Like many of the reviews on here I can relate to many of the experiences others have had. During the interview they tell you what you want to hear to reel you in & butter you up. I should’ve seen the red flags from the interview to when I started and throughout. Most toxic, awful place I’ve ever worked in my life. Training is inconsistent, unorganized and lacking greatly. Management is unresponsive, unprofessional, unreachable when you contact and don’t have the decency to discuss with you concerns or support when requested. The scheduler on more than one occasion messed up the schedule leaving me short for hours and then forced to use vacation time to cover due to their error. Coaches are expected to train while still carrying out their regular duties causing for constant interruptions to employees on-boarding/training. Training is done remotely now with coaches not even from the same town or city so isn’t ideal for learning & hands on. They are obsessed with having meetings about nothing most of the time where it’s a continuation of the previous meeting not having any further information about issues/topics that then cause employees to fall behind in work from this time. Very high workload for the pay. Job description and what you actually do are not mirrored. Some of the people were very nice & willing to help, others you have to watch your back. A lot of snarkiness, very clique. Overall was a terrible experience without the promised training & support. Union reports having many issues with the employer such as improper & adequate training, lack of communication & support, high turnover without just cause etc. I don’t recommend working here at all. Highly understaffed and I can understand why now, patients feel unheard & passed around with the constant staffing turnover.

Problem solving, negotiation skills constantly used to meet client needs.  Management encourages creativity in problem solving and promotes voluntary participation in projects to review and improve on current processes and procedures. 

I have had several different managers at CCAC with their unique management style but the consistent  message was to provide excellent client care with available resources.   Client rights , dignity and privacy are paramount to ensuring a trusting, respectful relationship.

Typical day requires interaction with clients, their families, community agencies to help promote client independence and safety in the community/ home.

The most enjoyable part of the job is working with the clients, their families and within a multidisciplinary team.

The hardest part of the job is being at a computer 8 hours per day.  

One of the lessons i learned is that personal support workers are critical to enabling clients to remain in their homes.   The relationships that develop with the clients and their families brings dignity, friendship and hope to those in need.   

For clients that do not have any supports, the PSW becomes their family.  Clients ask for the PSW by name and constantly remark how their support makes "life worth living again".   

It would be a great honour to train and mentor this invaluable link in the health care system.    As a PSW support supervisor I would refer to the PSW's as the  "angels on earth" .

A typical day at CW CCAC was fast-paced, busy and rewarding; there was frequent demand and support required by a team of 40 people in performing their work; attending clients' concerns and problems; and multiple managment meetings and performance reports.
Co-workers were equally busy supporting their teams and with attending internal/external meetings.
The hardest part of the job for me was taking time off for my breaks; I was always in the habit of working through my breaks to complete all tasks correctly, timely and with great attention to details.
The most enjoyable part was the positive interpersonal relationship which I quickly developed with my team within a very short period of working with them - this fostered a trusting and productive outcome that benefited the organization, clients and all team members; which also was manifested in the teams' ability to improve client service authorization time and reduce referral wait time by 80% for new clients. The positive working relationship also helped reduce the impact of the organizational budget constraints on the staff in terms of alleviating the consequantial workload issues, as team adapted and learned to work collaboratively and in partnership towards a common goal - supporting and providing needed services to the clients in a timely manner.

Training was incredible! They were very detail oriented and made sure you understood the system. However, once you are assigned a caseload, that’s when the job became stressful! You are bombarded with patients; most caseloads are heavy. It was difficult to handle families who are entitled and the system only allows for so many services, so it’s a fight with families with limited resources. The providers (especially PSW) don’t have enough workers so their service is subpar... so most of the time you have disgruntled families and patients who are unhappy with the system and you can’t do anything about it except say hire privately. Management is a whole different story... some managers are amazing while others take a back seat and do not advocate or have the care coordinator’s back if something goes awry. They have very high expectation of care coordinators, in terms of number of visits per month which makes the job even more stressful. With the ever changing health care system and aging population with so many comorbidities... it’s an intense job that keeps you on your toes!

Workload is way too high which puts not only patients at risk but also employee's professional licenses. Post-pandemic, more and more responsibilities are added on to the employees with complete lack of acknowledgement of the changed landscape of patients and the healthcare system (patients are sicker than ever and there is no help and nowhere for them to go yet care coordinators are constantly reminded that anyone on your caseload is your responsibility). Manager to employee ratio is absurd given the need to consult managers regarding crisis situations. Coworkers are fantastic and only thing that keeps people working there. 

I worked the Extended Hours at a hospital.  The work is interesting and diverse but not overly difficult. The processes are slow and cumbersome and it gets disheartening when a client doesn’t qualify for care, yet he’s had 4 professionals assess him. People’s health is dynamic and the extremely cumbersome method of assessing clients and their needs, is not responsive to these changes. In a nutshell, $10,000 is spent to save $100 - if that makes sense. Hopefully the LHINs are less rigid and process oriented so as to allow change and growth and innovation in order to provide the best care for the clients in need.  The extended hours are a continental type shift (no nights) which did not suit my life at the time. 

Change, Change And more Change is the motto throughout this organization. People are smart and motivated to making a differences and some really amazing changes to improve the health system happen continually. Work collaboration is impressive and there is enough open minds to keep making those changes. Managers in some areas are stretched a bit thin to really properly support their people, but they seem to make it work. Work-life balance is good. The mandate is pretty challenging, so not the place to hide from the real world. If anyone is looking for that comfy "government job", keep looking, but the rewards of being able to make a difference are worth the effort!

Understaffed…severely.   Staff talking about how they’re all looking for new jobs. Co-workers have to beg each other online for help as managers are too busy to get involved. Training is terrible. Even the trainers get pulled off of training new staff to cover for others due to staffing issues. Newbies are often put as “floats” which means you cover for whoever is off, but aren’t trained in each persons job yet, recipe for disaster & stress.
Only perk is eventually you get to work from home most days, but takes a couple of months to feel confident working without help nearby. Horribly run for a govt agency.  Staff turnover is brutal

Despite some amazing leadership, there is too many managers/directors etc who destroy the work environment and any ability to work in teams.  Some significant dishonesty and control issues in management without any oversight or correction. 

Unrealistic workload, overtime not an option without approval, and is seldom approved when needed. Amount of work completed is more important than the quality of work, client satisfaction and good customer service. 

Unionized work environment unsupportive to members and does not address issues.

The organization is in constant chaos. We hear through the grapevine that big changes are coming and management denies it until a memo is sent out literally a couple of days before the change. I am not talking small changes but a complete change in job description and location for over 30 staff. Best part is the change was not properly evaluated and carried out before it occurred so after year they found the change was a bad idea and now they are trying to reverse the whole thing. It makes no sense. 

Pro is that the job is secure so you will always have a job with steady pay - just what you do might be different than what you were hired for and also very little room for advancement.
