Good pay and benefits. Working with most people was good however some managers you had to watch your back. Working most of my career on the frontline was very rewarding. I would call myself a real police officer and not some out of touch manager who has no idea about real police work. Some people that started to get promoted were good people at the constable level but as they went up in rank they changed and became real jerks. I call this the constable to God syndrome. One example is someone I know got promoted, transferred and constantly refered to his platoon members as my children. However working with most people was good and some managers were also good. The biggest problem with this organization is and trying to put it in the right context is you go out and do your calls and somebody complains and they will go after you even when you have done nothing wrong. The image is more important than what is right and any officer reading this knows exactly what I mean. Overall it's a great job because you meet so many different people over your career and experience things that others will never have. When you retire you have a pension and benefits for life which others don't have. 

As a front line officer, no two days are alike.  
You can go from a long, boring, quiet shift, to half an hour, or longer, of pure terror!  You meet all kinds of people under a wide variety of circumstances.  Sometimes they're glad to see you, other times not so much.  Sometimes your shift ends with you feeling immense job satisfaction, other times you wish you could have done more.  Sometimes, especially during winter blizzards, your 12 hour shift turns into 15, 16 hours.  Then you get to go home and shovel your own driveway.   

In securing the area of work, either at the detachment or at the court house, all involved are working within, to create a safe environment. From arriving to the location, making sure all information is passed along to all individuals involved, that the equipment is working properly and that a calm atmosphere is present, the job offers a great deal of camaraderie, professionalism and security. You must always be ready for the surprises such as an ailing or mentally handicapped prisoner, or one that could easily harm themselves or others. Keeping up-to-date with procedures, culture requirements, duties and preparedness, all workers can rely on a consistent work day.

Arriving on time, obtaining the necessary paper work for each prisoner; recording and physically observing each person every 15 minutes; until signing off at end of shift.
I have learned a lot about human nature from their up bringing, culture, religion and  different environments.
Management and co-workers have always been compassionate, caring, understanding and helpful with prisoners and other employees.
The hardest part of the job is when the young offenders are arrested and brought to the holding cells.
The most enjoyable part of the job is interacting with most of the prisoners and with the staff.

Fast-faced, blood-pumping one minute, then watching paint dry the next. You must be prepared at any moment to be dealing with a crisis, and to be on your A game.
I worked with fabulous could-workers some of whom will be lifelong friends. I say the same of most of the management. Everyone pitched in at the end of the day to get the job done.
Hardest part of the job was the twelve hour rotations. With four kids it took a toll.
The most enjoyable part was the comraderie when things were hectic, as well as the sense of accomplishment when things worked out in the end.

- Maintained the boat (Seaswirl Striper)
- Gathered equipment for the day (tickets, life jackets, keys for the boat)
- Trailered the boat
- Assisted police officers with report writing, note taking, arrests, stopping vessels and vehicles, promoting safe boating practices, and enforcement of various legislation including Highway Traffic Act, Small Vessels Regulations, Criminal Code, Liquor License Act, Canada Shipping Act, and Contraventions Act

I love my  job with the O.P.P. however, I am a contract worker and am not guaranteed any particular amount of hours. I work with great people, I have developed a great rapport with many of the prisoners that I guard. The hardest part of my job is watching people make mistakes that affect both them and their families for years to come. Many of them are unable to break free of the system and the revolving door of prison. The most enjoyable part of my job is that no day is uniform. Each day presents a new situation with new challenges. I learn a lot and I see a lot.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The majority of the people are amazing. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The fact that one department says go ahead and the other holds it up. Communication from the top is poor. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Depends which detachment you’re at. Mostly good. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
12 hour shifts are long but go by fast. Your coworkers are your family and have your back.

This was such a rewarding area to work, and the professionalism of such an organization was such a delight and benefit.

It was a wonderfully paced position, my superiors were always  wonderful mentors to explain certain areas of questions.

The hardest part of this job was that my contract ended and there were no other jobs available.

This was and is my overall favorite position I had and am so grateful for the wonderful opportunity it provided me.
