Olympia Sports Camp

My day started at 7 am every morning throughout the business week and we were given two days off during the weekend to gather supplies and necessary items from the town just outside of the camp property called Huntsville. Campers and staff have three meals in the day and one snack at night, each camper is under one sports program and two activities which are completed between sports sessions (eg. rock wall, swimming, basketball and many other fun activities. My role at the camp as a counselor was to manage one sports program and work on one activity and in my case i was trained and certified in the ropes department which included zip-lines, ropes obstacles, and others which all required two week training to be able to take part and safely carry out all of the activities. The hardest part of my job was towards the end of the summer when i was feeling fatigued from all the hard long 15- 16 hour days and i was having trouble with maintaining a high level of energy for my campers as i was so exhausted. When i realized this was a problem for me i made some changes in my sleeping schedule which completely improved my energy levels and i was able to finish my summer off with a bang. The camp truly had so much to offer so to say i had a overall favorite part would be untrue because i enjoyed every aspect of what i was doing and i really found myself to thrive in the new working environment.

At Olympia you get the chance to inspire youths and change lives every day. 
Wake up at 7:15 to get your campers to breakfast (you get used to this time quite quickly). 
Participate in three 2 hour sport sessions a day, help children and teens improve in their given sport.
Participate in cabin bonding activities. 
It is impossible to describe working here in words, it does not sound appealing through my description, however working here was the most rewarding and heartwarming experience of my entire life. Pay is minimal but the experience is worth more than any amount of capital in the world. The friendships you form here as well as the work ethics you learn are invaluable.

Amazing for working with children and meeting new people. Every day is full of new challenges  but if you are passionate about working with children, enjoy sports, and are open to stepping out of your comfort zone, then Olympia is an amazing place and would recommend for anyone who does not have an issue with low salary (for a counsellor position at least).

Received extensive training during staff orientation with coaches, Unit Leaders and Directors. 
Tried a different sport every week and had cabins ages from 8-17 year olds.
Responsible for coming up with new activities everyday for the children.
Often helped other staff with their duties and cabins.
During searches lifeguard would dive into the lake and try to find the missing child.

Decent work place, staff was nice enough
Dynamics between councillors can be strange at times 
Communication can be difficult, upper management often will ignore messages for days on end or not do their job properly at all
The pay does not equate to the work that is being done, it is too minimal for an almost 20 hour day 
Upper management needs to be taught how to be more professional and objective

Amazing place to work. Great connections and place to network. Not great pay but its the sacrifice you make for a special experience. There is a gym on site and the food is pretty decent. Salad bar option everyday and vegan, gluten free, and halal options which is a great feature. Would love to work for OSC full time!

Olympia is a great place to work, you learn so much about yourself, others and children you work with. You develop life long skills and friends. The days are really long, but if you love working with kids, youll never hate a day in your life

Wonderful and loving environment to work at, the kids were always so friendly and wanted to be more interactive as the weeks would go by.

The environment is high energy and offers a lot in terms of increasing quality of life and having a positive impact on others. Olympia sports camp feels like a home away from home and its because of the extremely friendly and positive staff.

My experience in working for Olympia Sports Camp is that its one of the best experiences you can have when your young to venture off to a different area and live there for work.
