Highly disorganized, mismanaged mess with appalling communication, absent leadership and a higher staff turnover rate than other similar jobs.

Although labelled an essential service, the employee health, wellness and safety is treated less important than customer service.  They have done the absolute bare minimum dealing with Covid 19.  Considering customers come from all over and outside the province, very little is done to deal with the situation. A person can rush in and out from the washrooms with no mask, and nobody can stop them. Likewise a person can claim an exemption, then berate you for even asking them why they aren't wearing a mask; even though you're just trying to follow imposed health guidelines and do your job properly.

Managers spend most of their time hiding in the office, outside on smoke breaks, or over at the one of several food brands they singularly seem invested in. New hires are poorly trained and struggle when placed on the floor. Regular problems include both supply and staff shortages, equipment malfunctioning, poor scheduling and poor behaviour from often impatient and ill-mannered customers.

Some staff members have left the floor in anger and in tears, but managers are usually too cowardly or completely absent to confront this despicable behaviour from customers. Unfortunately the customer's money is valued more.

After working 4+ years here I strongly advise doing yourself a favour and avoid working for ONroute. You will be expected to blissfully thrive in an environment of poor standards and mediocrity, while several customers treat you as inferior and unworthy of your pay.  Also don't expect management to have your back when it matters most.  Save yourself from the emotional, mental and physical stress and anguish of ONroute; it's not worth it.


If you want a job where you’re overworked, underpaid, under-appreciated, have to fight to have two days off in a row (or time off), with absolutely no work-life balance then you’re in luck, you’ve found the perfect job for yourself! 
If you are hired as a supervisor at ONroute then you’ll only be making slightly more than minimum wage with a countless amount of extra responsibilities. If you’re a good worker you will be taken advantage of. 
You will be scheduled 8 hour shifts but have to stay beyond your scheduled shift time due to staff shortages & the amount of duties you need to fulfill before leaving. Management will then threaten to adjust your punches to the time you were scheduled to leave at (or they will actually do so if you are not liked by management)… despite you staying extra time to complete compulsory tasks or help out the other staff as the turnover rate is horrendous. You will also sometimes be expected to supervise an additional brand as well as your assigned brand at the same time with no additional pay. 
This company will hire anybody as they are desperate so don’t expect to be working with people with great work ethics. You will have to pick up the slack of your fellow coworkers with bad work ethics with no extra pay. Some of these coworkers may be very rude to customers but because they’re related to another current employee, they won’t get an appropriate punishment. When you speak to management about said coworkers that slack off nothing will be done about it. 
Overall, this is the most unprofessional & toxic work environment that you will ever encounter. Your fellow coworkers will all be miserable due to how everyone is being treated by management/higher up. You will bond with your fellow coworkers over how horrible it is to work for ONroute. I would not recommend working here unless you’re absolutely desperate of a job. 

I joined Onroute back in September 2020, and it honestly one of the best career moves I have ever made. My background is in full service restaurant management. When covid started it hit our industry hard, and, like many others this past year, I found myself looking to make a career move.

When I interviewed for a management position with Onroute, I knew right away that this was the right spot for me. The company vision was something I could believe in. At Onroute it's all about people and striving for excellence in what we do every day. We set the bar high for ourselves but make sure to give everyone the tools and support needed to be successful. It is a very engaging place to work for an experienced leader like myself, but also for young leaders just starting out in their management careers. I am now almost 9 months into the position and am just as excited about my job as I was at the start. As a General Manager I have grown and learned things that I wouldn't have had the opportunity to learn before, and I've also had many opportunities to mentor and develop large teams of people which is something I love to do.

For managers it's a 40 hour work week. Salaries are competitive. Potential for growth is huge.

I would definitely recommend working at Onroute! 


Disappointing Experience at OnRoute Innisfil

Customers be aware they sell you xpired bread used for hotdogs also the next door burger king uses expired bread for the buns.
I had a very unpleasant experience at OnRoute Innisfil, and I cannot recommend this place. The management and staff are incredibly rude, with poor leadership skills all around. If you're there with friends, it might be tolerable, but otherwise, it feels like a constant struggle. The work environment is uncomfortable, and the staff often make you feel like you're being tortured rather than supported.

