Company is in transition and working out the kinks. 

A typical day would be perhaps working on a project which would include specifying products, creating proposals, preparing notes to send for drawings, going to a customers site to measure a space, consult with project manager and CAD person regarding requirements of a project, troubleshoot issues, follow-up on various stages of a project, meet with sales manager to review opportunities and sales funnel, create business plan for the upcoming year, and perform business development duties.  
I learned the importance of team cohesiveness and everyone being on the same page to work toward the same business goals.  I also learned the importance of effective management to inspire and motivate excellence from their people.
The hardest part of the job was a lack of resources  at times for the volume of business being generated out of the dept.
The most enjoyable part of the job were my co-workers, seeing a project to completion and working with the product.  Space planning is a love of mine and I was able to do ALOT of that.

Tittles were one thing, but everyone worked as a team at Office Depot irregardless of them. I worked with management and the VP directly on issues with marketing, store planning and in office needs ( admin, social committee, maintenance). 
Everyone was heard and admin staff was often invited into meetings to brainstorm. 
The set up of the office was that everyone had their own office, which gave people the privacy that they needed but all doors remained open through the day making it seem continually inviting. Even when challenging times hit the company, coworkers tried their best to maintain optimistism in the office place to ensure effeciency. 
I enjoyed writing the marketing forecasts and current trends for the planners and buyers. 
Working on the ever growing website was at times difficult to keep up with but still a worthwhile learning experience.

When I worked here, it was only enjoyable due to most of the other employees, but aside from that, the management was not professional. My manager at the time when I left would often disappear for a longer break period to do some shopping around the concourse. I would often find said manager on their phone when walking into the back office. Said manager would also not even do much work other than using the company phone to make personal calls. 

So, alas, it was up to the sales team to pick up most of the slack and actually do work around the retail location. Key-holders would only get paid about a dollar more than regular part-time employees so it was not even worth it, and a raise for a part time employee was about 31 cents lol. They even hired account managers starting at the same wage as regular part time employees to help keep the budgets low. It was awful and I would not recommend working here if you are looking for something challenging, worthwhile, impactful or even decent.

Lack of direction and new ideas. 
Even though the non management team do their best to keep the company running, the management never take a decision. The company is going into a downward slope but management seems not to care...they only like to book tones of meeting to talk about irrelevant topics....too concern about getting their pay check and bonuses. But more importantly there is a lack of values.
As an example, I can tell my story when i was told that my position was closed due to financial distress; however 2 weeks after i was invited to leave the company (2013) and was pushed to sign a "release" paper (where i was committed not to sue the company in the future) , HR published my position with almost the same role......if you are planning to be part of Office max - Grand and Toy please think it twice.......

My goal was to be the best I could be, and made every effort to make that happen, with  impressive results..

Senior mgmt changed often, and made lots of changes. Some good, and some not so good, which resulted in loss or successful long term associates and customers.

Co-workers got along well, and together we made the job fun by challenging each other.  Results were overwhelming. 

The most enjoyable part of the job was the long lasting friendships that I made with the customers.  Some had moved on to new positions with another company and called me to continue our business relationship with their new company.

In 2014, Grand & Toy conducted a survey of key stakeholders in order to establish which sustainability issues were most important to them. Each respondent was asked to pick five aspects they considered to be the most relevant. 
We received over 600 responses from our associates, customers and vendors. Based on this feedback, we were able to identify our top corporate citizenship priorities.

Working at Office depot was a fun experience, I got along really well with my co-workers and was pretty stress free. 

The managers treated us with respect and as if they were one of us. 

The worst part about this job was that the store was set to close soon after I was hired. 

An average day for me consisted of counting my till to make sure the float was correct, then preparing the cash area, I would spend the remaining time in my shift either walking the floor or assisting in carry outs.

At office depot i only been working there for 7 months and worked as customer service and helped out with with copy center. It was a very poorly store barly customers so had to find extra task to be busy.My brother worked at office depot for 3 years and wish friends so the co-worker, Store manager was sexiest to another co-worker that it had to be solved throught human resourse. currently there is no office depot they have sut it down because of the lack of customers.

30 plus years with Grand and Toy, it was a great training ground for sales as well as Management and Branch manager duties. They have had many changes over the years, however they are struggling to find a solid path and competitive offering. The staff were great to work with especially considering the weak and or struggling culture. I enjoyed coaching and developing the staff to ensure they have success in their careers, as well as add value to the organization.

Daily work with a World CIass customer service team, teaching them to effective assist internal and external customers with problem solving and trouble shooting many different issues.   Daily our team was faced with meeting a 24 hour turn around time no matter the obstacles we were faced with, whether it was system issues or shortage of people.  However we always pulled together to meet our daily goal.
