I worked at OCL in Redwater in 2019 as a civil lead hand and enjoyed the experience.
Management - very easy to talk to, fair and will support you to achieve success. Superintendent/foremen are approachable, listens and works with you to reach goals safely.
Team - good group of guys, lots of support from the pipe fitters and enjoyed the odd banter.
Wages - somewhat in line with Industrial non union/non clac rates and considering it’s work in town. You need to accept the trade off rate between the ‘non union and being home at every night’ and ‘industrial at camp away from family’ rates. I was happy considering work can be slow during winter months.
Work - deadlines are rather tight, expect ripples and waves of hustling to spending time setting up for the next task. As with any job, have the right people in place, have that tailgate meeting and ensure everyone understand the plan and goal, involve everyone, from spotter to the mainline operator.

I’d definitely work here again, was called back every so often for work, good experience all round.

Safety is their core value followed quality of work and then production. It eases tensions knowing you’ll go home safe and that you’re given the time to do the best job you can

Given the industry, work dries up from time to time for specific trades however they do their best to secure more work and continue to grow without the need to cut corners or undercut the competition

The work environment is surprisingly calm and respectful. They take the new age approach  of treating workers like humans instead of numbers which is a welcome change in the industry

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Start the morning with a thorough tool box meeting so everyone is aware of everyone’s task and what main hazards are present, to mitigate said hazards. Work and honest day and finish safely

A typical day as a senior estimator involves using my skills from school and construction experience to work through challenging and exciting bid packages from some of the industry's most demanding clients.  I leverage the experience of my colleagues in the estimating group as well as our dedicated construction management teams and together we pursue the award of contracts which help put great folks like yourself to work on projects across western Canada.

The work life balance here is great and many of us have time and energy left at the end of a day to spend time with our friends and families enjoying our hobbies.  

I worked with ocl group in anzac just outside fort McMurray. My friend was was actually the one that was hired on and he told management about me and it was just like that, was put to work. All the ocl employees are good hearted people. The ones I worked with and seen anyway and haven't heard much diffrent. They had for us a couple rooms in the camp down the road which was greatly appreciated. Kinda really going my phone rings and it's ocl saying it's go tIme. But I know theres a lot of people fighting for jobs these days. And they like to keep the seniors around first which is solid of them to. I've lost a few jobs to people coming to work for much less money and I'm out the job due to it. So good to see and yeah nothing but good things to say about everyone I met there.

Great People. Professional staff with good attitudes. Hard working.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The Client was not knowledgeable about working in Northern BC. Did not understand muskeg and Spring breakup.

I worked onsite in a field office. The culture was good and often fun but the main goal was getting high quality work done and meeting deadlines.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I was writing construction execution plans and construction work plans.

Ruthless, cutthroat management style. Management sucks. A culture that promotes people fitting in with their cronies as opposed to doing quality work. You get fired for doing your job without issues just because the Lead does not like you. But will promote others that make serious costly errors aggravating the client just because they are buddies with the lead. Worst management syle ever!

Worked with great staff and co workers and foremans were always great and treated me good!

Waiting on other trades for us to do our job

Environment was great. Working outdoors which was even better

Doing what I love. Working with machines, boom hands, chucking skids and Working hard
