Great place to work. The management is firm, and expect you to work hard. A typical day is fast-paced but is nice to not always be the same. The culture is good, as usual some bad apples here and there. I enjoy working here. The best part about the company is that it is very diverse in positions and they promote from within lots. It is also nice that if you are not happy with your exact role you can move to other positions (I have seen guys move through different departments lots if they're a hard worker). I really liked working here. You will like it here if you are a hard worker. They seem to be expanding lots which is cool too, lots of opportunities. 

I worked at Northern Strands as a warehouse laborer in saskatoon in 2022 and 2023, overall good busy job that pays well and never leaves you bored with lots of departments to learn about. the work is mostly picking stuff for customers which can be a little overwhelming when they are waiting for you but thats only a part of the job. My co-workers, direct supervisor and manager were all very good helpful people. I give 4 stars because the "operations manager" was a problem and needs to retire but I didn't have to deal with him much. The pay was also good and I had heard there were opportunities to grow within the company

My primary job was titled "Synthetic rope Splicer" to which i was the person in charge of this. I was in charge of the synthetic warehouse. I really enjoyed this and gained several tickets. i was taught by a man named **** ******.  He gave me this opportunity and i am very grateful for it and he was and is the best teacher, mentor, employer i have ever had. Unfortunately due to the timing in my life, i could not deal with the stress from my co workers at work. I was dealing with a lot of personal issues at home regarding custody battles etc.

Office environment is calm and respectful. Easy to approach other staff and managers for support. Company is very diverse including mining, oil and gas, construction. Always finding out new and interesting capabilities of the business. Staff are passionate about their roles and willing to take the time to explain how they support projects all over the world. 

Lots of social activities throughout the year. 


The workers are amazing, they are what gets you through each day! - the warehouse! 
The manager was amazing although doesn't work there anymore. 
The owners could use improvement to be around more, and involved more. They hold meetings with the manager, but communication is through higher up to the manager to the workers. We need leadership not a boss. 
The sister companies are more important or at least that's how they make it seem. 
Learned a lot. Pay was fair. Benefits were the usual. Not enough Staff 

It's fine, no major day to day issues. Keep your head down, do your work, don't make waves, and you'll be fine. 

There is a huge management bottleneck. Decision-making across nearly every department flows through one person (the business manager) so important decisions get delayed for weeks if her focus/priorities are elsewhere.

This was fine when the company was smaller, but it has grown to a point where this is unsustainable. They need a board of directors.

Morale at the office feels very low. 

I've been with Northern Strands for 5 years now and have nothing but good things to say. Everyone is great to work with from the warehouse person in the back all the way to the owner himself. It's a very team oriented business that treats everyone like family. They have an interest in growing employees and will offer you the training you need to improve professionally. They are flexible and understand unexpected things occur in life. Overall an excellent company to work for!

I have enjoyed working as a Journeyperson electrician at Fortis. Its a smaller group of hard working, knowledgeable and friendly folks in the electrical services department. Some on the road work and some in town work. Lots of overtime available and learning/training opportunities. There is always something new to learn or be a part of.

A fast-paced, growing work environment. Not for everyone but for me its nice to be pushed everyday. The culture seems positive and people get along well from what I can see. Some days are super busy and hard but generally things are good here. I have learned lots and lots of internal promotion. Its fun to be part of a smaller but growing company.

If this is for a sales roll then strongly not recommend. You will be remotely managed in a micromanagement format and compared to others in similar rolls daily based on how much data you can input. Pretty sad really. So happy not to be a part of that stressful environment anymore.
