The job itself, and the patients, are (usually) incredible. You get a chance to make a real difference and build relationships with people who are struggling within your own community. There are some really challenging aspects to this role as well - Several patients became very violent or aggressive towards staff with very minimal support from management. Doctors would frequently treat staff as "lesser" people instead of colleagues. I loved this job, because of what I had the chance to do, and the experience that it brought me. But there are definite areas for OATC to support their employees, starting with better benefits packages and significantly more mental health support for their own employees. 

The patients are the only thing that make the job bearable. It is extremely heartwarming work and you grow strong bonds with the patients. However, management is absolutely horrible. They get personal and throw professionalism out the window when they don’t like someone. No matter how incredible you are at your job, you’ll be gone before you know it if the manager has something against you. Don’t speak your mind or stand up for yourself either.

I worked every other weekend as a receptionist, and covered weekdays periodically in the absence of the f/t clerk.  Typical workday consisted of answering phones, filing faxes and other client forms, booking appointments, checking clients in/out for their appointments, monitoring urine samples and processing the samples in the machine.  Store samples in the fridge, dispose of old samples.  Minimal cleaning around the building.  Assisting the RN with unloading the inventory crates and matching the items to the order sheets.  Maintaining confidentiality.

I worked in Bracebridge and Huntsville and the staff was great! So helpful and knowledgeable, I never felt overwhelmed and not having help. It's safe, even if patients are upset there's generally an honour system within the OATC community with staff and patients. You do have to see a lot of tough situations, and see a lot of suffering so just know that before hand. 

For anyone who has stayed with this company for an extended period of time, they are there because they truly love that they are helping other people. The job has short work days which is nice if you have a family but the lack of hours and minimal pay makes it hard to stay. Working everyday of the month you would still not have full time hours. There is also little to no room for advancement. The clinics are mostly self managed with a few visits from upper management a year.

Room to gain lots of knowledge and experience. For those with addiction, mental health educational background, this is a good place to put your schooling to good use. For those with nursing background, pay is fair in comparison. Management is only a phone call away. And for those who have determination, there is room for growth. Company offers medical/medication compensation & RSP.

The people here are wonderful to work with, very kind. However it can be stressful at times, you are working with people overcoming addiction after all. However I found it very rewarding to be able to experience the continuity of care that was present for the patients we had- I got to see them gradually get better over time and it was a wonderful feeling. The pay is not great, but it is remarkably stable and secure once you get a job.

Management doesn’t care about the staff or  care about the clients. In fact, favouritism is shown to select staff members and all aren’t treated fairly. It’s ALL about money with this company.

With no experience with blood work, they will ask you to draw blood from patients. Putting you and others at risk 

This company is always hiring, because people realize their worth and leave.

Great team of coworkers and it is a rewarding job. The local senior staff really hold this place together, they should be compensated for this. There is some favoritism from management and the local management is a revolving door.
