

The atmosphere was great. Job was awesome. Management was pretty good, easy to talk to. The only reason why I no longer work there is they unfortunately lost the bid for the contract.
