Ontario Pioneer Camp

Loved every moment of it. i babysat from 8 in the morning to 6 pm everyday with typically 2 or less kids. The day starterd off with parents dropping the kids off at breakfast then the kids had a bible story and then crafts then snack then swimtime. and after that was lunch and the rest of the day to play and have fun with the kids until the parents came back from work for the day. I learned more importnat skills for taking care of kids. every week i would have a different boss, who would make sure every babysitter was doing his or her job. the job was fairly easy except for tempertantrums at some occasions. the most enjoyable part for me was getting to see the smiles on the childrens faces when they are having fun, or when they fall asleep in your arms.

A busy day starting early with morning dip for campers and leaders, followed by breakfast and the activities of the day. Your day is long and you sleep with your campers ensuring their safety.
The team are very supportive and the directors at camp keep in close contact to support you as needed.
The hardest part of the job is the long hours and minimal sleep if you have and upset camper.
The best part of the job is the closeness you have to your campers and the other leaders.
Unfortunately the pay is only an honorarium.

OPC (Ontario pioneer camp)  is a great place. It stole my heart. Every week we would get a new bunch of kids. There are 4 different sections of the camp. There is Boys camp (ages13-17), Girls camp (ages 13-17),  252 which is a place for young adult who are to old to be in one of the camps but to young to go into the LIT camp which is Leaders In Training and then there's Adventure Camp which is for the little ones.

Depending on the section you work in it could go from fast paced to slow paced, but is never too stressful. It is a christian camp which focuses on God and helps create a good relationship with him. The hardest part was trying to control kids who weren't easy to control/ uncontrollable. The most enjoyable part was leaving an impact on the kids and teaching the about God.

Wake up, get the kids to breakfast, bible study/worship, morning activities, lunch, afternoon activities, dinner, more games, sleep time. The culture at work is very positive and supportive. The hardest part is dealing with campers who don't listen or get along with other campers. The best part is spending time with the kids and getting to know them.

I've been attending Ontario Pioneer Camp as a camper for seven years but babysat for a month during 2016. 
OPC is an amazing environment with loving staff and an amazing location, sunny Port Sydney Muskoka. 
The kids were amazing and I made amazing friends.
An amazing life changing experience overall!

For a young person's perspective, it was a wonderful place to work. But retrospective as an adult, this organization has many pitfalls. It does not provide adequate training for staff, standards are lax, and it does not build on individual potential.

A typical day at work involves waking up at 6am for morning meeting, taking care of children, running activities, and teaching campers about God and how he created this beautiful planet.

Its a summer job and also an christian community ministry. Its not for everyone. Its a great place to nurture your faith in Christ and be more in leadership role to grow out your character.

Great place for summer students to grow in their own social skills and leadership skills.

Pay makes it hard to do this unless you're a person with summers off (like teachers) or students who have financial means to sacrifice a summer of employment opportunities.
