This job is only if you have an active ei claim. Besides that you will not make enough to survive 98% of of the weeks what you make will be spent on gas alone the wage is a staggering 15.90 it's terrible in today's economy the bosses rarely ever wants to work overtime in the introduction of you being hired they'll say they do OT and have competitive wages a good union etc I promise they don't. the unions in house n you don't get much besides a bunch of breaks you pay for with your "Union dues" and good luck actually meeting a rep it's in house and in favor of the company not the worker. Basically this job does not pay enough for it to be worth it with the low pay and hours most weeks unless you have an active ei claim.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Long hours, some management hard to deal with and unresponsive, unaware of daily things going on (secretive). Also, expected to leave on short notice and lack of insurance. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
You will enjoy the people you work with but not some of the management ( ie. The Captain and some office staff)

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Stressful at times but overall satisfaction of cooking good food. Happy crew, happy cook!

Well.. I was on night shift so my shift started around 6:30 pm, I disinfected all pans and started up all equipment and everyone got to do their job and I carried pans where I was supposed to and just maintaining the systems. I learned how to maintain systems, learned social skills, as well as I learned to make new friends. Management was okay, a bit on the rough side though. Co-workers were okay, Some were old and saucy while more were bittersweet. Hardest part of the job was maybe putting up with being a slave and having to tend to everyone in that building. Enjoyable part of the job was to meet new friends.

My days were long but every day was awesome, the fishery has its challenges especially processing a costly product like Lobster. The management Team were very trusting and gave direction and then I was trusted to run the plant the best of my ability. I had 12 supervisors under me who were great to work with and we were an excellent team. The hardest part of the job was meeting orders for our customers when lobster landings were down. I loved everything about my job, I dont have any complaints, it was busy but so productive.

This was a good place to work cause the people were very friendly. The hardest part of working was you had very short notice when u needed to be at work and the hours were all over the place....A typical day at work was going in getting suited up and going out on the boats and start unloading them until they were empty and weighed, then you loaded the trucks then your shift was complete.

Going to work in cold weather

Work is messy and fun and not hard at all

Enjoying my time working waking up early in the morning

Family oriented atmosphere. Great office morale.

I cannot think of anything to say that is the most stressful.

The company practices ethnic diversity and it's fun atmosphere.

Like most companies there's good people working within OCI, but the overall culture with regards to employees and health & safety is bad. No benefits to speak of, you can work 40 years at OCI and still have nothing for retirement.

Manager is a cold unfriendly person. Out of touch of how people feel and take things at face value.  You are replaceable!! They don't care about their employees. Most of the management team as no idea what they are doing. Fake it until you make it I guess. 

OCI is a great company to work for if you are okay with going out to sea for a minimum of 21 days, working with your hands constantly, and are both physically and mentally strong. good luck
