At first I was really excited to work here. All of the staff were friendly and more than happy to let a new person in. Everyone was honestly so welcoming and nice. After you get through the nice phase of everything and thinking how great the company is you learn that everything that HR talked about wasn't so true. It is really hard to advance to a new position, the hours are really long with few pay offs, the pay is not at all where it should be, and there was no communication. No one listens to what you have to say if you aren't an executive because your opinion doesn't matter. If you want a new position you better be best friends with HR, or they'll hire someone else. 

The perks are that your co-workers do become family and there are friendships that will last a life time. When you get the opportunity there are small chances to go to events, hockey and concerts. Those benefits though DO NOT compensate for the amount of time you put into the company. 

If you are young and like to work lots, do it and have a backup plan. If you are looking to actually have a career with advancements, I'd look somewhere else. After leaving the company you really see what it is about, don't drink the kool-aid.

My biggest complaint is the hard work some put in and then get ignored or forgotten about. I find the younger aged employee's (not all), do not follow uniform protocol, they whine, complain about where they are posted  etc and they still get best shifts, more shifts, off early better postings. Management seems to ignore emails and requests and favors some over others. Doesn't seem like there is any possibility to move up from this position at all even though they tell you that when they hire you. Supervisors (some) tell you what to do then do the opposite. They do not "have your back"  when you try to deal with a guest who is breaking rules. However, there is lots of friendly staff, staff meals have changed for better, but now very repetitive so is getting boring already. No discounts at stores or food vendor's (except good food pricing in staff room). No team players from one department to the other. Food and Bev, security and Guest Experience should be working together and they don't!

The problem with OEG, is the upper management always stresses work/life balance, but that is not carried out to the employees. Expect to work 20-30 hours of unpaid overtime during the season, with no opportunity for days off in lieu. Management would regularly advise you that your job could not be done during work hours alone, and that staying after hours to do everyday tasks was a necessity. The culture on the surface, is definitely a fun environment. Being a part of a sports organization does come with its perks. But there are definitely certain departments that will actively tell you not to participate in some of the companies positive culture aspects. Overall, working for OEG can be fun, but you will be underpaid and undervalued, and the reasoning you will receive is "you work in sports". Fear is often used as a "Motivator" to make employees comply to working in those conditions.

The company lacks leadership in general from upper management and senior executives. There is no communication and no support. Salaries and benefits are not competitive. Atmosphere is like walking on egg shells due to the fear of being Layed Off at any moment. It seems that when the Oilers don’t succeed during the season, they make major cuts to save a dime.

The HR Department is not accommodating and understanding to certain issues IE Mental health. If something happens, they make you feel like it’s a major inconvenience and that it’s unacceptable. 

One good thing about working for this company was the work life balance. It was easy to accomodate appointments and work from home if need be. 

The perks are not what they are cracked up too be. Tickets to concerts are provided to upper management as incentives but most use them on their personal friends.

I highly do no recommend working for OEG if you desire job security and room for advancement.

It's a pretty chill atmosphere. you're hands on with lots of guests and guests rely on you to know almost everything in the building like where every single water fountain. it doesn't take too long to have it all down. Everyone is really friendly there and management is very good at picking the right people. The main thing they are looking for is how nice you are and manners. The hardest part of the job that i found was working double show days, because those were 12 hour days and it's a lot of standing.  The most enjoyable parts of the job are seeing all the fans and having conversations with them and seeing hockey players and various acts up close.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The only benefit that was a good one was occasionally you would get tickets to a game or concert, outside of that it’s a very toxic environment. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
No time off, because of lack of support. Work life balance is not a thing for anyone outside of upper management. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Watch your back, and don’t ever so no.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Long stressful and dramatic, to many people playing games and not really focusing on the end goal. Team work is preached but never committed to.

So much potential, but a company that has grown to fast with no real leadership or direction.  New hires are not set up for success, poor communication from management to staff, too many department "silos", poor pay, long hours, lack of feedback are some of the cons. If you are young and just starting your career, this is an exciting place to work.  However, if you want to grow professionally, enjoy a work life balance and want to paid a competitive wage, this is not the place for you.  I thought this was my dream job, but the honeymoon phase wore off quickly.  OEG has alot of room for improvement and until that happens, I would not recommend them.

Rarely any form of advancement unless you're around for a couple years 
Shifts are not to long, average is 6 hours for event days

Management is easy to work with\contact with and they do try to assist when possible

Sometimes there is events for staff and a once a year bonus if you hit numbers

You get to see alot of stuff you normally wouldn't, such as concerts and hockey
Events can be stressful occasionally as sometimes you're alone for a bit with hundreds of people that rarely listen, overall it's a fun place but could be improved 

Work life balance is sad, it’s downtown so you can’t afford to park and it pays perfectly medium for security but no consistent hours so your broke most of the time. A few friendly characters but watch for snipes and jabs. I can seriously respect two managers for being great. You must be young to be capable of the work but also act like your 40, understandable but unattractive to me. Can’t reflect on policy because I never saw one, which says plenty about working there. The once young investor that built it all could not afford his white mustang or insurance working at his own company.

Honestly this place had the hype at the start as it seems like a great place to work being an NHL team. The peers on my level were outstanding! Other departments were super easy to get along with and always smiled!  It quickly changed to the worst place. Stressful, poor leadership, no accountability and zero concern for safety. If you’re Someone who is safety driven don’t even bother. The workload from above trickles to the bottom and the expectation from you becomes larger. Supervisors really don’t fit the bill here!
