My typical day at work starts by going in to introduce myself to my patients for the day. Doing my vitals, head to toe/focused assessment. Giving their medications according to doctor's orders, 3 checks and 10 rigths.  While I am doing all these, I am also doing my documentation to ensure the whole health care team has access to the most updated information on my patients. I then go for bullet rounds where all nurses, physiotherpist, generally the whole health care team discuss about the plan and the progress for every patient. 

Then I proceed to give morning care to my patients as needed, or provide what they will need to take care of their ADLs. During that period I do my wound care on my patients as ordered. By the end of that, it's usually time for my noon medications. After that I take a break after which I check on my patients, do my input and outputs. Empty all drains e.g JP, Hemovac, Foley etc. I administer my 2pm medications and I ensure all my documentations are up to date. 

During all these, I would have definitely completed  a few patient discharges and sometimes admissions. If not, my post operative new admission would come usually by 4pm after which I settle the patients down, orient them to room, do my assessments and carry out doctor's orders while using my critical thinking to ensure my patient's safety.

My day does not have a routine as things changes every day. This is one of my most enjoyable part of the job; I never know what to expect and there is always room for learning. Very challenging, but fun and educational at the same time. There's great team work at my unit and we all work together for the best of our patients.

Worked for markham stouffville hospital for several years in inpatient surgery. Very heavy floor with very little help available. Job requires lots of lifting and you must be able to cope with the ability of high patient turn over rates as well as icu equivalent patient acuity. Lots of new graduate nurses on the floor but unfortunately due to lack of experience senior nurses were put in compromising positions in order to ensure the health of the patients. Management was horrible. Unless you didn't speak up for yourself or enjoyed buttering up the manager; favoritism was always an issue. As part time staff there was no guarantee of hours. Either "feast or famine" where staff were forced to pick up hours due to sick calls or last minute changes. Or waiting to get called in when hours were scarce.  High turnover rate for staff due to work conditions and high rate of staff injuries due to heavy patient work loads.

This organization does not live up to it's name. I worked in the Uxbridge site for a short period of time.  Emergency is dirty. So called central registration is a joke; basically one member doing 3 jobs. Although this site is unionized but the total mind set is non union. Unorganized HR department.  They messed up the orientation training dates and no accountability. Very poor management, no organization.  Worked another part time job and was asked repeatedly to drop shifts at the other place to accommodate them.  Senior staff is a bully and favoritism is very common.  Management is not there to listen to your concerns or to help.  Low wages and high expectations with no clear plan in place.  Horrible place to work, will never recommend any one to work at especially Uxbridge site.

The mental health team are supportive, compassionate and assist their staff to develop academically by paying for courses.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Not being given an opportunity to move up in the organization

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
the culture is very deceptive within certain parts of the organization. no transparency and unfairness when it comes to people of color trying to move up in the organization. otherwise they put on these events for staff to make them feel valued by doing BBQ's, give out awards such as education awards, honor to care awards etc.

Professionalism and friendly enviornment in the diagnostic department is very healthy.All the staff members share and celebrate their joy and sorrows equally as a team to achieve the success and reach the goal.All team members vision is very clear "Pt's care ,confidence and comfort is the top prority" and we all work hard unitedly to optimize our target.Respect each other,reduce the repeats is our slogan.The time management,punctuality,excellent attendance and accountibility are our strength and contineous learning improves our weakness and for that reason our management team is proud for us tobe the team members of the diagnostic department of MSH.

working for 4 doctors in a busy multi practice environment has its challenges but the patients and co workers make it a very special place to work

multi doctor practice and a very busy schedule

generally a good team environment and good communication and support from the doctors at this practice

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
busy.  this is not for the feint at heart but the days go by super quick

The department is under new management who doesn't understand the needs of the department at all. Instead, just concentrates on micromanaging shifts and numbers with expectations that are unrealistic by industry standards. Management doesn't care about quality of work, only numbers, treats you like a machine. Training is terrible. The department has many employees that have worked at the hospital for 10+ years; these employees act like they are spoiled entitled brats. New employees are attacked and berated if you don't join their clique of toxic views. Pay is not competitive with other hospitals. For your own mental health, stay away.

I work in the outpatient ambulatory clinics and it's an amazing place to work. I feel like I have a lot of autonomy and I'm working to my full scope of practice. 
The pitfall of this hospital is the horrendous EMR system they use (it's too outdated and complicated to use). Another pitfall is their management teams. They do not include the workers in the decision making process for things that will affect our jobs. 

This was a decent paying job. Scheduling is based off seniority. Like any job in the beginning you should’ve stuck with the grunt work. I think it’s a perfect job for a highschool kid starting at 20$+ an hour. You will not make 25$ an hour no matter how long you work here. Unless you want to work night shift, you’re going to be part time for many years.

I liked working there as I don’t care to work at union hospitals. Pay is on par without the useless union dues. I haven’t worked there in 10 years so not sure my review has any value.
I do know from friends still there that over the years the hospital was replacing RNs with RNAs even in active areas with the RN still responsible for their practice. A number have also left
