Once Upon a Child

I wish I can say I loved this job as I would have loved it if it wasn't for management and staff.
There was no regard to putting customers first and I was often made to pick up the phone only to be told I didn't stick to the script or I was doing it incorrectly, with no regard to what the person on the phone was asking.
I was told not to leave my post even when customers asked for help. Understandable if it was busy and there were other employees I could direct the person to, but this was never the case. 
My last paycheck was also withheld and I was made to go in person to pick cash up from the manager as they didn't want to go thru the trouble of doing the direct deposit.  It would have been atleast 1 or 2 shifts worth. I never ended up picking it up.
The other employees seemed miserable. I felt untrusted by the management and keyholders and like they didn't want me there.

Working here made me think i hated retail. I went on to be a manager at a different children's retail clothing store and really loved the job, upper management and employees, it is just a bit boring.

A typical day at work involves me starting on a particular job (i.e. tagging and/or cash) and eventually progresses to additional tasks throughout the day (i.e. running clothes onto sales floor, cleaning, etc.). I have learned additional customer service experience that adhere's to this company's standards and requirements. All co-workers, including management are very approachable and personable, something that I find makes a better working environments. The hardest part of the job is  maintaining the appearance of the sales, only because the store is quite busy, so at times I will be providing customer service for longer; however, I will do my best to keep the floor looking good whenever I can. The most enjoyable part of the job is interacting with people, whether it be co-workers or customers, I enjoy talking to people.

Working at OUAC has been a wonderful experience thus far, the staff are all so friendly and personable and the managers/owner go above and beyond for their employees. The work is fast paced and can be stressful at times, but with great management and coworkers it’s fairly easy to work through. Everyone is very supportive. The customers are friendly and the pay is decent.  You are eligible for benefits as a full time employee following 1 year of employment with the company. The best part is how flexible the scheduling is wether you’re a student, parent or whatever the circumstances, the management does their absolute best to accommodate your needs!

Job was incredibly busy. We were chronically under-staffed and every shift things were left undone and thrown onto the next day. They train you for close with the promise of a raise that will never come. You'll be asked to do things after you tell them you can't for safety reasons. Owners want to be totally involved but are never around to see the store falling apart and filthy but only hire 15 year Olds they can boss around and be cruel to. Training is all over the place. You can be there for weeks with less training than someone who was hired 3 days ago. Blatant favoritism among staff.

If you like working fast and completing multiple goals per shift, rather than just standing still and being board, then you’ll love Once Upon A Child. I can understand how it can be overwhelming for some and it really does take self motivated, dedicated people to work successfully in this business. Once Upon A Child is harder and busier than regular retail stores because it deals with multiple aspects of retail, buying & selling. Personally i’ve found a lot of success and reward from this business and would recommend it to anyone who feels like a slow & steady work environment is too boring for them.

The lack of management, dealing with the owners incompetence ontop of the mean girl energy you get from working with late teen/early twenties girls

Stressful and cliquey, overall this job will break your sprite 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Get to work, do more then half of the coworkers here, bottom line our offers then deal with angry customers trying to sell to us because we both know that they’re getting ripped off

They are warm and very welcoming for the first month, then they want to troll, your social media, conjure up something to hold bias  so make sure your squeaky clean mom of the year. You will be shown how to do something several different ways to produce the same result. Your hours will not cover you cost in gas to get to the workplace.  
 Selective unforgiving management that needs to speak to each employee in the same way. Beware of back stabbing, cold shoulders. The wage was beyond words for the work load and stress of poor training. You receive the results that match your pay grade. Steer clear. You will be set up to fail. 




i worked here for 3 months as a part time. First of all very welcoming and nice. But once i reached the 3 month period, they never formally “laid me off or fired me” which is very unprofessional. they first blocked me off the app where you get your hours. didn’t respond to any of my texts. and never formally told me if i wasn’t working or not.  And once i finally got a hold of them they didn’t understand what was wrong. reminder they are probably better now because they were just starting up when i was working there.  and i was younger then all of the workers. which made it a bit of a competition when it came to who’s still the shop and who’s not.  

Working at OUAC was always fun because everyday was different. It was amazing being able to see the regulars and having them know you by name (even though we wore name tags) and being able to help them out to the best of your ability to make sure their experience with OUAC was a good one and they wanted to come back. One of the hardest parts of the job was not being able to help someone find what they needed because we either didint have the item in stock or we just didn't carry the item they were searching for and the most enjoyable was getting to see all the smiles on the kids faces when they checked out!

Awful place to work.
Low pay, no benefits, abusive management, they encourage you to lie to customers about how much they get for their stuff, they have shady practices like launching promos (spend $100 today and get a $20 gift card) and we are instructed to tell customers about this great deal but NOT the terms & conditions. The moment they purchase the $100, they get told they can't use the $20 until next year and within a very specific time frame. You are constantly treated poorly by customers which are rightfully unhappy about their shady business and it just makes for a horrible and toxic work environment.
