Ontario Ministry

The Ontario Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change allowed me to work with environmental professionals who allocated most of their time and work to the management of stormwater in municipalities across Ontario. I assisted with research and information analysis, which helped me explore domestic and international environmental policies in depth. 
The workplace was extremely friendly and it offered many opportunities to learn about other specific areas of environmental policy, management, and geographic systems. 
As leader of a project for my summer term with the MOECC, the hardest part of the job was reaching out to external stakeholders and successfully bringing them onboard. 
The most enjoyable part of the job was taking day trips to visit waste management and stormwater management businesses. 
Also, successfully putting together a project proposal by the end of my summer contract had to be the most rewarding aspect of the job.

Typically I would handle water samples from throughout Ontario and some surrounding areas. The sampling was fairly basic, but at the time I was just starting out in science and this was a good introduction to the work place environment of a laboratory.

I managed to increase throughput of sampling including one line by 200%.

The employees and management were very friendly, and weekly hockey / baseball / curling games were fairly normal.

The job exposes you to a variety of different types of abatement work. Interesting jobs arise requiring proactive initiative to learn about the processes involved with the situation. The people in the office are great, and you are trusted to keep involved and up-to-date on your work.

Great leadership, dynamic teams, not at all what you would expect of a government job. Definitely a great place to start in the government. I would suggest having had previous experience in industry beforehand and preferrably a good understanding of Ontario's sectors.

The Ministry of Infrastructure is a great place to begin a career and make contacts for the step to your next position. Growing areas don't have much room for advancement internally but do give opportunities for a broad scope of practice.

I liked working at the ministry of environment and climate change as the work culture and people working there were so collaborative. As a student I was invited to the general meetings and so.

Science focused organization who hold their work to very high standards. Typically staff serve in the Ministry for their full career. Not a fast pace environment so do not expect quick career mobility if that is your desire.

I gained lots of valuable work experience while working for the Ministry of Environment and was recognized for my hard work by management. I would recommend the Ministry of Environment as an employer.

Great organization! Management is awesome. 
Management really wants you to succeed in your role, and there is never a typical day on the job!
The only downside is that budget is a restriction.