They treat employees working on brand assignments poorly, even making you do menial tasks like washing dustbins. There is a complete lack of understanding and respect when it comes to shift rules, with frequent inappropriate decisions being made that make no sense. Communication is almost nonexistent, and there’s a clear lack of coordination between staff and management. It’s frustrating to work in such a disorganized environment, and the overall atmosphere is one of negativity.

In short, OnRoute Innisfil has a long way to go when it comes to treating its employees with the respect they deserve. The leadership needs a serious overhaul, and it’s a place I would advise avoiding if you value a positive work culture.

The best part is gaining experience, learning new skills.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The most stressful part was the highly pressurized work environment and the challenges in communication and support within the team. At times this made it difficult to maintain a comfortable and balanced working environment.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment is very fast-paced and can be quite demanding. Team members are expected to handle multiple responsibilities during busy periods. While it provides an opportunity to learn and work under pressure, at times the environment can feel quite stressful due to the workload and communication challenges within the team.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical day at the company involved working in a fast-paced environment where multiple tasks needed to be managed at the same time, such as assisting with food preparation, serving customers, and completing shift duties. The workload could be quite demanding, and employees were expected to perform efficiently during busy periods. At times, the environment felt quite pressurized, which made the shifts more challenging.

For it being one of my first jobs, its not half bad. The staff, in general, are very nice, maybe a few bad apples but as does every workplace. The management is nice and will often have your back when you're dealing with a, for lack of a better word, raging customer. However, there does often seem to be an understaffing problem. I was constantly doing 30+ hours despite being part-time. Supervisors are constantly looking for people to cover shifts, which is not necessarily their fault, but it's peculiar how often shifts seem to be lacking employees. This doesn't tie in well with my next statement which is that the location is HORRIBLE. Always incredibly busy, which is in no way helped by the understaffing problem. Will sometimes be working non-stop for 4 hours by yourself in an incredibly hot environment with customers constantly coming through. 

If you wanted to work with good people then by all means be my guest but be aware that it includes a very rough mental strain.

The pay is decent. You get some extra money by Ridesharing for the employees to the location. But very unethical management. You get sick, you are required to let them know at least 1 day in advance and sometimes it’s your responsibility to find a replacement. Even if you find a replacement you have to get them to approve the replacement. Hard work has no value, you will have to sweet talk your managers to get what you want. You don’t have to move a finger there as long as you are close to the manager. You get hurt at work they will appeal your WSIB claims, apparently it’s a standard procedure for them to appeal all unfavourable WSIB decisions. Lucky for me WSIB overruled their appeal and granted me full claim. There’s two kinds of people there the ones that work hard and are expected to do so everyday. And then the bunch who is there to entertain the managers and have the time of their lives. Benefits are pretty bad too.

Typical day involved at least once hourly cleaning of the main area and washrooms. Staff washrooms were cleaned once a day, as was the parking lot.  
Learned effective time management and delegation skills. 
Management was great to work with, provided prompt feedback and was very hands-on.
Coworkers were also great to work with, very friendly.
The best part of the job was interacting with customers.
The hardest was keeping up on Sundays. Most traffic happens then, and there would routinely be only one male and one female porter on shift, not enough to keep everything clean constantly. Would also run out of materials on Sundays due to demand.

I’ve worked for the Barrie onroute for almost 6 years now and it’s always been a fast paced and friendly environment. Management is extremely accommodating and flexible when it comes to hours. They always work around my college hours and when I need days off for family, vacation, appointments, etc. The summer time is very busy but management and coworkers are great at working together and try to create it as least stressful as possible. Team members are great, friendly and easy to work with making for a fun work environment. It’s nice to meet new customers on their journeys and see our regular customers. Working at the Barrie location has been nothing but great. 

If you arent a higher up (Supervisor and above) you're wasting your time. You are constantly doing the jobs of more than one person considering there is never enough staff. Higher ups treat you like your garbage, and when you ask for help on how to learn something you get handed a 200 page booklet and get told to find your answer in there. It is extremely common to get physically sick from this place. Half of the time, scheduling is a complete mess and is never good. Its either copied and pasted months on end or they schedule you many days in a row and give you one day off in between. This place is horrible, take it from me and dont apply here. You will regret it.
