Ontario Place

A typical day at work could start as early as 6 and last until midnight depending on what was scheduled for the day. You learn a lot about time management and working as a team player. Learning different skills taught by trained professionals. Management expects a lot out of there employees and would fairly compensate employees who worked hard. The hardest part of the job was the unpredictability of daily events. Certain corporate events were very demanding along with public events such as Caribana and Canada Day. However with everything going on it was a great place to work, meeting new friends , working outdoors attending once and a lifetime events and being able to participate in reward programs made everything worth it.

Typical day work involves me going to the storage room filling and organizing the refrigerator cart with frozen desert goods and organizing them to my liking/what I'm comfortable with.

I learn how to handle cash, how to serve frozen goods to customers, and how to exchange customer satisfaction.

With the co-workers in Ontario Place they share different interest so there are some that I don't really socialize with, but there are some that I do and we get along well with each other.

The hardest part of the job is the long standing hours with very few breaks.  Shifts range from 5 to 10 hrs with 1 break for 5 hrs and 2 breaks for 10 hrs each break about an hour.

The most enjoyable part of the job is dealing with happy customers who are cooperative.

•	Supervised a staff of forty retail personnel dispersed throughout the theme park, duties included customer complaint resolution and employee scheduling and training 
•	Accountable for all major aspects of retail operations including financial reconciliation and equipment operation of over $50,000 each day 
•	Also supervised the Warehouse division which was responsible for the replenishment and deployment of retail goods to the sales locations. This responsibility included performing physical inventory counts and planning and deployment of goods.

I worked in a food service kiosk where I prepared food and served customers. I used the cash register and cleaned my area to health standards. I worked outside in different weather conditions. I covered breaks and balanced the cash at the end of the day. I worked independently and as a team. I really enjoyed working with my co-workers and the management was nice. In fact, I was hired back for the summer of 2012 but then Ontario Place was closed. I learned to multitask and prioritize.

Everyone working at this company was cheerful and very welcoming. Everyone did their own duties and did not rely on any one else to help them. All workers were understandable, relatable, nice, responsible, respectful and well organized. Working with a number of different students and other full time members, have greatly helped me improve my interpersonal and intra-personal skills.

The hours were terribly long and the pay was poor. A typical shift was at least 8 hours, but I had to commute in for an hour so it felt like I never had a life. Most of the managers would not grant days off even if you had a legitimate excuse. We were not allowed to sit down, which was a problem for me as I had a bad tendonitis flare-up that summer. One of my co-workers sexually harassed all the women in our section and the management wouldn't do anything about it because they were so short-staffed.

I spent most of my days outside managing 15-20 employees on maintaining cleanliness throughout the 94 acre amusement park. I was an integral part of a team who created and executed the parks first Waste Diversion Plan. During my tenure at Ontario Place I learned how to use a mechanical compost, Fork-lift, John Deere Tractor, John Deere Gator, JCB Excavator, Lawn equipment and power tools.

8-10 hour shifts working outside near with water with boats and a diverse range of customers.
Learned retail skills and customer service.
Understanding and helpful management.
Other student employees from around the province.
Hardest part of the job was long hours in the sun doing heavy work with gas and sewage hoses on boats.
Favourite part was interacting with the customers.
