Cons: 
- extremely fast paced environment.  It’s basically like working in a healthcare factory. Patient in, patient out. It would get so crowded at times, there’d be no space for the patients to sit. 
- management and some of the doctors were so disorganized and rude at times. Tend to play favourites.
- pay was horrible when I started although I know it’s gone up a bit now. Although, for the amount of work that needs to be done in such short time while also working with extremely delicate patients, the pay could be much higher
- Parking. No parking on site and if you did want to park across the street you have to pay 5 dollars a day. Free parking is offered but it’s about a 10 min walk from the building. 
- no real room for advancement and growth 

Pros 
- snacks in the break room
- fun gatherings 
- the work, when not forced to work at an incredibly fast-pace, is interesting. You learn a lot on the job and play a role in patients journey
-Work dog 
-spacious building. 
-weekends off. Won’t work past 6 

I will say that the work they do at OCC is amazing. Being apart of the patients journey was always special.

Full time opportunity and never work weekends 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Super fast paced, faster than fast food industry.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Work environment is hostile and everyone seems to hate their job.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Helping patients check in through a Kiosk which is very odd considering most patients have vision problems. This is also something patients complain about. They will yell at you because they cannot see the screens and half the time you will be busy doing paper work or scheduling so it becomes overwhelming. Most of the day you’re basically checking patients in, taking payments and scheduling appointments. Filling out paper work for the doctors. Seems pretty simple however it requires a lot of attention to detail, you need to be fast and ready to get yelled at by elderly people.

Firstly, I like to take things that may be considered negative to others, and flip them into positives.
-opportunity for growth within company (speaking from experience)
- Management is always available to talk to
-job-training is hands on
- daily tasks are repetitive so you rarely ever forget what you've learned.
-fast paced environment makes the long hours go by quickly.
-lots of employee events (pre covid)
-if you're looking for workplace to make easy money by doing nothing, this is not the place to look at. Employer appreciates hard work and acknowledges it. Personally, my experience has been a great one. Of course a few hiccups here and there but nothing to make me want to quit. You get what you put in...so always put your 100% forward!

Cons

-parking of $5. free parking is available about a 10 minute walk away
-long hours (9+)
-fast paced environment maybe an issue to some
-constant use of a headset to communicate with others
-walking back and forth from both buildings during winter is horrible.
..so layer up!

The work is fast paced, Co workers are nice and supportive as well & the office dog is so cute. I really enjoyed my time at OCC and made life long friends. Management is very understanding and has no problem in assisting you with your future goals in the company.  I think the foundations you get at OCC make you very strong for future job prospects, and this name is great to add to your resume as it is one of Canada's largest eye hospitals! Overall, I really liked my time at OCC. 

**I see there are lot of negative reviews, but this type of fast paced work is not for everyone! People who thrive in a fast paced professional and high standard environment, OCC is for them. 

I worked here a couple years ago for a few months. I had to resign as I felt that the compensation did not reflect the workload and stress of the role at all. The girl who got hired at the same time as me ended up resigning for the same reason. Based on the recent reviews that I’m reading, I see that this position is still poorly compensated.  

On a more positive note, I personally did not have any issues with management and the position can feel somewhat rewarding at times. 

I would only work here if you truly thrive in extremely fast-paced/stressful environments, or if you are desperate for work experience. Otherwise, save yourself the stress as there are much better opportunities elsewhere.

The whole atmosphere is quite horrible. I did enjoy the people I worked with daily but the whole management system and atmosphere is depressing. They just want you to only do work, never talk or do anything that may bring you any joy. They really should read the book "The Happiness Advantage".  Most of the doctors and high up management are only worried about money and numbers, they don't really care about the employees or even the patients. They pay you as little as possible but expect the world from you. You will very rarely  get recognition for doing anything good but will be immediately in trouble for any mistake.

I enjoyed learning the position even though I was trained by someone who didn’t know everything about the position. It’s a learn as u go type of job. I don’t agree with that because we are dealing with patients eyes!! The pay vs workload doesn’t match up at all. During pandemic they served over 300 patients a day! It was crazy . Management doesn’t care about you unless ur the same race as them. One single employee made a false statement to Hr about me and my position was taken away from me.. yes I was fired! Whoever reading this will know who Iam and I don’t care... this place ruined my life .

They overwork employees and do not pay enough for the amount of work that you do. There is a lot of favoritism, especially from one of the doctors and management and if they don't like you they will find a way to fire you even if you have worked for them for more than 10 years and perform the job well.  The only plus is that co-workers are nice, but management only cares about the doctors and not the employees. You feel constantly micromanaged and criticized even for things that you did not do wrong. I would not advise anyone to work here.

Colleagues/team were great. Helpful and kind.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
I worked at this clinic for under three months, and concerns were noticeable early on.

* Management and HR often used a fear-based approach with staff
* Feedback was frequently delivered in a condescending manner
* The work environment felt extremely tense
* Staff hesitant to speak up or ask questions due to fear of repercussions
* Escalating concerns did not feel productive or lead to meaningful change

The job is interesting and fun but there are too much favoritism and drama for no reason. When you raise a concern to management they act as if your crazy. You can do your job well but they don't care. They hire and fire employees very often. They will like you today and not like you tomorrow then it's your out of a job. If I were you I would look for a job elsewhere.
